America Held Hostage- the Obama Files...

With a hattip to Rush ( His idea during the Clinton plague upon America ) I am starting a file on “The One,” mostly starting from the election date.

Older stuff- links, quotes, quips, and sometimes pointed graphics can be found by scrolling back from these two posts:

-Hillary Clinton- archives, comments, and opposition research--

-Sarah Palin- links, from the beginning--

There is some good material in those posts that raises a lot of uncomfortable questions that everyone ought to be asking, and probably will once the “new” wears off, and we are stuck with four ( more likely eight, since 95% of the news & entertainment media are in his pocket ) years of a typical corrupt Chicago Political Machine Politician trying to jerk the whole country in one direction and then the next.

You've all heard the saying,

”People get the kind of government they want...
...and deserve?”

Well, America, you are about to “get it, good & hard...”

Don't say you weren't warned- we tried to tell you...

We did everything we could, and our state went for the Old Guy & the Naughty Librarian, but too many other voters were made stupid by the TV and public schools for it to matter.

We're in a Hell of a mess, and the worst thing is, "we"- the collective we, not you & I-- got us here.

Is Obama really the Abyss...

staring back at us?

I like to make points with humorous graphics- this one sums it up as well as any:

Then, in a nutshell, "everything I see going bad with all this hopi- changi- stuff The One is peddling-- forced labor, censorship, spin, and pure mean-spirited rudness:

Email of the day

Atlas readers rock! I am blown away by the overwhelming response to this post  (and this one) to get involved to take back our country from the Soros, socialists, and the self proclaimed messiah - oy. More than one email brought a tear to my eye but I wanted to share this one with you.

If this best represents who we are, what we want and where we are going, there is no way we can lose. Greatness is in the house. I am proud to count you as my friends. Prouder still to stand with you and fight this great fight.

I want to lead a county.

I was born in Cuba, and know the language of Communism, Obama speaks it well.  My grandfather's family had to flee Lebanon because of the Muslims to Cuba. We fled Cuba because of Castro.

This is the best country in the whole wide world.  I was a child when I left Cuba with the clothe on my back, we left my parent's sister and I, left behind everything.

America is Worth fighting for and Freedom is worth defending.  I do not want my children to grow up in oppression, nor do I wish exile upon them.

Please allow me to help, again, Id like to lead a county.

My name is Ingrid and Im in Miami, in Miami Dade County

May the Light always shine upon America,

Ingrid

UPDATE: In case there was any doubt as to what the victorious zombies have in mind. Check out this comment (left in the comment section) . Can you say rude awakening?

You people are pathetic!

Your racist fear mongering will not go unchallenged!  Soon we will shut down your hate spewing web sites.  We will confiscate your firearms.  In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways.  We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice.  We will have a new American Republic of justice and order for all!

You time is almost up!  Prepare for the dung heap of history!

It sounds insane (which it is) but I believe the writer is quite serious.

"We will confiscate your firearms. In prison, you will get an education on the error of your ways. We will take your children and raise them as our own and instill in them the values of social justice".....

Heh heh heh....I am sure you are serious, but that is funny!

Values of social justice....like Mao? Stalin? Lenin? Ho-chi Min? Pol Pot? Which of these butchers of social justice did you have in mind?"

170,000,000
That's the number of civilians that have been murdered by their own governments in the 20th century alone.

Innocents Betrayed is a must see video produced by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms (scroll down to see links to view the Introduction to Innocents Betrayed)

Now consider Obama's 'civilian defense force' which he intends to fund and equip as well as our standing military coupled with his promise to revisit the second amendment (repeal concealed carry privilege) and then compound this injury with Ayers' inspired youth corps.

CHANGE.GOV OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT ELECT (hat tip rut)

Obamessiah has a new site up as President-elect soliciting ideas form the proletariat.
Let's hope it doesn't become the hub for the hate whitey and Jew boy Obamavomit that his last site was.

Surf the site. Take note. Keep your eye on the The Obama National Service Plan- the page is empty (how apropos) but that piques my interest.

President Obama To Bring Back Slavery

Just in case anyone think Mr. Obama is not serious about this, bear in mind that his new Chief of Staff wrote a book demanding this very thing:

Amazon.com: The Plan: Big Ideas for America: Rahm Emanuel, Bruce Reed: Books
http://www.amazon.com/Plan-Big.....038;sr=1-1

Don’t forget they want a Gestapo/KKK civilian force the size of the pentagon to keep everybody inline and things running smoothly.

“Suddenly, all mention of “required” has been disappeared. ”

SOME THOUGHTS ON OBAMA'S mandatory volunteerism plan. Plus, reader Nancy Anne Potts writes:

Looks like the change.gov site is true to it's title - it changes!

During the time when I was looking at the blog you linked to concerned mandatory community service the change.gov page saying "require community service" changed to goal for community service. The new wording is:

"..... Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free."

I found the the cached page on Google it has the original "required" wording.

Looks like they caught their "mistake". Now will the real plan please step forward -- goal or required. (Although the way government sets goals, they often wind up looking like requirements so maybe the two aren't all that different.)

Ugh! I see card check made the economy page too. He may be the president elect but I don't have to like his plans!

Not until the second term. Then that will be made mandatory, too . . . .

Meanwhile, Robert Bidinotto comments: "Anyone recall what the Soviets used to do to history books?" The Obama folks have a history of airbrushing.

IF YOU VOTED FOR MCCAIN, you're a racist. Just in case nobody had bothered to tell you.

President-elect Barack Obama's First Press Conference - Complete Video 11/7/08

Obama Mocks Nancy Reagan in 1st Press Conference

It's  classless to mock a frail, elderly woman. (Note he was not kind in his revelation about his own "typical white person" grandmother, either.)

It's even worse to mock the widow of a great former president. Whatever you think of her, she deserves respect.

Especially classless was mocking Nancy Reagan on stage, before hundreds of reporters and television cameras, knowing the "joke" would be heard by millions. This wasn't some private remark that got picked up by a live mike.

On Concerns Over Gun Control, Gun Sales Are Up

From "Change.gov", the official transition website. Agenda tab and then select "urban policy" and go down to "Crime Control".

Address Gun Violence in Cities:
As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

There will be no one left to protect you
Barack Obama wants to institute a Civilian National Security Force, a vast militia not unlike Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, a personal army. He knows he would need such a force to protect him and to enforce his will on Americans. Americans will have not seen such arbitrary power used against them since the days of the Civil War when Lincoln put the Constitution in the bottom drawer of his desk and set about arresting anyone who opposed his policies...

Hmmmm... this one is very difficult. I was in the military, and we were taught we salute the uniform, not the man. So I respect the office, not the man. However, I am adopting a wait and see. If Obama governs as if he cares about America, even if we disagree, I can accept that. If Obama governs as I expect, like a Manchurian candidate who is bent on America’s deconstruction, that is when he will disqualify himself as being my president.

An array of other advocacy groups are stepping forward with their priorities for the new Congress.

Barack Obama: The Kingfish Reborn

Do Unto Obama As Liberals Did Unto Bush

Coal stocks plummet. Average 15%, many over 30% since Tuesday Gee, wonder why?

Kate, this is important and you should listen to it. It's about Obama's cult of personality and it is short.

