Experts say U.S. economic conditions and the presidential election are partly responsible for an increase in the sale of guns and ammunition this year.
Data supplied by federal and state government show sales of firearms up 8 to 10 percent in 2008, continuing a trend that began in 2006, The Washington Post reported Monday.
The newspaper said interviews with dozens of gun dealers and buyers in Virginia and Maryland indicate the hike in sales appears to be driven predominantly by concerns about the election and the economy.
"Generally, we know that hard economic times always result in firearm sales," James Purtillo of Silver Spring, Md., publisher of Tripwire Newsletter, told the Post.
Gun shop owner Steve Clark of Warrenton, Va., says his customers have been buying weapons they fear will be restricted or heavily taxed.
"What I hear a lot is fear that Barack (Obama) will win the election and tax everything to the point that you can't afford anything," Eugene Proko, 51, a salesman at Clark's shop, told the Post.
Because the people know things that the MSM can’t or won’t report.

Moynihan Asks Big Tax Increase On Ammunition
By ADAM CLYMER
Published: November 4, 1993
Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan said today that he would insist that President Clinton’s health-care plan include a huge increase in Federal taxes on handgun ammunition that would make some especially destructive bullets unaffordable.
The New York Democrat has often contended that the best way to attack gun violence would be to restrict the sale of ammunition, not guns. Today, for instance, he noted that the nation has a 200-year supply of guns but only a 4-year supply of ammunition.
“Guns don’t kill people; bullets do,” he told the Senate as he introduced his legislation today. “It is time the Federal Government began taxing handgun ammunition used in crime out of existence.”
I’ve been part of that.
What do you mean you have been part of that?
I’ve been buying ammo in order stock up.
Oh, ok, good plan that:)
Joe Biden proudly admits he authored the gun ban and calls “This my baby” questioner mentally unqualified to own a gun....
Obama Favors Gun Bans...
People kill people you moron.
Why must Liberals be so stupid?
People are not falling for Obama’s act. They know he is a POS gun grabber.
I didn’t do it!
Its not my fault!
Exactly.....violence, taxes, and gunbans. I’m going to my first gun show this weekend and hope to get something and some ammo. Any advice?
My two cents: Remington 870 12 ga. Inexpensive, very reliable, excellent abd versatile defensive weapon
People are buying all over the country.
I agree that is a good weapon. I have one. I did hear that remmington has raised prices a lot recently though, but you should still get one. You also may want to look at an AKor another inexpensive semi-auto. Make sure you buy at least 1,000 rounds.
If you get the shotgun get number 4 buckshot. It covers more ground, but still hits. If things get really crazy though you will want a semi-auto rifle. That shotgun will have you sore after a while. Make sure you get hollow point, and be careful if you live in a real crowded area, because you could hit a lot of your neighbors. Get both if you have the money. If you are in a real crowded area though get that shotgun if you can only afford one, because it will be safer for you neighbors.
There could be riots if he wins.
Well you know what they say, if you can’t buy things with gold, buy things with lead.
Prayers up that we never get there!
