Cops: Cape Girardeau woman kills man who returned to rape her second time

An intended rape victim shot and killed her attacker this morning in Cape Girardeau when he broke into her home to rape her a second time, police said.

The 57-year-old woman shot Ronnie W. Preyer, 47, a registered sex offender, in the chest with a shotgun when he broke through her locked basement door.

The woman told police he was the same man who raped her several days earlier. Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.

She was home alone again Friday about 2:15 a.m. when Preyer broke the same basement window. The victim was awake watching television, when Preyer switched off the electricity to her house.

She tried to call 911, but couldn't because the power was off. She got a shotgun and waited as the man began banging on the basement door. She fired when Preyer came crashing through the door. When Preyer collapsed, the woman escaped and went to a neighbor's home, where she called police.

In urban SF area and LA California counties this woman would be charged with first degree murder with the special circumstance of "lying in wait", because of her statement.

Even though a conviction would be unlikely, the purpose is to punish the citizen financially and open the door for a civil suit by the perp's family. That's how rotten the prosecutors and cops are here.

They would base this prosecution on her statement ("got a shotgun and waited") to them (without a lawyer). No lawyer would allow that statement.

Just think how much money this saved the tax payers. Fewer police officers needed to chase the criminal, fewer guards needed at the local jail, fewer public defenders needed, fewer criminal judges needed, fewer court reporters needed, fewer prison cells, less food needed to feed prisoners, etc., etc. This saves a lot of money. The most important thing is that there will be fewer rape victims. Good shot and good choice of weapon.

Thanks for the ping, one of the better stories I’ve seen this year. Rates right up there with Jacksie King in Chicago (I think that was ‘05) and the unnamed lady who was being stalked in Indiana. Imagine some thug banging on your basement door!