From the blogs- and, always, read the Anchoress:

Bush, Obama, & Ghosts of Hate - UPDATED

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” Lincoln’s Second Annual Message to Congress, December 1, 1862.

I would love nothing better than to be able to stop writing about “left” and “right.” I wish we had a better vocabulary to describe our distinctions, because these words are limiting and off-putting. I am determined, with the merciful conclusion of this abusively long election season, to work diligently at spending less time entertaining these distinctions. But for today, I think it is only fair to note a very important and glaring difference between “left and right” - and in so doing - consider how we may, finally, stop needing to indulge in what is tedious.

Victor Davis Hanson
says Let’s not imitate the left in our opposition. I agree.

It has been wonderful - really beyond wonderful - to consider how differently most of the right has reacted to their defeat than the left did in 2000 and 2004. In the two previous elections, the left responded by calling the other half of the country “stupid,” “morons,” and “Nazis” - Jane Smiley called them “unteachably ignorant” - they indulged in high drama, sniffling “apologies” to the globe, and denunciations of their fellow countrymen as “lying between repugnant and reptile in the dictionary.”

And oh, yeah (eyeroll) George W. Bush was not “their” president.

While you’ll see a few disgruntled extremists on the right say foolish, even ignorant things - and many throwing daggers at the sickening double-standards of the press - they’re not indulging in that sort of dehumanizing (and very adolescent) hate of their fellow countrymen or the president-elect. The reports they’re filing read very differently than those following the Bush wins. They read as grown-up, tolerant, open-minded discourses, not tantrums. There is a willingness to be hopeful, even in defeat.

And there is a determined respectfulness being offered to the winners - people who could not manage maturity and respectfulness in their defeat and who, sadly, are not always managing it in their victory, either.

I’m hopeful that the left - if it takes the time to actually condescend to notice how well it is being treated by the vanquished - might consider that self-indulgent defamation is the lesser way; that such a consideration may inspire introspection, and perhaps the smallest bit of regret for some of their appalling excesses toward the right and toward the American President who did not return hate in-kind.

I’m hopeful. I’m an optimist. I KNOW that the folks on the right - for all of their faults, and both sides certainly have faults - want America to be successful and strong and exceptional and free. I’m hopeful that hugely empowered left will discover that - beyond the feel-goodism of “free social programs” which are never free -they actually, really do want all of those things, too. That they’ll look back on the last 8 years and realize, finally, that their enemy was never George W. Bush. Bush, the guy who never dehumanized them, was only trying serve those corny ideals.

And then, miraculously, we may actually have unity.

Some similar thinking from my girl crush, Donna Brazile:

“The one mistake that we continue to make is that we label people. We say you’re conservatives, liberal, progressive, right wing, left wing. I think people just want to spend one day being Americans. They want to come together around a common purpose, common values.”

I wondered the other day if the catharsis of this election might open up “a vein of generosity” (or at least decency) from the left as concerns President Bush. I have not seen it yet, but I’m going to be optimistic and keep looking.

But maybe it’s enough just to see a little appreciation from the right, to start. Like this, for instance:

I link, therefore, I Err has a little mini-round-up of appreciation for George W. Bush. You’ll want to read it all.

From Alppuccino at Protein Wisdom:

At 10:40, President Bush will keep his streak alive by telling everyone how much he loves America. Just as he always has. And he’ll show everyone how much he loves America by preparing Obama as best he can for the next 4 years.

Read it all; it’s doubtful that Obama’s team will come into the White House finding O’s missing from their keyboards, any rude messages greeting them. And that is how it should be in America, a respectful transition.

Michael Gerson:

Many liberals refuse to concede Bush’s humanity, much less his achievements.

But that humanity is precisely what I will remember. I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency — a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential.

[In 2005]…the White House senior staff overwhelmingly opposed a new initiative to fight malaria in Africa for reasons of cost and ideology…In the crucial policy meeting, one person supported it: the president of the United States, shutting off debate with a moral certitude that others have criticized. I saw how this moral framework led him to an immediate identification with the dying African child, the Chinese dissident, the Sudanese former slave, the Burmese women’s advocate. It is one reason I will never be cynical about government — or about President Bush.

Jeffery Scott Shapiro:

[The treatment of President Bush] from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have…Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Until we fix, within ourselves, our enthrallment with hate for others, simply because they hold differing views, we’ll never pull it together. In 2006 we watched a right-wing blogger be called less than human by a left-wing reader. We’ve seen President Bush being referred to as “the chimp” and “the monkey” by the wits who insisted that ideology trumped having a decent respect for another’s humanity. I wrote about that a little here:

Thus, George W. Bush is “Chimpy McHitler.” Hillary Clinton is “a pig in a pantsuit.” Barack Obama is “O-Bambi.” Cindy McCain, who has exhibited some courage and laudable compassion in her life, is reduced to a “pill-popping beer-frau,” and so forth. From there it is smooth sailing down an ever-descending river of hatred, until we are incapable of seeing anything good in the “other,” both because we have willfully hardened our hearts, and because our hate — especially when it is supported by a group of like minds — feels safe and inviolable.

With that in mind, you’ll want to read this excellent piece over at Conversion Diary, wherein Jenifer ponders pictures from a Nazi-era photo album and wonders, how such common-variety people managed to support and enable such profound evil.

One thing that stands out in all these examples is that the victims of the widespread evil were categorized as something less than human…not only that innocent people were killed or enslaved, but that their humanity was taken away by the societies around them…So here is the advice I would offer to my children, and to my children’s children:

Every decade or so, take a look around the society in which you live, and ask yourself if there is any group of human beings who are seen as something less than human. A big tipoff is if dehumanizing words — terms other than “man,” “woman,” “child,” “baby,” or “person” — are used to describe any category of people.

And if you ever see that going on, you might be in the midst of something gravely evil.

Dehumanizing people begins with baby-steps like name-calling, or the sort of intellectual dishonesty that delights in deliberately twisting the meaning of others in negative and misrepresentative ways. Those are the little gateways to the great evils that come once you’ve managed to thoroughly de-humanize others.

We’ve had 8 years - I’d say 12, really - of people demonizing and dehumanizing others, from both sides, and it is not getting us anyplace good. I believe that the response of most of the right to Obama’s victory is a step toward changing that. But the left has to do their part, too.

Pope Benedict XVI said, “those who hope live differently.” The election of Barack Obama was borne on this word, “Hope.”

If the people who voted for “hope” were sincere, then let them begin, today, to embrace it - and to live differently - without the kneejerk move to hate “the other side.” The right, responding levelly to their defeat, has offered the opening. Will the left take it?

UPDATE: Seems some will. Here is mostly accurate, and apprecited praise from a surprising quarter:

Would America have elected Barack Obama if white Americans had not gotten accustomed to seeing (in succession) two African-American Secretaries of State? I don’t think so. Before Bush, African-Americans were appointed to some good posts but not to our #1 foreign policy job. Two African Americans (one with a pretty odd first name) served as America’s face to the world. That eased Obama’s way. It is not Tiger Woods in whose footsteps Obama is walking — it’s Rice and Powell….Fact is, “W” never gave any evidence of holding racist attitudes…even just the slur the occasionally slips out of the mouth of even our most liberal leaders.

