Poll Finds Almost Half of New Jersey Adults Want to Move Out of State
Fox News ^ | 9/14/09 | Sara Bonisteel

Posted on 10/14/2008 6:51:30 AM PDT by gridlock

Even New Jerseyans can't stand living in New Jersey, according to a new poll that said nearly half of adults residing in the Garden State want to pull up stakes.

The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll, released Wednesday, found 49 percent of those polled would rather live somewhere else.

(snip)

Poll participants cited high property taxes (28 percent), the cost of living (19 percent), state taxes (5 percent) and housing costs (6 percent) as the main reasons they want out. The poll also found that 51 percent of those who expressed a desire to leave planned to do so, with adults under the age of 50 making between $50,000 and $100,000 the most likely to flee.

"If you have the ability to leave and you don't see any possibility for change with the way the state is run — and that's the No. 1 issue here — you have to vote with your feet," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.

(snip)

"It's no wonder that New Jersey is a national joke," he said. "We've done it to ourselves with these just positively irresponsible policies."

(snip)

That migration depleted the state's tax coffers of an estimated $10 billion in personal income and $680 million in sales tax, according to the Rutgers report.

"This really illustrates among a lot of other things that the public has thrown up their hands," Murray said. "They don't feel that there's anything they can do that would change the situation."

(snip)

"One can only hope that the pendulum will stop swinging this way and start moving back the other way 'cause if it doesn't, you're going to see 9 million people suffer," he said.

"Or you're going to see the last person over the Delaware turn out the lights."

New Jersey is not going to change. The Republicans that we do have are all whipped, wimpering get-along types who are happy to take to Local to Hell, instead of the Express. When I was a kid, I remember riding in the family car, packed up with all our stuff, past the sign that said "Will The Last Person Out Of Seattle Please Turn Out The Lights". It is about time we put a similar sign up near the Deleware Memorial Bridge.

It is very sad, because New Jersey does not deserve 90% of the bad press it gets. But it does deserve to fail because it continues to elect people who do nothing but raise taxes. Now Corzine wants to give back a couple of bucks in grants so people can use the money to pay their taxes. I know an old lady who swallowed a fly... I think she'll die!

They ruin their own freakin’ state with corrupt liberalism and then spread out like a plague on a map in one of those movies, and then it's goodbye CO, VA, IA, NC, and hello Obamanation.

When I'm King (negotiations are ongoing) anyone who flees a state will lose all voting privileges.

Actually, it won't matter. When I'm King all the liberals are gonna get from me is canteen of water and a half hour head-start.

I was thinking of moving to Texas, but all my friends tell me that it is Hell on Earth, getting down to twenty below zero in the Winter and over a Hundred Forty in the Summer. They say you have cock-a-roaches the size of corgis and that the mosquitos carry away small children.

Can you confirm all this is true? If so, I may have to stay in New Jersey!

This is why Obama is leading in places like North Carolina. So many from NY/NJ have moved there in the last ten years, bringing with them their expectation that govt will give them something while someone else pays for it. Of course this is the very reason they left NY/NJ in the first place. they grew tired of paying for someone else. But now along comes the three headed monster, Obama, Reid ,Pelosi promising all sorts of goodies that only "the rich" will pay for and these ex NYer/NJite say wow let me get mine.

The idea that govt is a giver of free stuff will expand as northeasterners move south and west. My part of America developed the idea of govt as employer of last resort, dispenser of welfare, provider of health care. That's what we've grown up with and as we move these ideas will be coming to a neighborhood near you.

Does that mean those liberals will want to come south? Let’s get ready to man the baricades and put up check points. Look what happened to Colorado when all those Californians moved there. Same thing is happening in Nevada. It’s because of migrating Californians that Seattle is only second to San Francisco as the most liberal city. Can we start a campaign that says “what is in New Jersey, stays in New Jersey”.

New Jersey folks move here to Virginia and North Carolina and turn the “Red” states “Blue”. They bring their ‘liberal culture’ with them when they move. Virginia will now have two liberal Democrat Senators after November. It was not the “Red” state Virginians that made this change, but all the “Blue” northern transplants.

NJ does deserve 100% of the bad press it receives.

I know. I grew up there. And when I was 17, I left the state, never to return. Didn’t apply to any college in NJ, didn’t want to, despite my parent’s wanting me to stay there, couldn’t believe anyone would want to stay in NJ for 10 seconds longer than necessary to relieve themselves there.

Even back then, before I knew anything about politics, economics, social policy, etc, I could see that New Jersey was going to become the socialist armpit of the United States and I wanted out. I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to go to, but I knew exactly where I was going to be from.

As far as I’m concerned, we should close down the military ordnance ranges in the west, restore some perfectly good rangeland, and use NJ for ordnance testing instead. It would improve both the western states and NJ at the same time.

I just hope the Demcorats that leave that state go to another Democrat state. They’ve managed to pollute what were strong Republican states when they move enmasse. Look at Colorado and Nevada out west with all the Commies that move in from the Peoples Republic of Californina that have fled that sinking state. New Hampshire with all the whacks moving from the land of the Kennedys.
