I think we have to face the reality that the economic mess is going to stick on the Republicans up and down the ticket.

We need to get that settled down, give the facts a chance to percolate and then change the subject. Else, we will look a lot like France in 4 years.

You can place the blame squarely on the head of the MSM / DBM... IMO, they are the most dangerous entity in this nation.

I agree with you on this one. The reason elections are so close is because of the constant barrage of pro liberal activism in media. We (conservatives) are lucky to get the wins we do get in this atmosphere. The propaganda comes from every direction...schools, magazines, newspapers, TV shows, movies, nightly news, music...all left wing, all the time.

I agree. Voter fraud could make all the difference in this race. I think it will be all about Pennsylvania. McCain's people need to be on the ground in PA from now until the election to stop any “mischief”. (using my Rumsfeld voice lol)

ON PALIN:
i think they are keeping palin out of it for a reason. not sure why. i’m sure they know what they are doing.

is she too green?
are they coaching her and getting her up to speed?
do they not want her to say something they’ll regret?
is she a secret weapon?
do they want to keep the mystique with the public?
do they not want to overexpose her too early?

I’m bitterly clinging to my patriarchal sky god, my boomsticks and my giant unicycle made out of a big round rock, and voting for the old white guy.

Do you think he will suspend elections once he gets in? Is there a risk of him carrying out these plans?

He wouldn't do anything that inflammatory. As a hard core Marxist he will simply gut the elections of any meaning.

The Soviet Union, Cuba, etc, had elections every so often, but of course they were meaningless. This may be the last election in the US that means anything, although the charade will be maintained for appearances' sake, and to forstall violent resistance..

How do you think he'd do that? My guess would be giving lots of power to bureaucrats. Keep the Pres/Congress elections in place but create a super powerful bureaucracy, a fourth branch of the government w/o checks or balances.

What do y’all mean by getting Palin “out there”? She’s already on the campaign trail, she’s done a few interviews... what else should she be doing?

To be clear, communism is a wholly contained subset of totalitarianism. But once a culture goes down the totalitarian road, it makes little difference what brand of koolaid their rulers feed them.

Looking at the red/blue map, reminds of when I make my son a sandwich. He wants the edges cut off because the best stuff is in the inside. If we were to cut off the edges, for the most part, this would be nearly a totally red map.

The propaganda comes from every direction...schools, magazines, newspapers, TV shows, movies, nightly news, music...all left wing, all the time.

It is true, and yet there is one glimmer of hope for the long run: As demonstrated in the old Evil Empire, people sooner or later learn to recognize propaganda and discount it. By the late stages of the USSR nobody paid any attention to the party line, including the party members themselves. The only question is, can we hold on to our freedoms and American values long enough for enough people to wake up to the Big Lie?

I don't want my children to have to learn the hard way, as the captive peoples of the soviet empire did.

Good guess. Imagine a "National Elections Board" established for the Public Good, to screen and approve candidates. We certainly don't want people to be misled by dishonest and subversive anti-social elements running rogue candidates do we. The Board, of course, will be composed of handpicked operatives. We could vote for anyone we wanted as long as s/he was an "approved" option. Like when Henry Ford said "People can have a Model T in any color they want, so long as it is black."

So right on target. i was watching some talking head stuff today just bouncing around trying to get the jest of the day after. several Obamanation supporters were on and they had the same theme “He looked and sounded so good!” Nothing about what he talked about or what his views were. Then it struck most of these guys have a mancrush on him. Very scary and creepy.

Most of your statements are totally correct. Except one, “If the American people knew this, his numbers would be below 30%”. I estimate about 35 to 40% of the American people should just sit at home on election day. They are the percentage of people who are the idiots. They are the ones who begin watching and caring about 6 weeks before an election, if that much time. There are always the 30% who are to the right, and 30 to the left. Leaving the 60% of people who are leaning either way or just don't care. I know many of the 60%. They will almost certainly be the first to bitch and complain about new and higher taxes, new laws or anything pertaining to a newly elected official. But they are the ones who thought voting was a waste of time or just didn't give a damn. This election cycle I believe the right and left percentages are higher. More like 40 to 45%. As Republicans and Conservatives, we need to work on getting the leaners on our side in order to stop the nightmare that is certain to happen if Obama/Biden get into office.
The only person with experience in leading people is Sarah Palin. It's amazing the most qualified is also the one the MSM is spending most of their time crucifying every chance they get.
The members of Free Republic and other like minded websites really need to go out and voice our opinions to help our cause. We certainly can't rely of the media to help us. Everyone of us needs to go out and talk to 3 to 5 people about the situation our country is in and inform them of the ‘real or true’ facts the MSM is not airing.
Thank you for letting me vent. I will now get off the soap box and let someone else use it.

“For the record...I still expect McCain to win 40 -45 states”

Sigh... in our dreams.

I’m a stone-cold realist, about politics as well as other things.

This election is going to be as close as it gets, probably a repeat of 2000.

McCain’s only chance may be eke out a victory in the electoral college, where [of course] things matter. He’s probably going to lose the popular vote. At best he may break 50%, but I don’t see him getting much more.

With the racial factor tossed into the mix, it may be more ugly than in 2000, with not one, but possibly two or three states’ results “contested”.

Regarding the debates, it’s Kennedy vs. Nixon all over again. Style, looks, and delivery vs. substance. And bear in mind that the electoral populace in 1960 was probably better-informed than a large proportion of the voters (particularly the liberal and “waving wheat” undecideds) are _today_, what with the deterioration of the educational system over the last 50 years.

One other thing I’d like to point out. If McCain wins, it will not be because he rallied conservatives, but because he was perceived as “middle of the road” by enough independents and racially-minded democrats to steal those votes from the other side. I daresay that if our candidate had been a “hard-righter”, he wouldn’t have been able to take enough votes from the middle to have won.

I hope I’m proven dead wrong on this. Nothing to do but wait and see.

- John
