Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?
vanity ^ | 11-5-08 | Various

Today, Red State ran an article on the origination of nasty lies from within the McCain/Palin camp. They report, Romney staffers now working on the McPalin campaign have been spreading the stories of Palin’s “ineptitude” to the press. Red State and other reporters accuse Romney staffers, including Kevin Madden (former Romney press-man) of pushing reporters into “Troopergate” stories and other possible negative Palin story angles. Palin provides a threat to Romney for a presidential run, but now is not the time for in-party fighting.

American Girl has been very critical of long-time Romney supporter Kathleen Parker (see here and here), a “Republican,” from the National Review for her consistent ridicule of Palin instead of criticising the Democrat ticket. Parker has proven to be a putrid, vile opportunist in this election. Parker has only proven to me that she would stab my dog if it helped her personal interests.

Mitt Romney has an obligation to his party and beliefs to publicly hog-tie Madden, Parker, and his surrogates (I have a list). If Romney fails to reign them in and rehires them for another WH bid, he can count on American Girl fighting hard against his nomination.

This is no threat, but a promise. I will take my money, my volunteers, my time, this blog, and more - and back another candidate. Guaranteed.

--------------------------------------------------------

When I was in St. Paul for the Republican Convention, more than a dozen people told me acolytes of Mitt Romney were feeding all the stories to the media portraying Palin in a negative light.

In fact, I heard that one of the biggest pushers of anti-Palin stories, including encouraging reporters to pursue the "Trooper-gate" story was Romney spokesman Kevin Madden.

I did not blog on it at the time because I perceived it to be people trying to finish off Romney. It likewise seemed clear to me that if this was going on, it was people loyal to Romney who were still hoping for his come back and not Romney himself.

These days it is hard to miss Kathleen Parker's savage attacks on Sarah Palin. She, along with several others listed here attacking Sarah Palin were also some of the first pundits in bed with the Romney campaign in 2007/8.

Again, it is hard for me to place the finger on Romney. It seems to me that these are people who are still convinced he's the better nominee and don't want Palin to be in any position to challenge him in 2012.

At this moment, however, it is absolutely clear -- there is an effort, organized or not, by supporters of Mitt Romney to harm the reputation of Governor Sarah Palin.

The American Spectator documented it yesterday.

Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House, have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election. "Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012," says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin. "The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."

Though I initially dismissed the Kevin Madden rumors, Amanda Carpenter has Kevin in his own words going after Sarah Palin.

And it is not just Madden. It may be hard for you to believe, but there are Romney supporters now working on John McCain's campaign who are, in fact, indisputably out to damage Sarah Palin's reputation. I am not just convinced of it. I know it to be fact. That there are "conservative pundits" echoing the same talking points makes me deeply suspicious.

I agree with Matt Lewis. I doubt Mitt Romney is responsible or encouraging it. In fact, I suspect he'd be extremely disappointed to find this out. Nonetheless, whether organic or organized, it is happening and it deeply worries me that these people now undermining Sarah Palin view Romney as the logical choice to lead the RNC or be the front runner in 2012. You don't get to sabotage your own side and then have your guy be the front runner.

We must remember this. Contrary to the quote in the American Spectator, if November 5th ushers in President-elect Obama, I stand with Sarah.

It never ends. The lies about Romney continue and he still catches all the blame, despite the fact that he campaigned his pattooty off for McCain/Palin and other Republicans.

The two most talented people we have are Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney. While the left does Palin in, the right does in Romney. Wonderful. Let's lose the presidency again in 2012. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Really AFC, you're better than that.

I couldn't agree more with your entire post. Well said.

Unfortunately, they're running with the lies about Romney to stop once and for all any talk of his being the nominee in 2012. They lie like the Liberals. NOT a good thing.

She was pulled from her element into a media firestorm and delivered almost every single time.
She will grow into handling the media..it’s called lack of inside the beltway experience, it’s not stupidity.

The enemy within and the lies get bigger. You know full well that the people who supported Romney supported Palin. The Romney pepole I know are not happy with the way the McCain campaign was run, NOT with Palin. They fully support Pain.

First off, you have never heard me knock Romney (or Mormons, for that matter - someone seemed to lump with me the Anti-Mormon bigots earlier...).