Same with Arabs and Muslims…Bush, after 9/11, never resorted to anti-Arab or Muslim stereotypes. He drew distinctions between terrorists and Arabs…Had he not done these things, Arabs and Muslims might have experienced not just hate crimes but pogroms.

Meanwhile, from Grand Rants:

Here is a man who is regularly compared to Hitler in casual conversation in Leftist circles high and low. His honor has been regularly impugned, his intelligence (or, as the press loves to put it, his “intellectual curiousity”) constantly demeaned, his verbal stumblings consistently mocked, and his accomplishments in office discounted or ignored. He is a man who kept his head down and did his job, despite the slings and arrows hurled at him by fortune made all the more outrageous by nearly the entire Democratic party.

I for one, would like to say thank you to Pres. Bush. For keeping us safe. For watching out for us. For persevering in spite of all the spite. I believe history will ultimately judge you as one of America’s best presidents, and I believe you deserve that judgement.

H/T to Opinionated Catholic, who writes:

The throwing under the bus of the President by even his friends and indeed the base has been shocking to me. Many groups will find out soon enough how they took Bush’s support and advocacy for them for granted, Catholics, especially.

Meanwhile, Jules Crittenden is beginning to enjoy Omerica, Quin Hillyer is saying America is over, kaput, finished, Evan Thomas suddenly finds Obama “slightly creepy” and when you refuse to release medical records, and the press doesn’t care…conjecture begins about your mental health.

Forty-Fourth President, Twelfth Imam

by Baron Bodissey

O-Man’s Fibonacci spiral haloThe election results were long expected, but now that the day has arrived it’s quite a letdown, anyway. Reading about the joy expressed by Hamas and Syria and Italy and Indonesia… contemplating Obama’s Secretary of State, or (God help us) Defense… Thinking about the USA becoming just like Sweden, only with a real army, and aircraft carriers, and nukes… First Lady Michelle…

It’s all too depressing.

So, as is my habit in such circumstances, instead of writing a post this evening or doing something else useful, I created yet another iconic image of The One. After looking around at some of his existing halos, I decided to make one myself. A man can’t have too many halos, right?

And then I pondered the phenomenon of halos appearing behind the heads of great national leaders, men who are born into modest Muslim circumstances, but in time become presidents of large countries that have nuclear weapons. It made me think of…
- - - - - - - - -
Mad Jad’s HaloMahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Ol’ Mad Jad got his halo when he went to visit the UN a couple of years ago. It appeared behind his head while he was speaking. Not only that, his audience was held in such rapt attention by his words that they were unable to blink for thirty minutes. We know all this is true because he told us so.

I wonder how many other resemblances there are between him and Barack Hussein Obama.

Ahmadinejad sees himself as preparing the way for the Twelfth Imam, as a sort of satanic John the Baptist for the man who is prophesied to return and usher in the apocalypse preceding the establishment of the permanent reign of Islam over the entire world.

And Obama’s got a bigger halo.

Does that mean…? Nah — it couldn’t be… But still… It makes me wonder…

What if the One were also the Twelfth?

Note to the literal-minded: this post is for fun, not to be taken seriously. Given the circumstances, it’s the only fun I’m likely to have for quite a while.

We may have to set up a “Free Republic in Exile” like Degaulle did when the Nazis overran France, but we’ll manage.

Some realistic things to expect early in the Obama Administration

I work in Chicago. I deal with a great many attorneys in my job, many of whom are staunch Dims and breathless Obambi supporters; some were even active in his campaign. More than one told me that at or near the top of Obambi’s agenda is a new Hate Crimes bill, with a wide expansion of what will be considered a hate crime

Didn't you notice that Obama is a conservative?  "Obama is, in his own words, something of a Rorschach test. Well, after the 2006 debacle, I wrote this:

But I'm just burned, and bummed out. The elections. The sellout of Israel. The Moonbats. The Stupid Party. The Evil Party.

Then again, after yesterday there's this:

”Zimbabwe On The Potomac...”

You know there were warning signs...

I kept telling people when Bill Clinton slithered in to office, and clung to it, despite all the scandals, and Impeachment itself-- “He's just a symptom. Like a fever is of a disease- there's something wrong with America.”

Like Popular Culture- look at the magazines-- I call it “thugs & jugs,” or “which Pop Tart is popping out whose baby this week?”

Or Katrina- ever seen so many people milling around with their hands out, when they should have been helping themselves?

We did it to ourselves, and The New, Improved Black Jesus is merely a symptom.

All civilizations have a shelf life- once enough citizens figure out that by electing the “right” representatives, they can use the power of the government to pick the pockets of others,

...it's all over, except for the details.

Well, we're in the “details,” now.

Meanwhile, I have to figure out what Miss Emily and I do with what's left of our lives, and bush hog her Mom's old place in the country, because City Life isn't going to be worth living from here on out.

I'll catch you all later...

...maybe...

Obama: Fool? Or Traitor?

Surprise! Times Square Bomb Suspect a Muslim (Did you honestly suspect any other profile?)

How wearily predictable:

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer 'Frustrated' That Times Square Bomber Is a Muslim

Faisal Shahzad (Failed Car Bomber) was a Registered Democrat

Time Square Bomber a Democrat and Obama Donor?

Still tracking down that news but one thing is clear: he wasn't a Tea Partier!

There are reports that Faisal Shahzad, the failed Time Square bomber was a registered Democrat in Connecticut and may be a donor to Obama's campaign.

This comes after the Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg openly speculated that the bomber might be “somebody with a political agenda who doesn't like the health care bill or something." Coming on the heels of repeated warnings from Obama, Bill Clinton and others that Tea Parties might lead to violence it was only natural for libs to assume this attack may have been inspired by opposition to Obama. But like the other baseless charges in Obama's political repertoire, this one turned out to be false as well.

Homeland Security almost let terrorist slip away?

What's worse than the overt profiling of Tea Partiers is the sheer incompetence of the Obama Administration which nearly let Faisal Shahzad get away. While security at the JFK airport in New York City was busy patting down little old ladies, Shahzad boarded his flight to the Middle East, the plane had began to pull away from the gate and only at the last second was the suspect caught.

Ten trillion dollars. That’s the conservative estimate of the amount of money Barack Obama, Albert Gore Jr., and a whole cast of criminals stand to make yearly (gross) off of the greatest scam in human history: “global warming.”

If you have ever sat back, scratching your head and wondering why the Marxists are pushing for a “cap and trade” bill that would not only make energy costs “necessarily skyrocket,” to quote Barack Obama, but do absolutely nothing to effect fictional “climate change, ” one way or the other, you are about to find out.

We have long known this Marxist idea was nothing more than a continuation of the communist desire to “spread the wealth” by forcibly stealing from those who create and earn, and giving to those that don’t. This is an inbred mental defect that can’t be cured, only contained, the most effective way being: not to elect these evil, corrupt people in the first place!

When we first learned of the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) we smelled a rat. No one has been more radical than Barack Obama when it comes to pushing the “global warming” hoax, and the “cap and trade” scheme. Being based in Chicago, common sense told us that Obama was somehow involved, and it was as corrupt as the day is long.

