McCain always does great on these shows, getting that time slot is worth a few votes.

Here is McCain on SNL singing Streisand songs.

The unfortunate truth is that's really what candidates campaign for!

Historically the GOP and the democraps generally can rely on 40 - 45% of the voting demographics no matter who they nominate.
So the battle is always for 10-20% of the remaining voting demographic. They are the “undecideds”! Of course they are not monolithic. They range from conservatives, liberals, people who say they “vote for the best candidate” to those who only become dimly aware of the voting franchise a day or so before the election.
I have particular heartburn toward those who say they “vote for the best candidate”. I vote my “philosophy” not the man or woman. If the candidate is with a party that is counter to my philosophy, I won't vote for them no matter how “good”. Membership in a group that is counter to my philosophy make you ineligible for my vote by definition.
A democrap no mater how seemingly conservative will bring along his moonbat wing, he or she will have to choose from them for policy positions, judge-ships etc.

The purpose of going on Rush is not to sway swing voters - it's to get volunteer to donate time or money to help sway swing voters.

But if the things Rush has been pointing out for weeks about what life would be like under an Obama/Reid/Pelosi nation are not enough to motivate people to do what they can to help McCain win then McCain going on the show surely is a waste of time. The goal in these final days it to make the swing voters feel comfortable with McCain. Going on SNL can do that. An interview w/ Rush won't.

Its a waste of time. He should attend a fundraiser to run more TV ads instead.

it’s a smart move to dominate a portion of the news on Sunday and Monday, especially around water coolers.

Mac also has no choice because otherwise BO would go on and it would be a lovefest.

O’Reilly was complaining tonight about McCain not coming on his show vs. Larry King last night, said he had 7 million viewers compared to only three for King...I don’t always get what McCain is doing either.

“O’Reilly was complaining tonight about McCain not coming on his show vs. Larry King last night, said he had 7 million viewers compared to only three for King...I don’t always get what McCain is doing either.”

McCain was trying to speak to that little sliver of undecided moderates. He felt he’d speak to more of them with King than with O’Reilly. I’d say O’Reilly’s audience is probably 90% Republican.

TERRIBLE IDEA.

Unless he brings along Sarah Palin!!!

Then it’s a massive, election-winning home run.

Which will it be, Senator McCain?

Put Palin, before your ego. You can do it. And you will win.

America will win.

Totally true. Elections in the United States have been hinged on the movement of the center / moderates/ undecideds and independents. Those are the people who will either hand you the presidency or show you the door, particularly in the last 8 years. I think the level of mass OVER-support seen during the days of Reagan (e.g. when he swept 49 states) is a thing of the past, and what we have is a situation such as the Bush/Gore (where one wins the electoral college and the other the popular vote) and Bush/Kerry (where margins are not that high, and could have been shifted by a small shunt by independents).

That is where we are, and unless something really shifts this election, it shall be the same (with Obama or McCain winning by a few points).

Both sides have their bases, who can always be counted on not to vote for the other side (even if they are jaded, like the Conservative base was before the introduction of Palin Magic, the worst they would have done is stay at home). Same thing for the other side ....their core base can be counted on, no matter who is nominated (that is why I have some private doubts on the whole PUMA factor ...while there are real PUMAs, I wonder how much of the total is made up of Operation Chaos type of people. It is hard to swallow that 15 million, as some people claim, Democrats who supported Hillary and her policies, would shift and vote for McCain, go against abortion, go against the kick-backs of the Dems, just because Hillary was not nominated. I think there are tens of thousands of real PUMAs out there, but no way are there 15 million. It would be like hearing there are 15 million 'Republicans for Obama').

Anyways, the base is locked in. That leaves the middle, which is why generally both parties have a leaning of their ideologies towards the center. Without independents, neither party has enough to capture the flag.

In which case, going to SNL makes more sense than going to Rush Limbaugh. Rush is part of the choir ...his listeners are part of the choir ...his demographic is part of the choir. They are already going to vote for McCain. It would be tantamount to McCain coming to Free Republic ...or Obama going to DU. Both groups will vote for their respective candidates, whether those candidates show up or decide to go bowling instead.

However, the independents and undecideds are where the money is. This election hinges on how those people vote ....Obama's and McCain's final numbers will depend on that.

If Obama is seen as flaky and inexperienced, McCain will win. If McCain is seen as old and an extrapolation of Dubya, then Obama wins. It is really that simple.
