Bailout plan failed due to 41% of House DEMs voting against it.
Vanity

Posted on 09/29/2008 12:03:19 PM PDT by CatOwner

We will hear stories about how the House GOP caused this bill to fail. But 34% of House GOP voted for the bailout plan. This "bi-partisan no-vote" was due to the surprising number of House DEMs who voted against the plan.

Pelosi is on tv now saying that she delivered her side! What a crock of pickles. 41% is NOT delivering her side. She is the head of the majority, and could not delvier a majority vote! So what do 41% of dems know that we don’t .

I am confused!!! How can 41% of Democrats vote against this bailout and Nancy Pelosi blames the Republicans for the failure to pass it? Oh, yeah, just more nonsense from the leader of the House.

Listening to Pelosi and her partisan twisted speak. She is a liar and a moron.

Why is it that the position of Speaker is always filled with idiot hacks no matter the Party.

What a joke!

Well that means that 2/3rds of the GOP voted against it as opposed to only a little over 1/3 of the Dems. That argument appears ludicrous on it’s face.

Democrats are Scum. They caused the problem, it’s their bill, and they want Republicans to pass it for them. If they want to give $700 billion to their crooked buddies on Wall Street, let the Democrats do it for themselves. There is no reason Republicans should take the blame for it.

So what the democrats are saying is that the House Republicans were responsible for beating a bill that had the support of only 25% of Americans? Don't throw me down that briar patch!

Yes, but Pelosi didn't need the GOP to pass this bill. And if she had gotten the DEMs to vote 95% for the bailout, added to the GOP voting for it would have produced a veto-proof margin (not that a veto was in question here).

Pelosi is finished, she tried to rail through a plan almost half her party rejected and Obama tried to force through. Some leadership.

I heard that 97 Dems voted against it. Problem is, the ones I heard during the debate that said they were going to vote no were doing so for the wrong reasons. They did not like the bill because it did not have enough giveaways in it.

They wanted extensions for unemployment, relief from credit card debt and automobile loans, etc. etc. etc. In other words, they want to become the nations bank and divey money out the way they see fit.

Is this the Democrats' "chickens coming home to roost?"

In 2006, the Democrats fooled Americans into voting them control of Congress by running "conservatives" against Republicans. Now they're surprised that those "conservative" Democrats are not lining up in lock-step to support Pelosi?

When Pelosi slams the GOP for not passing this bill, she is pinning a big button on their chests which reads, “American Hero”.

Interesting breakdown. We actually have some moonbats like Sheila Jackson Lee voting against it and some good guys like Tom Tancredo voting for it. But since there is only a dozen votes to flip to reverse the outcome, I suspect this is NOT the end of it.

Maybe the 41% is mad because the bill as presently constituted doesn’t directly fund their ACORN brownshirts. With billions of dollars to play with ACORN would have become at least the equivalent of that older organization but with far more resources.

How far to the left can they shift this bill to attract the DEM dissenters on the left before conservative DEMs and some of the GOP vote against it? Regardless, Pelosi is not getting a bipartisan mandate vote out of the House.

Is that the right bill?

The Bill Title reads ‘To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide earnings assistance and tax relief to members of the uniformed services, volunteer firefighters, and Peace Corps volunteers, and for other purposes’

I realize that bill get named to disguise the true intent, but that isn’t even close.

-- Don't you just love the name of this bill. --

H.R.3997 is a "shell," a mere vehicle for the Emergency Economic Recovery Act of 2008. H.R.3997 was promulgated in 2007, and has been kicking around for months, with some version of it being passed by both House and Senate. This vehicle was picked in order to avoid procedural pitfalls that adhere to a "new" bill, such as "objection to a motion to proceed to the consideration" which would otherwise be available in the Senate.