POLITICIZING THE WAR ON TERROR: Steny Hoyer: Dems more successful at fighting terrorists than GOP. Yeah, the “system” worked great in Times Square.

This gets a response from Hugh Hewitt:

The incompetence level of the Administration –on almost every issue– is leaking to the surface like the oil in the Gulf. The consequences of this incompetence are most obvious along the coasts of Florida, Alabama and Louisiana, but they will be most deadly if the national security team continues its feckless ways. As Fred Barnes pointed out on yesterday’s program, there have been four jihadist attacks on domestic targets on Obama’s watch –at the recruiting center in Arkansas, Fort Hood, Detroit and now Times Square.

And still they have a policy in place to avoid using the word terrorism.

Was it wise for Steny Hoyer to bring this up?

REPORT: MULTIPLE ARRESTS IN PAKISTAN over NYC bomb attempt.

It’s the Jihad, Stupid! “If you were listening to Geraldo on Sunday night (okay, I apologize), you would have thought the would-be Times Square bomber was either the illegitimate son of Timothy McVeigh or an evangelical minister overdosed on steroids looking for an abortion clinic. Geraldo was practically fulminating at the mouth — it’s a white man, it’s a white man — in nostalgia for the good old days when the true enemy was some evil Ku Kluxer waving his hangman’s noose. Well, it wasn’t.”

LESSONS FROM BOSTON’S WATER-MAIN BREAK: “Here are valuable lessons on being prepared for the worst when the local water gets contaminated.”

COORDINATION? “Did Andy Stern leave SEIU to protect the Obama Administration from charges of coordinating protests in the streets of our nation?”

OUR MATURE, CARING LEADER: ABC News: “Three days after he decried the lack of civility in American politics, President Obama is quoted in a new book about his presidency referring to the Tea Party movement using a derogatory term with sexual connotations.”

UPDATE: Compare And Contrast.

GOING SHORT ON AMERICA: Congressional Hypocrites Were Betting Against Stocks As Country Collapsed.

The Gorgon’s Stare

The Washington Post reports that authorities are closing in on a US citizen of Pakistani extraction for questioning in connection with failed Times Square car bomb. And now, the NYT reports, they have him.

Authorities were closing in on a man who they said was a naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan, according to a senior Obama administration official. … Investigators and agents also were scouring international phone records showing calls “between some of the people who might be associated with this and folks overseas,” according to a U.S. official who has discussed the case with intelligence officers.

The growing evidence of terrorist connections in the Times Square case led the New York-based terrorism task force to become the lead agency in the investigation, which had been overseen by the New York Police Department, a senior U.S. law enforcement official said. That indicates that the failed bombing is being investigated as a terrorist incident with international connections, the official said.

FBI Supervisory Special Agent Richard Kolko of the New York field division said in a statement Monday night that the “FBI JTTF [Joint Terrorism Task Force] and NYPD are working this case jointly and have been since the beginning.” The New York police force, known for its expertise in terrorism matters, is represented on the task force and will remain heavily involved in the probe, officials said.

According to the New York Times, Faisal Shahzad was arrested at a New York-area airport “apparently trying to flee”. “Charges against Mr. Shahzad, who had returned recently from a trip to Pakistan, were not announced.” Shahzad was connected to the purchase of the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder which was parked in Times Square with a load of explosive.

Keith Johnson, writing in the Wall Street Journal, believes that even if links are found they are likely to be looser than those which bound the 9/11 attackers to al-Qaeda. The era of the superattack may now have been superseded by an emphasis on numerous smaller attacks, like a swarm.

“No one would think of New York as a soft target, with the world’s biggest police force, and some of the best counterterrorism units,” said Bruce Hoffman, a terrorism analyst at Georgetown University. “And yet, in the past few years, terrorists are continuously targeting New York, which shows there’s no such thing as complete security.” …

But not only are the threats getting more numerous, they are at least in the public mind, becoming more diffuse. Mentioned among the threats are “the Austin, Texas man who flew a small plane into the local office of the Internal Revenue Service in February, killing himself and one other person, and the March arrest of the Christian militia members in Michigan, who allegedly planned to murder U.S. law-enforcement officials.”

The “War on Terror”, if that word may still be used, is suddenly with everybody. Speculation about the identity of the perpetrators has run the gamut. Robert Dreyfuss writing in the Nation said “it seems far more likely to me that the perpetrator of the bungled Times Square bomb plot was either a lone nut job or a member of some squirrely branch of the Tea Party, anti-government far right.” Election Ink said that “Anonymous sources have reported that a suspect is currently being questioned in the Bridgeport / New Haven CT area. The suspect is a middle age white male, has a history of strong political views, and considers himself a Tea Party activist. An arrest is expected within days. In a strange twist, the suspect worked in the past as an informant with law enforcement agencies.”

Quotes from NY Magazine captured the wide range of thoughts going through the minds of public officials. Mayor Bloomberg said the motive “could be anything”. The White House actually managed to utter the “T” word though in this case it primarily meant “terrorize”.

Attorney General Eric Holder said investigators have some good leads, though he wouldn’t elaborate. Bloomberg told Katie Couric he thinks it could have been a domestic terrorist acting alone: “If I had to guess 25 cents, this would be exactly that. Homegrown, or maybe a mentally deranged person, or somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something. It could be anything.” Kelly said it is too early to tell if this was the act of an individual or a larger network. Whoever it was, the White House used the T-word to describe the bomber: “I would say that was intended to terrorize, and I would say that whomever did that would be categorized as a terrorist,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

America is a country with a considerable number of enemies nearly all of whom would sue it for defation should it mention their names. One of the fundamental problems with this investigation — and concerns over who is handling it — revolves around the problem of who the perpetrator will turn out to be. Unless it happens to be an alien from another dimension, an arrest will explode one of several cherished political world views. If the perpetrator turns out to be a Tea Party male that will be one thing; if it turns out to be an American of Pakistani origin, that will be another. Nobody will be happy. And being happy is the whole point of things today. As Lee Smith pointed out in his essay The Trouble With Proxy Wars, every action and perception is judged in the scales of “the political effects in Washington”. That balance beam drove actions in Iraq; it is driving actions in Afghanistan and to some extent, it will shape the direction of the Times Square investigation. Wars are no longer fought with victory on the battlefield in mind. Rather they are waged with victory in Washington as the foremost consideration. Smith writes:

How did this come to pass? How did it happen that adversaries like Iran and Syria are able to shape US strategy, so that we have failed to win in Iraq and will fail in Afghanistan and have deterred ourselves from taking action against the Iranian nuclear program, and have jammed up our strategic alliance with Israel? It is because American leadership of the last two administrations failed to act against those states that have attacked our troops, allies and interests. We did we not win in Iraq because states like Syria and Iran did not pay a price for the acts of force they used to shape political effects to their own advantage; when we failed to do so we abandoned our Middle East policy to the mercy of our enemies, who, as we are repeatedly told, can ruin Iraq and Afghanistan whenever they decide to take off their gloves. We did not win because our leadership, abetted by Washington policy intellectuals, is more interested in political effects in Washington than strategic victories in the Middle East. Seen in this light, the only American victory in the region is a pyrrhic one, the bitter harvest of which we may well be reaping for many years to come.

