BREAKING NEWS: Obama Accepts Bush Invitation To Meet In Washington

With extraordinary stakes on the line, President Bush has invited both presidential candidates and the leaders of the House and Senate to the White House on Thursday in hopes of securing a bill to rescue the economy.

Bush took the unusual step Wednesday night of calling Democratic Sen. Barack Obama directly to invite him to the meeting, White House press secretary Dana Perino said. An Obama spokesman said the senator would attend. The White House has also invited Republican Sen. John McCain.

Perino said the goal of the session is to make progress -- fast -- on a bipartisan solution to the biggest economic crisis in decades.

She said the call between Bush and Obama lasted several minutes and was "a good conversation."

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the Democratic presidential contender "will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution."

The move by Bush came just a short time before he was to address the nation about the financial crisis.

No! Obambi didn't have to accept. He realized not showing up would make him look weak and impotent. He is and he's definitely not a leader. Bush called him, not the other way around!

Obama showed he hasn’t a care or clue as to how bi-partisan legislation is accomplished. He’s too lazy to work at his job. Let’s hope John McCain eviscerates the Paulson demands while putting together a bi-partisan piece of legislation with a much smaller lending footprint. If the Congress would suspend the capital gains and business taxes for two years, the cirsis would suddenly disappear, without printing/devaluing taxpayer’s money, and I would bet the cost would be far below $700 billion to the fed deficits. Combine that with an all-out Moonshot style energy plan and America becomes stronger, not weaker as this corporate raiding of tax coffers will do.

Has Obama ever met President Bush? He’s only been on the floor of the Senate 143 times, and then he isn’t know for doing anything.

McCain sets Obama up by asking him to suspend and no debate

Obama refuses and carries on campaigning, ignores the situation.

Knowing he would refuse, McCain asks Bush to make Obama come to Washington now he’s refused

Bush phones Obama and tells him to shift his ass and get down here

Obama cannot refuse what is in effect an order from the WH and has to accept or look even stupider

Obama will have to sit in a room one on one with Bush and McCain and talk economics.

This ought to be fun, how does Obama stand out in all this, he’ll be railroaded.

In a new development concerning Obama’s visit to the White House Sen. O, as he is known to his flock, requested to have his picture taken behind the Presidential Seal.

He also siad that he will need to have his teleprompter present in order for him to consult with it for answers, or he will need his magic eight ball.

You mean before or after all the new Obama ads showing him in and around the White House looking presidential? Seriously, there is old strategy that holds that a sitting president does not debate a candidate because that raises the candidate up to the president's level. I really do not understand why they want to raise Obama up to look presidential here. You just KNOW the MSM will have wall-to-wall coverage showing Obama at the White House looking very presidential with all the reporters puffing him big time. I don't understand this - at all.

Obama was supposed to spend all day Thursday in debate prep. This blows that. Maybe McCain knows what he’s doing after all.

Bush basically just bailed him out on this issue. Now McCain will not be able to point out that he was the only one who went back to help in the crisis. McCain should ask Bush to just stay out of this election. He is not helping.

This weeks candadates chronology of responses to the financial crisis:

McCain provides his 3 point response to the White House plan.
Obama says “me too” plus one more populist point.

McCain says he’ll suspend his campaign and the debate to meet with the Senate to resolve this pressing matter.
Obama says, “I thought of it first!”

Bush says ‘Could you please come to WDC?’
BO says, “Well OK”.......

Maybe the crisis is so dire that elections aren’t that important right now.

Invitation? He accepted an invitation - to go and do the job for which he was elected?

What nerve!

You’re still a Senator B. Hussein.

Well, he IS A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE...

Even his qualifications for that are in serious doubt.
