Palin fires back at leaks questioning her smarts Fri Nov 7, 2008 7:56pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fired back on Friday against post-election claims by aides to Republican presidential candidate John McCain that she thought Africa was a country, not a continent, calling the anonymous sources "jerks."

Palin, McCain's running mate in their unsuccessful White House campaign, told CNN the allegation "is not true." She said the leaks could have come from people who helped her with preparation for her debate against Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden.

She said she remembered having conversations during debate preparation about Africa and the North American Free Trade Agreement.

A Fox News report cited unidentified campaign sources who said Palin did not know Africa was a continent and could not name the three countries in NAFTA -- the United States, Canada and Mexico.

"I think if there are allegations based on questions or comments that I made in debate prep about NAFTA or about the continent versus the country when we talk about Africa there, then those were taken out of context, and that is cruel and mean-spirited, it's immature, it's unprofessional, and those guys are jerks," Palin said.

The ones who counseled him to declare Rev Wright "off limits". LOL.

Critizing a Democrat to win an election is off limits, but backstabbing a Republican is ok.

Having Fox News release this story was entirely intentional as I see it. Get angry at Fox if you will but somebody wanted the CONSERVATIVE base to know it, somebody was trying to destroy Palin for the very people who considered her their champion.

John McCain could put an end to this and the fact that it happened at all I lay squarely on his shoulders. Most of the conservative base did NOT like McCain. We always knew McCain was a spiteful, petty man. For sure he was hardly any bastion of loyalty.

What has happened here is all I need to know about John McCain. This is a man who should shrink off quietly into that good night, never to bother us with his reach across the aisle, his spit upon our beliefs, his nasty temper, his mealy-mouth, his big zero self that had his chance and couldn’t pull it off with all those independents and moderates he was so sure would love his selfish self.

Now he wants to destroy the ONLY good thing to come from his sorry campaign.

Because I am convinced McCain is behind all this.

That's what I meant. McCain was the chief Maverick.

No wonder so many decent people avoid getting into politics. They can't handle the sleaze.

And so what if she HAD slipped on words about Africa? She hadn’t been over there recently, campaigning for a muslim murderous relative. She was born in the USA, not Africa. This is BAD if she doesn’t have Africa uppermost in her thoughts???

This is historic! It’s the first time Reuters, and ABC/NBC/MSNBC/CBS/WaPo/NYT/LAT, etc every took a Fox report seriously.

How convenient that it fit their agenda.

The difference here is that Fox News, in the person of Carl Cameron, chose to give them a platform with an extended airing of their anonymous complaints.

Before I couldn't watch anymore on Tuesday night, Cameron couldn't hide his "giddyness" when he knew his man was going to win. O'Reilly is an fraud, and in his words "I'm not rooting for anyone". He is such a freaking egotist. Sad to say, Fox News was my last hope, tv wise, for a respite from the MSM. I'll watch Hannity's America, and that's it. Fox News has sold themselves out for ratings, at least on CNN, you know what you're getting.

So, my FRiends, lets hope that this website is safe during the Hussein Obama regime.

The more the MSM obsesses over Sarah Palin, the more they attempt to destroy her, the more they know that she is ultimately a threat to Chairman O's single party putsch.

I completely agree. I once thought that Carl Cameron was one of their better reporters.

But now we learn that he basically cannot be trusted. If all of this information were true it was unethical to NOT report it when he learned it. “Off the record” doesn’t cut it.

That it seems now that all this stuff is just the bile of bitter juvenile “jerks” in the campaign staff... Means that he doesn’t bother to do any of his own vetting for whatever he is fed.

Either way, he’s shown only that no report he ever does can be trusted.

I agree with Gov. Palin. I suspect that the jerks Palin is referring to, are the same people responsible for Senator McCain's failed campaign. Unprofessional talk like that illustrates a lack of class and intelligence, IMO.

Have we heard directly from Senator McCain defending the honor of his hand-picked veep candidate? Will a statement be forthcoming?

nope...and I'm done with this RINO forever. I thought he should switch sides with Zell Miller years ago. I hope he retires. We don't need him.

Millions of Bush voters either stayed home or switched to Chairman O because John McCain, a true patriot, hero and a man who loves his country, is essentially incoherent.

Have you laid in a box the size of a coffin for 6 plus years for our country? When you do, let me know, and your opinion will be validated, in my mind.Put the blame where it belongs, with some of the American people, some who wouldn't vote for someone "Conservative" enough....

So for those of you how held your nose, while the rest of us diehard were voting for McCain/Palin...trying to send some kind of distorted message, you're just as accountable for what will happen to our great nation under the Obama regime as those who voted for him.