A wide range of actions is precluded because “we don’t want to go there”. Whether it is the question of retaliating against Syria or Iran, using the “T” or “TP” word, or questioning the legitimacy of certain religions and agendas, finding the solution becomes driven less by the facts than by allowable political space. Public policy freezes up when it comes face to face with what it cannot abide; the mighty Federal Bureaucracy turns into the stone at the first glimpse of the Gorgon’s Stare.

The jihadists’ deadly path to citizenship

America’s homeland security amnesia never ceases to amaze. In the aftermath of the botched Times Square terror attack over the weekend, Pakistani-born bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad’s U.S. citizenship status caused a bit of shock and awe. The Atlantic magazine writer Jeffrey Goldberg’s response was typical: “I am struck by the fact that he is a naturalized American citizen, not a recent or temporary visitor.” Well, wake up and smell the deadly deception.

Shahzad’s path to American citizenship — he reportedly married an American woman, Huma Mian, in 2008 after spending a decade in the country on foreign student and employment visas — is a tried-and-true terror formula. Jihadists have been gaming the sham marriage racket with impunity for years. And immigration benefit fraud has provided invaluable cover and aid for U.S.-based Islamic plotters, including many other operatives planning attacks on New York City. As I’ve reported previously:

– El Sayyid A. Nosair wed Karen Ann Mills Sweeney to avoid deportation for overstaying his visa. He acquired U.S. citizenship, allowing him to remain in the country, and was later convicted for conspiracy in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that claimed six lives.

– Ali Mohamed became an American citizen after marrying a woman he met on a plane trip from Egypt to New York. Recently divorced, Linda Lee Sanchez wed Mohamed in Reno, Nev., after a six-week “courtship.” Mohamed became a top aide to Osama bin Laden and was later convicted for his role in the 1998 United States embassy bombings in Africa that killed 12 Americans and more than 200 others.

– Embassy bombing plotter Khalid Abu al Dahab obtained citizenship after marrying three different American women.

– Embassy bombing plotter Wadih el Hage, Osama bin Laden’s personal secretary, married April Ray in 1985 and became a naturalized citizen in 1989. Ray knew of her husband’s employment with bin Laden, but like many of these women in bogus marriages, she pleaded ignorance about the nature of her husband’s work. El Hage, she says, was a sweet man, and bin Laden “was a great boss.”

– Lebanon-born Chawki Youssef Hammoud, convicted in a Hezbollah cigarette-smuggling operation based out of Charlotte, N.C., married American citizen Jessica Fortune for a green card to remain in the country.

– Hammoud’s brother, Mohammed Hammoud, married three different American women. After arriving in the United States on a counterfeit visa, being ordered deported and filing an appeal, he wed Sabina Edwards to gain a green card. Federal immigration officials refused to award him legal status after this first marriage was deemed bogus in 1994. Undaunted, he married Jessica Wedel in May 1997 and, while still wed to her, paid Angela Tsioumas (already married to someone else, too) to marry him in Detroit. The Tsioumas union netted Mohammed Hammoud temporary legal residence to operate the terror cash scam. He was later convicted on 16 counts that included providing material support to Hezbollah.

– A total of eight Middle Eastern men who plotted to bomb New York landmarks in 1993 — Fadil Abdelgani, Amir Abdelgani, Siddig Ibrahim Siddig Ali, Tarig Elhassan, Abdo Mohammed Haggag, Fares Khallafalla, Mohammed Saleh, and Matarawy Mohammed Said Saleh — all obtained legal permanent residence by marrying American citizens.

A year after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, homeland security officials cracked a massive illegal alien Middle Eastern marriage fraud ring in a sting dubbed “Operation Broken Vows.” Authorities were stunned by the scope of the operations, which stretched from Boston to South Carolina to California. But marriage fraud remains a treacherous path of least resistance. The waiting period for U.S. citizenship is cut by more than half for marriage visa beneficiaries. Sham marriage monitoring by backlogged homeland security investigators is practically nonexistent.

As former federal immigration official Michael Cutler warned years ago: “Immigration benefit fraud is certainly one of the major ‘dots’ that was not connected prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001, and remains a ‘dot’ that is not really being addressed the way it needs to be in order to secure our nation against criminals and terrorists who understand how important it is for them to ‘game’ the system as a part of the embedding process.”

Jihadists have knowingly and deliberately exploited our lax immigration and entrance policies to secure the rights and benefits of American citizenship while they plot mass murder — and we haven’t done a damned thing to stop them.

***

Related: Sen. Joe Lieberman proposes stripping citizenship from Americans who join foreign terrorist organizations:

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is planning to introduce a bill that would allow the government to take away citizenship from Americans who join foreign terrorist organizations.

The proposal would amend current law that bars American citizens from fighting for foreign armies at the price of losing their citizenship.

“I think it’s time for us to look at whether we want to amend that law to apply it to American citizens who choose to become affiliated with foreign terrorist organizations, whether they should not also be deprived automatically of their citizenship and therefore be deprived of rights that come with that citizenship when they are apprehended and charged with a terrorist act,” Lieberman, who helms the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said on Fox News.

But perhaps DHS and the State Department should concentrate on the homeland security front door — making sure jihadis don’t get citizenship and other immigration/entrance benefits in the first place — instead of waiting to deal with it on the back end after the fact.

Remember what I have told you all along, regarding More Terror?

"Not a matter of 'if,' but when..."

“White House in P.R. ‘panic’ over spill.” “They can’t pontificate about Bush and Katrina anymore. Wouldn’t it be amazing if Obama were to empathize with Bush’s predicament? That would change the tenor of political discourse in Washington.”

“Drilling expansion dead in US Congress -Sen Nelson”

Shocker!

Plans by U.S. President Barack Obama to expand oil drilling off the eastern coast of the United States are “dead on arrival” in Congress after the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Democratic Senator Bill Nelson said on Tuesday. Nelson, of Florida, made the prediction to reporters at a new conference where he and two other anti-drilling Democratic senators also called for a huge increase in the cap on oil-company liability related to environmental disasters.

Of course, it makes no difference that the EPA has been closely working with environmental groups and the oil industry to prevent environmental catastrophes and develop plans of action in the cases of spills like this one — and that in the 40 years or so of its existence, the agency still hasn’t come up with a workable contingency plan. In short, they’ve failed miserably.

So. As long as we’re talking about a “huge” cap increase on oil company liability, howsabout we discuss a concomitant huge decrease in the amount of taxpayer money that goes to fund agencies that have proven completely incapable of fulfilling their ostensible mandates?

Yeah, that’s what I thought.

The fact that I’ve even suggested such a thing proves that I’m both anti-science and racist. And that I’m probably one of those strange anti-government creatures the President says likes to dunk his balls into the eager mouths of my fellow hicktard bitter clingers.

I should be ashamed.

Shocking Report

The following report is enough to give any AGW "denier" reason to step back and reconsider:

There are also worrisome reports of significant temperature increases, with anomalies of several degrees. Also in the report is the mention of ice free open sea of almost 2 million square kilometers, which is termed as “unprecendented in the history of the Arctic”.

