PHILADELPHIA (AFP) Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday thanked his Republican rival John McCain for urging supporters to be respectful and stop hurling abuse at Obama at his rallies.
"Now, I want to acknowledge that Senator McCain tried to tone down the rhetoric yesterday in his town hall meeting and I appreciate his reminder that we can disagree while still being respectful of each other," Obama said.

Gads, McCain, get a CLUE, will you?? You were a fighter pilot, dammit. McCain was a fighter pilot in the days when you had to get behind someone to shoot him. Air combat, in those days, was all about getting behind your opponent...and that is what John has maneuvered to do - get behind his opponent!

It's concerns that this episode may be laying the groundwork for a future Obama Kristnallacht on conservative 'hate speech'.Which will begin with a new version of a "fairness doctrine".

The media thought it was ok to brand someone who tapped his toes and reportedly engaged in some esoteric “hand gesture” sign language shared among homosexual deviants a “fa**ot” to win the 2006 congressional election.
What happened to respect and toning down the rhetoric?

Angeles Crest Highway, eh? I used to hike along there, and backback into the National Forest from there. Many, many years ago. I imagine it has changed quite a bit since the 1960s when I used to trek there.

“This is war. This is authoritarian socialism vs capitalism and free market economy. This is political correctness vs truth. This is individual freedom vs collective welfare. This war was declared by Obama and his secret(read foreign) backers, who seek revolution and change with no respect to our founding fathers and our precious history. We cannot respond repectfully toward this enemy and expect to win. The mutual respect McCain envisions is a hoax.”
Well said.

Even in the event of a stolen election with millions of dead and duplicate voters casting ballots, it would not be the answer. But a march of millions on the capital (or on the corporate headquarters of the sponsors of the nightly news broadcasts) would be a peaceful protest. Republicans don't "march". A big Republican protest might have 10 people. Street antics are not a part of conservative culture. And the folks who are spreading this "revolution" carp are in the Saul Alinsky - Woodlawn Organization school of manipulation.

I don’t have a problem with people being angry. And I don’t have a problem with pointing out Obama’s leftist past. But it shouldn’t run over, rhetorically, into talk of violence. And I’m talking about a few people in the audience, not McCain.

The revolution talk is a way to keep McCain in line and make him afraid of his own base. It's STUPID. And McCain falling for it - being alienated from his own supporters is crazy. Has McCain ever heard of Tokyo Rose? Has he heard the term "troll". Can he talk to Rush about fake callers and the damage they do? McCain needs to make an effort on some of this stuff.

That's what McCain craves. A pat on the head from his enemies. Now Obama and crew can continue to kick the old RINO senseless without fear of complaint. McCain's self righteous, sanctimony will guide him along the fantasy high road to defeat.

I guess McCain is Okay with the respect shown to Palin as the RATs continue their attempt to assassinate her and her entire family.
