Where Tuesday's Tide Was All Republican (Oklahoma Turns Redder Alert)
New York Times ^ | 11/7/2008 | James McKinley, Jr

Among Oklahomans, Mr. Cook and Mr. White are hardly alone. Though the state’s Democrats still outnumber its Republicans, you would never know it by looking at the election results. Oklahoma voters went for Senator John McCain by almost two to one, bucking the tide that swept Mr. Obama to the presidency. Not a single one of the state’s 77 counties backed Mr. Obama, despite his endorsement by the popular Democratic governor, Brad Henry. ...

Indeed, the state has a political landscape closely resembling that of the old solidly Democratic South, especially in its southeastern corner, known as Little Dixie, where many Southerners settled after the Civil War. When conservatives of the Old South began abandoning the party decades ago, Oklahoma’s Democrats lagged behind the historical trend. Further, the state has relatively small black and Hispanic populations, and so the Democrats did not absorb as many new voters from those groups as in the states of the old Confederacy.

These days Oklahoma Democrats dread running for local office in presidential election years, for fear of being associated with liberal nominees at the top of the ticket.

“Being liberal in Oklahoma, with the exception of a few legislative districts, will not get you elected,” said State Representative Joe Dorman, a conservative Democrat.

Be prepared. Soros spent a fortune to take Colorado and he is coming after AZ, lots of money spent trying to defeat our congressmen this time, and he will turn his sights on OK, too.

Not only did McCain post one of the biggest wins in a long time here in Tennessee against Obama, The republicans also took over the State House of Legislators, and strengthened their majority in the state senate. They haven’t held a majority of the state house since the Civil War! You know how they did it.... By running as conservatives.

Also, the leftist media likes to talk about how racist we are here in Tennessee. What they fail to mention is that when Harold Ford ran against Bob Corker back in ‘06 for the Senate, (when Tennessee bucked the trend back then as well), Harold Ford received somewhere over 48% of the vote, won a bunch of counties and almost won. Why....

Because Harold Ford is not as Liberal as Obama. Goes to prove that this wonderful state I live in is nowhere near the racist state the media makes it out to be. That we really are voting on Policy matters, not skin color.

But don’t tell the media that. They wouldn’t believe it if you paid them.

I think 2012 is between Sarah and Jindal. Let the two of them battle it out and the best man or woman win... they both walk the walk and talk the talk from what I’ve seen.

I think this is why the real person/people behind her smear campaign refuses to release his/her name, we'd be able to connect the dots and it "could" prove embarassing to a probably POTUS candidate.

Carl Cameron knows who told him, but Fox should never have allowed that report unless there was a name attached to it. She has a right to confront her accuser...

Actually, TN voters have been voting majority or plurality preference for the GOP for the State House of Reps since the mid ‘90s. Grotesque Democrat gerrymandering kept us from getting a majority of actual seats. We got a huge majority of voters, over 1.1 million to 900k that voted GOP for the legislature this time and STILL because of gerrymandering we only won by 1 seat (we actually had de facto control of the House back from 1969-71 when it was tied 49-49 with 1 Independent — a Black Democrat from Knoxville voted for the Republican candidate for Speaker, future Congressman Bill Jenkins, and we had control — when the Dems won a narrow majority in 1970, they gerrymandered us ruthlessly until this day, keeping an emerging permanent Republican majority at bay). When Jenkins was elected, we were the first Southern state to have a GOP legislative leader since the 1890s.

I’ve always thought the real racism is in the industrialized north and upper midwest.

I’ve not cared for the way Fox News has been behaving. They act scarcely better than the other ultrarodent news outlets. I believe Murdoch (that great Conservative — NOT. He’s a Capitalist, and even Chinese Communists are Capitalists these days) was in the bag for the Democrat ticket, so we all know how that goes. I think it’s long past time we had a network that is EXCLUSIVELY Conservative and stops trying to pander to the left. Fox seems to like to hire leftist CNN rejects. When Jerry Rivers, the old creep who screwed, ahem, “dated”, half my mother’s coworkers (salesgirls at Bonwit-Teller) in the late ‘60s/early ‘70s in NYC was hired, that was the last sign that Fox jumped the shark.

Yep, this fair and balanced crap is old. MSNBC and CNN don’t even pretend... I think one reason Greta has been so popular the last few months has been she just decided to go all out for Palin after she saw what happened to Hillary... she didn’t like it at all; I think she may be a PUMA.

With the illegals taking over the great state of Texas, this native son may be crossing that Red River soon. I always liked Oklahoma anyway. I bet Ardmore would be nice. I love the Turner Falls area, but Davis is a little small.

Largent was a great football player, not so great a politician. He may have been a little too honest for Congress.

Even though Neidermeier was killed by his own troops in Nam, Omega House wasn’t all bad: Kevin Bacon was a pledge.

Great news from Tennessee, thanks for that.

I thought the state had been drifting a little leftward recently so this is a really encouraging bright spot.

I’m sure it drives the lefties in Nashville nuts.

I think Kevin’s character ended up in the nervous hospital for a good long stint after the parade... at least after they peeled him off the street. ;-)