It is shocking to read. I urge readers to have a look at some of the excerpts I’ve posted. You can view the entire book here at archive.org

Katrina Recovery Stalled – Under Nagin!

May 4th, 2010

From a suddenly blame-shifting Associated Press:

Data show New Orleans recovery stalled under Nagin

By CAIN BURDEAU (AP)

May 3, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — As Mayor Ray Nagin leaves office, hundreds of damaged city buildings including police stations and fire houses sit unrepaired more than four years after Hurricane Katrina, stark reminders of how the recovery has floundered.

Only seven percent of 283 city-owned structures slated to be rebuilt have been completed or are under construction, according to an analysis by The Associated Press. Those figures back up an impression many residents have had for more than a year — the Nagin administration has failed to renew much of New Orleans.

"New Orleans has struggled with a vision from the very beginning of the disaster," said Drew Sachs, vice president of James Lee Witt Associates, a consulting firm that has worked extensively on Louisiana’s hurricane recovery.

Besides missteps by the Nagin administration, rebuilding has been complicated because of the extent of damage, FEMA’s paralyzing bureaucracy as well as loss of population, which has hurt revenues and made it hard for city officials to determine where to put its limited resources.

The city lags both urban and rural neighbors hit hard by the catastrophic 2005 storm, according to rebuilding figures provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. For instance, 87 percent of St. Bernard Parish’s government buildings are under construction or have been reopened and 55 percent of Plaquemines Parish’s government buildings are rebuilt or are at least close to being finished

The FEMA data shows that New Orleans has 283 buildings to fix, while St. Bernard has 190 and Plaquemines 222.

Nagin said the city made a remarkable comeback under his watch.

"We have 80 percent of our population back, young people moving in, an economy with the lowest unemployment rate, public housing being totally transformed, riverfront development, street work," Nagin said. "At the end of the day, the proof is in the pudding: Five years ago, you had a city that was totally empty, totally dark, 80 percent damaged; today, look at our statistics and I rest on that."

As for public infrastructure, the Nagin administration is adamant that it has done a good job and that FEMA — not city officials — are largely to blame

Nagin will be replaced by Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu on Monday. Landrieu has made speeding up the recovery a priority during his transition.

Throughout the city, neighborhoods are still waiting for buildings and services to bounce back…

Gee, why all of a sudden is Mr. Nagin being blamed by the Associated Press? Meanwhile, Mr. Obama’s name does not appear anywhere in this entire article.

Hasn’t Mr. Obama been President for a year and a half? Didn’t he solemnly pledge to make New Orleans whole? Does Mr. Obama hate black people?

–What are we saying?

Of course our watchdog media would never think to blame a US President for such a local problem.

Desperately Avoiding Katrina

The Politico is reporting that the Obama administration is in something of a "P.R. panic" about the British Petroleum rig explosion and subsequent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Signs of that panic were made open today when Robert Gibbs singled out Fox News' Wendell Goler to make the point that his network (Fox) had the temerity to let Michael Brown make inflammatory statements on Neil Cavuto's show. Brown accused the Obama administration of letting the Federal disaster response linger so that the increased damage would give the Obama administration an excuse to ban permanently off shore drilling. I don't believe Brown's speculation, but Gibbs took the bait and made himself look stupid (again).

Gibbs, responding to an oil spill query from Goler, called the network out for failing to challenge Brown, now a conservative Colorado radio host.

"I watched Fox yesterday -- you open both the double doors -- and waaah! -- Here I am," said Gibbs.

As Goler tried to calm Gibbs down, the press secretary began talking about "the special and unique interview with Michael Brown, who for those who weren't let in on the big secret... intimated on Fox -- and it wasn't, didn't appear to be, pushed back on real hard -- that this spill was leaked on purpose in order for us to undo decisions."

"You should call headquarters," he told Goler, and talk to "whoever makes the decision to put people like that on."

Has Gibbs ever offered that advice to any other network? Olberman? Maddow? Nevermind. Matthews? But about the public relations panic that is allegedly consuming the White House, Glenn Thrush at Politico offers this:

Hope and change was Obama's headline message in 2008, but those atop his campaign have always said that it was Obama's cool competence -- exemplified by his level-headed handling of the financial meltdown during the campaign's waning days -- that sealed the deal with independents and skeptical Democrats. The promise of rational, responsive and efficient government is Obama's brand, his justification for bigger and bolder federal interventions and, ultimately, his rationale for a second term.

So there was a "little bit of panic," according to one administration official, when White House aides sensed the oil spill narrative getting away from them last week. The White House was particularly alarmed by the rash of stories comparing the Obama administration's initial response with President George W. Bush's sluggish response in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Katrina was one of the first issues Obama seized upon after his election to the Senate in 2004 -- and he made a highly publicized visit to New Orleans during the campaign, using the Bush administration response as a metaphor for incompetent and uncaring government.

... Dana Perino, the last White House press secretary under Bush, even sounded sympathetic to Obama's plight. "I don't think this is comparable to Katrina," she said. "But ... they are learning just how hard it is to get situational awareness during a crisis. ... Things are going to overtake them. They are learning this right now."

A timeline of the White House response shows the difficulty federal officials initially had getting a clear picture of the disaster.

The Obama administration should be thankful that they are getting their information from BP and not a Ray Nagin or Kathleen Blanco. But I think the White House is also concerned about failures in the federal response infrastructure such as this:

If U.S. officials had followed up on a 1994 response plan for a major Gulf oil spill, it is possible that the spill could have been kept under control and far from land.

The problem: The federal government did not have a single fire boom on hand.

The "In-Situ Burn" plan produced by federal agencies in 1994 calls for responding to a major oil spill in the Gulf with the immediate use of fire booms.

But in order to conduct a successful test burn eight days after the Deepwater Horizon well began releasing massive amounts of oil into the Gulf, officials had to purchase one from a company in Illinois.

When federal officials called, Elastec/American Marine, shipped the only boom it had in stock, Jeff Bohleber, chief financial officer for Elastec, said today.

At federal officials' behest, the company began calling customers in other countries and asking if the U.S. government could borrow their fire booms for a few days, he said.

A single fire boom being towed by two boats can burn up to 1,800 barrels of oil an hour, Bohleber said. That translates to 75,000 gallons an hour, raising the possibility that the spill could have been contained at the accident scene 100 miles from shore.

"They said this was the tool of last resort. No, this is absolutely the asset of first use. Get in there and start burning oil before the spill gets out of hand," Bohleber said. "If they had six or seven of these systems in place when this happened and got out there and started burning, it would have significantly lessened the amount of oil that got loose."

In the days after the rig sank, U.S Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry said the government had all the assets it needed. She did not discuss why officials waited more than a week to conduct a test burn.

This is the sort of criticism that speaks to competency and the Obama administration knows this which is why the mere mention of a name like Michael Brown sets the Obama message machine into overdrive. Criticism of President Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina was Senator Obama's signature issue in his run up to the campaign for the White House. Now that President Obama is encountering the inherent limits and failures of a federal bureaucracy to disasters that occur on his own watch his administration is on defense instead of offense.

Cold hard reality crashes into all 7 of Jennifer Brunner's paid supporters. Somewhere, Darth Soros is angry. VERY ANGRY.

