The big news of the 2008 election is the GOP moderates, the RINOs have jumped ship and fled to Obama. So much for the Big Tent Republican Party. At the end of the day, its not about the party, its about power and the Washington social party circuit for them. What's ironic is these are the same people who pushed John McCain on the Republican Party, telling the base only he could bring moderates and independents into the party. And what are they doing? Just the opposite - they are abandoning the Republican Party in droves. That's what happens when you have people in the Party whose only interest is their personal ambition, not principle. Conservatism doesn't need to be "moderated" or updated. A timeless set of beliefs will never go out of style. So after the election, the Party has to be rebuilt from the ground up. And one of the things conservatives must do is keep liberals and moderates out of the party. When all is said and done, they don't have our best interests at heart.

Is a RINO someone who believes in limited government in all its forms? That includes telling the social-cons to take their Big Brother agenda and stick it.

Rush kind of has to walk on eggshells with that. After all, he has been banging the drum for those GOP moderate Republicans for years.

IIRC, he was intially on their side for the Dubai ports deal, the Miers nomination, amnesty for illegals, etc.

It was only after the 2006 GOP Congressional massacre that Rush declare he was “no longer carrying the water for the GOP.”

Rush is right on target. This election has at least flushed out the pseudo Republicans. Peggy Noonan and others.

A RINO is a big government liberal who is pro choice, anti gun and and pro same sex marriage. The reason he's a Republican is because he is an elitist liberal who looks down on Democrats as the great unwashed Joe The Plumber crowd. That's the definition of a RINO.

Anyone who could vote for Obama - the most liberal candidate to run for president in my lifetime - can not be considered a "moderate". Such people are either liberals themselves, or else they lack any ideology besides an attraction to power.

I heard Medved today passionately defending those type of Republicans. He contends that no “true conservative” has ever won an election. He further stated that Regan was one of them by virtue of his appointment of James Baker (SoS), and his choice of Bush as VP. I never cared for Medved much.

This isn’t RINO?

In her first policy address since joining the Republican ticket, Sarah Palin called for parents of special needs children to use federal funding to pick the school of their choice...

Palin also called for full federal funding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, phasing in an additional $15 billion in funding over five years. (snip)

And who was screaming this after the 2006 election? ME, and a few other conservatives!

Remember, McCain is one of those moderates, do not forget this. The only ray of light in this whole republican debacle is Palin.

I know that I’m going to get flamed for this, but I believe that conservatism doesn’t have a single meaning: it has several strands. We know that some people are conservative socially, the others are conservative economically, and so on. Some people are both social and economic conservatives. The great thing about Reagan is that he could put different strands of conservatism in one umbrella. The way I understand Rush is that a person has to hold every single conservative position (in social, economic, patriotic, etc.) before he can be called ‘conservative’.

And this is why I said to you earlier in the week, “I don’t care who wins this election.”

Rush needs to give his head a shake. If McCain doesn’t win this election, and the Dems get 60 in the Senate, here comes the Fairness Doctrine.

And that’s not all.

Rush can gloat after November 4, if he wants. It’s not the time for it now.

They don't have an ideology besides power. As Rush said, if you went to Democratic leaders and said "I'm a liberal but I'm pro life" or I'm a liberal but I believe in traditional marriage," they don't want to hear from you. So why should we entertain hearing people who say, "I'm a conservative but I'm pro choice" or "I'm a conservative but I'm pro gun control?" As the late William Buckley was once fond of saying anything that isn't conservative by definition sooner or later becomes liberal. The moment you compromise with the Left on your core principles, they've already won.

Unfunded mandates are not Conservative. The burden of educating special needs children has been put on the States. If the federal government funds their mandate it will free up education money in the States.

No, educating all Americans to the best of their ability to learn is not ‘RINO’.

Because that is conservatism, the rest of the people have to balance what compromises they will accept, that is why a lot of the liberal republicans are joining Obama, Palin is too conservative for them and they won’t support her just to maintain their “economic conservatism”
