NORTHFIELD, Minn. - A professor has confessed on a national blog to stealing Republican presidential campaign signs in southern Minnesota.

Philip Busse wrote about the thefts on Huffington Post, a liberal news Web site and blog in a post dated Thursday. He is a visiting professor in the theater department at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

In the article titled "Confessions of a Lawn Sign Stealer," Busse admits to stealing seven McCain/Palin lawn signs along Hwy. 19 near St. Olaf.

In an e-mail to the Northfield News, Busse expressed remorse, saying it was "immature and impetuous." He says he is disappointed most readers have focused on the thefts and not the larger issues of his writing. ___

Actually, they were mostly dressed in very un-Lutheran short shorts and skimpy tank tops the last warm day I was there. Very fetching. Nice, polite kids, brains freshly-scrubbed by the leftist humanities faculty. Still, there was an overwhelming sense of wholesomeness that transcended the rest of the usual college decadence.

Wow. I’m surprised that you would give money there in the first place.

Wow. I’m surprised that you would give money there in the first place.

Our daughter who went to St. Olaf had a wonderful experience, including her Great Conversations (a Western canon great books program for freshmen and sophomores) program, Oslo Summer, and Global Semester abroad programs. As I said, compared to the other schools she was considering, St. Olaf was a bargain - probably $40,000 less over 4 years. I give to the colleges and universities from which I've received my various degrees and thought giving money to music programs and scholarships at St. Olaf was good thing.