Dear HillBuzz,

My name is Patricia Melton and I am the President-for-Life of the Mineral City Coffee Club, the foremost Coffee Club of not just central Ohio, or even Tuscarawas County, but the entire state. Everywhere that matters, anyway.  Like anybody wants to go to Youngstown that doesn’t have to. Please.

I’m reporting live tonight from the scene of Secretary of Fraud Jennifer Brunner’s ignoble defeat, here in Columbus, Ohio,

"...keep your eye on the Democrat primary results in Ohio today, and post them when you see them.

Jennifer Brunner is the Leftist, Soros-installed Secretary of State in Ohio.  She is a devoted high priestess of the Cult of Obama.  Voters in Ohio know a vote for her in this primary is a vote of support for the current White House and the Socialist-Democrat majority in the Senate.

If she loses today, and is not selected as the Democrat nominee for the Senate, then it’s more refutation of the current president’s radical agenda."

This is one hell of an eye opening article by Robert Weissburg over at the American Thinker.

This phrase jumped out at me and smacked me in the face.

I finally realized that the Obama administration and its congressional collaborators almost resemble a foreign occupying force, a coterie of politically and culturally non-indigenous leaders whose rule contravenes local values rooted in our national tradition. It is as if the United States has been occupied by a foreign power, and this transcends policy objections.

Great article, best to read it all.

Jim Geraghty was tasked by his editors to figure out how many Democratic seats were vulnerable this year.

Over ninety, which he rounds up to 99.

Once you add up the upcoming special elections, the open-seat races, and the races where there’s some indicator of trouble for a Democratic opponent — a particularly strong challenger, favorable district demographics, surprising fundraising numbers, a particularly weak Democratic incumbent, or a combination of these factors — you come up with more than 90 House races. If the GOP wins only half the seats listed below, they win back the House.

The term "tea-bagger" is like uttering the "N" word, some say. Though he aspires to promote civility, evidence has surfaced that President Obama has added "tea-bagger" to his public lexicon, though it's considered a cheap and tawdry insult by "tea party" activists.

Watchdogs at Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) barked when they saw the proof, tucked in a sneak peak of Newsweek columnist Jonathan Alter's new book, "The Promise: President Obama, Year One," to be released May 18.

"This remark is the equivalent of using the 'n' word. It shows contempt for middle America, expressed knowingly, contemptuously, on purpose, and with a smirk. It is indefensible to use this word. The president knows what it means, and his people know what it means.

The public thought we reached a new low of incivility during the Clinton administration. Well, the Obama administration has just outdone them,"

This stands in stark contrast with media treatment of those who refuse to embrace the left-wing, America-bullies-world, dissenters-are-racist, pro-amnesty, gay-marriage-is-a-right, pro-Roe worldview.

ODSD is pandemic. Here are just a few cases.

When the economy recovered under President George W. Bush, the major media pronounced it a "jobless recovery." Now, despite unemployment stalled at 9.7% for several months, the same media call it a "surprising" or "unexpected" recovery.

Obama urged passage of an $800 billion "stimulus" package to prevent unemployment from reaching 8%. Post-stimulus passage, unemployment reached 10%. Consider how the media would have treated Bush had he given varying predictions about, and then varying accounts of, the number of jobs supposedly "created or saved" — a laughably unprovable yardstick.

Obama brazenly claims that under his policies, 95% of "working Americans" received a "tax cut." But nearly half of American workers pay absolutely nothing in income taxes. And after exemptions, tax credits and other deductions, the Obama tax cut even exceeded many workers' payroll taxes. How does a check, given to someone who pays little or no taxes, become a "tax cut"?

The Boondocks Take On the Race-Voting Black Community

The black community is, bar none, the absolute most racist demographic in this country.

If you are black, they will vote for you.  If you aren’t black, no matter how good a candidate you are, if you are up against any random black person, even if plucked from the phone book, blacks will just vote for whomever looks most like them. And if you beat a black person at anything, fair and square, brace yourself for the Al Sharpton/Henry Gates/Jesse Jackson wailing and screaming brigade, always prepped to reward and foster mendacity under the banner of affirmative action.

See: Election 2008.

My My…. how tides turn. Confronting black racism! It’s about f-ing time. After spending the past 7 yrs as a casino dealer in Reno NV I finally know what real racism is. It’s not those tacty jokes that my parents and their friends used to tell that included a whole array of derogatory words referring to black people. Racism is being told to ones face that “i’m gonna kill your white ass if u don’t give my money back.” Or having a gang of brothers and sisters lying, blanantly lying, to defended a brothers false accusation… Just so the cracker gets in trouble. Maybe black people aren’t all racists but there sure is a whole lot of hostility in their hearts against white folk. (and non-black people)

Dems use deficit commission to push for amnesty [latest stalking horse]

I’ve repeatedly predicted that the National Commission on Financial Responsibility and Reform (NCFRR) would serve mainly as a Trojan horse for massive, broad tax hikes. Who knew that the so-called “deficit commission” would also become a stalking horse for … immigration reform? The Hill reports on the latest Democratic mission statement from the NCFRR:

Democrats want immigration reform on the table as the White House fiscal commission examines ways to reduce deficits, saying there is a “credible connection” between the issue and the country’s fiscal situation.

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President Andy Stern and Rep. Xavier Becerra (Calif.), both Democrats on the bipartisan fiscal commission, said reforms giving the 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States a chance to stay in the U.S. legally could boost the economy and thereby help pay down the debt.

Uh, sure. Why not add amnesty to a debate over tax hikes and spending cuts? May as well toss religion and sports into the mix as well. Republicans responded with well-tempered disbelief:

10 cans amidst all the can’t thinking

The Gulf Coast states did not need another disaster to deal with, but the bad news just keeps on coming. People were killed when the British Petroleum oil platform exploded, along with what will be the worst oil spill in history.

As we hear the news each day about the difficulty in stopping the spread of the oil spill in the Gulf, and the impending dangers to wildlife, fisheries, businesses and the coastal states, we become more and more frustrated because there is nothing most of us can do individually to help the situation.

We can only pray for the people and agencies trying to remedy the situation, that they will have the resolve and resources to stop the spread of the impact of this disaster.

Consistent bad news leads to a bad attitude, lack of confidence and, eventually, failure. Just ask any high achiever in business, sports or any endeavor of life.

Since the summer of 2008, we have been fed a constant diet of more and more bad news about the economy, the credit crisis, the housing crisis, the recession, political scandals, a dysfunctional federal government, crooked politicians, crooked lenders, crooked borrowers and crooked executives.

We are constantly being reminded that it is going to take time to fix these problems, and that there are no quick fix solutions. We know that, but the Obama Administration and Congress continue to believe that they can spend us out of these problems. They can’t. The math does not work.

The president’s campaign promises about transparency, bipartisanship and no earmarks in legislation have been broken. And as the mainstream media looks the other way and tries to rationalize the broken promises, the informed voters get more and more frustrated, while the uninformed voters stay stuck on stupid.

Many voters are frustrated with both the Democrats and the Republicans in Congress, because they have failed to fix the real problems, as they continue to ignore lessons from history and the voting public.

As a result, many people are losing hope.

