The clips I heard stated pretty plainly what he thought about not just redistribution but reparative (read: reparations) economic justice. He also commented that the separation of powers was an impediment to the goal of redistribution.

You’re correct. If Obama wins, there will be a lot of sleepwalking folks that will be in for a rude awakening.

Obama: "..that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted.."

As stated by Chief Justice Waite in United States v. Cruikshank et al. (92 U.S. 542)(1875):

..."Its [federal government's] powers are limited in number, but not in degree. Within the scope of its powers, as enumerated and defined, it is supreme and above the States; but beyond, it has no existence. It was erected for special purposes, and endowed with all the powers necessary for its own preservation and the accomplishment of the ends its people had in view. It can neither grant nor secure to its citizens any right or privilege not expressly or by implication placed under its jurisdiction."

Obama was a “Senior Lecturer”, not a Law Professor.