I said “Team Romney,” and I meant it. That means all of the pro-Romney media saboteurs (Parker, among others), the campaign team who we now know have been leaking smears for a long time in a series of disgruntled acts for not picking their guy (Mitt), and those folks - members of Team Romney - who have been quick to spread ridiculous smears and attacks ONE day after the election in the hopes of destroying Palin so that Mitt somehow becomes the new front-runner.

My only repudiation of Mitt Romney himself right now is that he ought to be calling these folks out by name and repudiating them harshly. He could shut them up NOW - and nobody can convince me otherwise.

But we need to know their rnames, print their names, and remember their names. These folks are going to be looking for jobs in the next campaign season, and we need to make them radioactive for what they are doing, and have done, to Sarah Palin and this campaign.

I will never forget these folks - NEVER.

..they're running with the lies about Romney to stop once and for all any talk of his being the nominee in 2012.

And their running with lies about Sarah too.
It's a total, concentrated effort to eliminate any future Republican candidate with a chance to win.

They want us to nominate another McCain.

Did you bother to read what I said? I specifically said staffers not supporters — staffers are PAID. I have never said supporters on here did not support Palin. I know Romney supporting pundits that didn’t — Kathleen Parker and others. I made a specific point time after time of saying staffers not supporters.

There is a big difference and shame you cannot see it. Saw some of those paid staffers here in my state in an earlier campaign and don’t respect them and their tactics at all.

I couldn’t agree more and have said the same. Mostly the left has attempted to ruin Palin and in the same vein some on the right are attempting to ruin Romney. They are our two brightest stars. And if they keep it up we’ll lose the next election.

We agree and strongly, about those who turned against Sarah.
Kathleen Parker, a snob who I have never liked, is a regular on Chris Matthews and she did it to impress her liberal frineds. It’s the same for David Brooks who in addition, sounds like he has converted to the left. This had nothing to do with Romney and I’m tired of people saying so.

"I am ashamed that I worked so hard to get Romney the state of Illinois in the primaries."

Any pundits supporting Romney who then attacked Palin acted on their own, and in most cases for reasons that had nothing to do with Romney.

Why would you then be ashamed of working so hard in the Illinois primary for Romney?

Steve Schmidt is another M4-Romney RomneyAttackBOT plunging a knife into
Gov. Palin and her children for the pooch- and GOP-screwing Mitt-Romney.

"Schmidt was importuned by several of the Republican aspirants for president earlier this year.
Mitt Romney sent him an antique chair to symbolize a seat at the table."

Would any of the ROmneyBOTS share with FReeRepublic a picture of that chair their Master sent his minion?

Hey, I like Romney. I like Palin.

But I don’t like the unChristian itchy ear crap on this thread. I love facts and it turns out that Nicole Wallace and Rick Davis were the ones giving out inside information designed to hurt Palin. They were the scoundrels and none of them had connections to Romney.

Any criticism that was made from others like Kevin Madden was mild and public knowledge.

You guys are just throwing a fit. It is interesting to see that Romney is leading in the Newsweek for 2012. I guess if he was way behind then you guys wouldn’t be throwing a fit.

Anyway, go Palin/Jindal 2012 because I can’t see liars smear a good man like Romney again.

No one who describes ROmney’s lies, fake badges, betraying
the GOP, weekly metamorphosis, coverup of the BIGdig,
fascist HillaryCARE=RomneyCARE, repeat use of criminal
illegal aliens, stabbing other GOP candidates
(in so many ways), and bad socialistic governing is a ‘liar’.

They are Patriots, as far as can be seen.

Whether he smeared Sarah Palin or not, Mitt Romney lost credibility in my eyes when he denied that Obama was a socialist. Even if he felt that way privately, he did not need to undermine Sen. McCain's message.

Not a Mitt hater, I voted for the guy in the NY primary. But I will never do so again under any circumstances.

Focus on the Palin issue. It’s been proven it has been Wallace and Davis. Now, that you have been beaten, I guess you guy to some old issues. I think that technique is called distraction. But, hey we are all accountable to Jesus Christ in the next life. I want to go out honorably. You can too, but again it’s your choice.
