Believers in Obama (Sowell on Obama)
Jewish World Review ^ | October 21, 2008 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 10/20/2008 2:28:46 PM PDT by jazusamo

Telling a friend that the love of his life is a phony and dangerous is not likely to get him to change his mind. But it may cost you a friend.

It is much the same story with true believers in Barack Obama. They have made up their minds and not only don't want to be confused by the facts, they resent being told the facts.

An e-mail from a reader mentioned trying to tell his sister why he was voting against Obama but, when he tried to argue some facts, she cut him short: "You don't like him and I do!" she said. End of discussion.

When one thinks of all the men who have put their lives on the line in battle to defend and preserve this country, it is especially painful to think that there are people living in the safety and comfort of civilian life who cannot be bothered to find out the facts about candidates before voting to put the fate of this nation, and of generations yet to come, in the hands of someone chosen because they like his words or style.

Of the four people running for President and Vice President on the Republican and Democratic tickets, the one we know the least about is the one leading in the polls — Barack Obama.

Some of Senator Obama's most fervent supporters could not tell you what he has actually done on such issues as crime, education, or financial institutions like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, much less what he plans to do to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear nation supplying nuclear weapons to the international terrorist networks that it has supplied with other weapons.

The Obama lovers I have encountered (Both black and white) are starry-eyed lazy people who haven't time to hear the facts.

The very SECOND you raise a question about their "Hero", their eyes glaze over and they turn on you like a snake.

This includes all races and even family members.

What amazes me about this is the similarity to Hitler and scores of other despots who rose to power in history.

They just couldn't see it coming!

'who they believe themselves to be by voting for him'

Well said! It has as much to do with his voters' SELF image than the image 0bama projects! Like someone who would drive a hybrid merely for the statement it seems to make, (even if they produce more unrecyclable trash than a family of 6 did in 1960).

It s

ays: I CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT. Voting for 0bama says: I AM NOT A RACIST. I AM FOR CHANGE. I AM NOT A RACIST. I BELIEVE IN UNITY. I AM NOT RACIST. I BELIEVE IN DIVERSITY. I AM NOT A RACIST. I AM TAKING PART IN A HISTORIC MOMENT. I AM NOT A RACIST.

You’ve pegged the Messiah followers well and the majority are amazed anyone would question their political correctness.

Yep, pretty much their religion and questioning Obama is questioning the best flesh incarnation of their god. (So a touchy subject, as you’re bringing up politics and their religion in one swoop!)

Please forgive me, Dr. Sowell. I was going to write in your name for my presidential vote, but the more I learn about Faux-bama, the more necessary my vote for McCain becomes. Keep up the good work getting the word out!

Incredibly the priest gave a sermon at mass yesterday, on the topic of being informed enough to vote. We shouldn’t, he said base our vote on superficialities, but rather on facts.

It is a disgrace that the majority of blacks in the United States of America are either:
*not aware of the writings of Thomas Sowell
*or are embarrassed to embrace Sowell as a black man.
He is brotherless.

"The presumed irrationality of the public is a pattern running through many, if not most or all, of the great crusades of the anointed in the twentieth century--regardless of the subject matter of the crusade or the field in which it arises. Whether the issue has been 'overpopulation,' Keynesian economics, criminal justice, or natural resource exhaustion, a key assumption has been that the public is so irrational that the superior wisdom of the anointed must be imposed, in order to avert disaster. The anointed do not simply happen to have a disdain for the public. Such disdain is an integral part of their vision, for the central feature of that vision is preemption of the decisions of others."
The Vision of the Annointed

Voting for “change” in this election is like voting out the fire dept and “changing” things by voting in the band of arsonists that the fire fighters were not always successful at stopping. OK, the fire fighters should have done better, but what exactly does anyone think the replacements will do?

You’re correct and I admire him all the more for getting his message out, he hasn’t let it slow him down.

My brother too. He virtualy hung up the phone in anger when I laughed when he told me that he would vote for Obama. The anger was palpable.

My other brother is scared that there may be race riots within months, and will not vote Obama. He also hates McCain. No one I know likes McCain. This is the worst election....... its down right frightening people who understand the stakes.

Telling a friend that the love of his life is a phony and dangerous is not likely to get him to change his mind. But it may cost you a friend.

Approx. 23 years ago I lost my best friend after getting into an argument about our partying/drinking habits while driving home late one night from a bar. He took offense to my comments about us having a drinking problem and we parted ways.......

He's dead now after first losing his house then his small tool and die shop. Jimbo was the life of the party but unfortunately booze, coke and partying got the best of him...............RIP man, I really miss you.

I have damaged 3 close friendships. There are things more important than a friendship, like Liberty.