Last week President Obama issued a challenge to his supporters to help him re-elect Democrats to Congress so he can continue to “deliver on the promise of change, hope and prosperity.” I shared that with the listeners and asked them to share their feelings and opinions about change, hope and prosperity.

Only one caller out of about 20 thought the president was doing a wonderful job delivering change, hope and prosperity. But before I could ask him why he felt that way, he hung up. The other 19 callers totally disagreed and stayed on and gave reasons as to why, which we talk about nearly every night on the show.

The response by a 29-year-old first-time caller summed it up when she said, “This change is killing my hope for prosperity.”

I have not lost hope, because there are things we can do to capture the change people were hoping for but are not getting. We have our voices, our votes and our valuables (time and money) to work with.

For those that are losing hope I offer these “Ten Cans”:

You CAN have a dream, without knowing how to get there. You CAN have a life, just start somewhere. You CAN make a difference, one person at a time. You CAN make things happen, don’t expect a straight line.

You CAN be happy, if you have a hope inside. You CAN have love in your life, but look beyond the outside

You CAN solve your problems, but FIRST, count your blessings. You CAN find the strength, like an eagle, waiting, and resting.

You CAN make this a better world, but life is just a minute. God CAN lead you through it, if all your heart is in it. – The Hermanator

Despite all the bad news, there is hope if we do what we CAN do.

Thus far, Deepwater Horizon has leaked about three million gallons.

More historical perspective on the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico can be found here at the ITOPF website.

The best estimate I can come up with suggests the current spill is around 700 tonnes a day (based* on the current official 5000 barrels/day estimate) - but if someone has a more accurate figure than that, drop it in the comments and I'll update.

This post notes that at first the "out liberals" (those not in the closet, like Matthews) first tried to blame the Times Square bomb on the "right-wing."

Now that it's known, as could easily have been guessed, to have been an Islamized immigrant, they have a new slam against the "right-wing" -- that we will indulge in an orgy of racist retribution for the act.

That's beautiful. They can't lose. First we're blamed for doing it in the first place. If that doesn't pan out, there's always Plan B -- blame us for an overreaction to the event and claim that that overreaction is in fact worse than the crime that provoked it.

An overreaction, incidentally, that never actually comes. Even after 9/11, there were only three or four acts of documented anti-Muslim violence in the entire 300-million-strong country.

Plan A: The right did it.

Plan B: Okay, the right didn't do it, per se, but now the right is going to go on a murderous racist crime-spree in reaction to it.

Every time. Ev-er-y time.

Either we're responsible for the crime itself or we're responsible for worse crimes (in this telling), becoming accessories-to-chaos-after-the-fact.

Either way, we're always guilty. Of something.

Very true.

SPINNING TIMES SQUARE:

It is fascinating to see how the authorities and the major media outlets avoid the words “Islam” and “Muslim” in connection to the failed Times Square bombing. In both this piece in Time and in this piece in the New York Times the word “Islam” is only used in the name of the city of Islamabad in Pakistan.

The Times uses the word “Muslim” once: “At his news conference, Mr. Bloomberg warned against any backlash against Pakistanis or Muslims in New York, saying, ‘We will not tolerate any bias.’”

The authorities — Holder, Napolitano, New York Police Commissioner Kelly — also avoided the words Islam and Muslim at their press conference. They spoke about “terrorism” but didn’t define the term.

So what kind of terrorist is Faisal Shahzad if he cannot be called a Muslim or an Islamic terrorist?

Surely there must be some way to connect him to those damn Teabaggers!

GOVERNMENT REGULATORS GAVE BP A PASS: “The Interior Department exempted BP’s calamitous Gulf of Mexico drilling operation from a detailed environmental-impact analysis last year, according to government documents, after three reviews of the area concluded that a massive oil spill was unlikely.”

I had linked the original WaPo version of this below, but, strangely, that link now goes to a completely different story. So here it is again. Thanks to reader Joseph Nunke for pointing out this odd behavior at the Post, and for sending the new link. The Bringer of Death

10ways-thumb.jpg

And now, Number 11: "BP Oil Platform Spill Disaster is CHENEY'S Fault"

I kid you not. It didn't take long, did it?

The First Post (UK): "Halliburton implicated in BP's Deepwater oil spill"

The Guardian: "Dick Cheney and the oil spill"

Salon.com: "Who's to blame for the oil spill? Dick Cheney"

A week ago, the Wall Street Journal published a fair analysis of the safety mechanisms aboard the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, leading off the article with the fact that rig did not have a remote backup "acoustic switch" shutoff mechanism installed on the wellhead. And Halliburton Co., the biggest provider of oilfield services in the US, was responsible for cementing Deepwater Horizon's drilling hole, a process that involves pumping cement into the sheathing around the over-large drilling hole in order to seal the space between the hole and the wellhead pipe.

So, according to the loony left, Halliburton is solely responsible for the Deepwater Horizon blowout because 1) they are evil, and 2) a drilling platform off the coast of Australia that Halliburton also cemented experienced a blowout last August. What more proof do we need? Also, Dick Cheney's secret diabolical "energy task force" that met -- in secret!! -- during Chimpy McHitler's first Reich Regime term obviously decided to eliminate all of the offshore drilling platform safety features that they could get away with, just so his Big Oil schmoozing buddies could get bigger payday bonuses. Ah, yes ... it all makes perfect sense now.

__________________________

Two more related stories that should be getting loads of attention from every network and major newspaper, but that sadly do not fit the preferred narrative:

Washington Post: "U.S. exempted BP's Gulf of Mexico drilling from environmental impact study"

The Interior Department exempted BP's calamitous Gulf of Mexico drilling operation from a detailed environmental impact analysis last year, according to government documents, after three reviews of the area concluded that a massive oil spill was unlikely.

The decision by the department's Minerals Management Service (MMS) to give BP's lease at Deepwater Horizon a "categorical exclusion" from the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) on April 6, 2009 -- and BP's lobbying efforts just 11 days before the explosion to expand those exemptions -- show that neither federal regulators nor the company anticipated an accident of the scale of the one unfolding in the gulf.

The Politico: "Obama Biggest Recipient of BP Cash"

While the BP oil geyser pumps millions of gallons of petroleum into the Gulf of Mexico, President Barack Obama and members of Congress may have to answer for the millions in campaign contributions they've taken from the oil and gas giant over the years.

BP and its employees have given more than $3.5 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with the largest chunk of their money going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics ... During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.

This shouldn't surprise anyone who has been paying attention for the last two and a half years.

The Obama Administration and the United Nations Security Council pushed legislation to strip Israel of nuclear weapons.
The Jerusalem Post reported:

The five permanent members of the UN Security Council said they support a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East, according to a unanimous statement circulated during a conference aimed at strengthening nonproliferation.

Without mentioning Israel by name, the group voiced support for the “full implementation” of a 1995 resolution intended to free the Middle East from nuclear arms. “We are committed to a full implemented of the 1995 NPT resolution on the Middle East and we support all ongoing efforts to this end,” the statement read. “We are ready to consider all relevant proposals in the course of the Review Conference in order to come to an agreed decision aimed at taking concrete steps in this direction.”

The statement also stressed “serious concern” over the Iranian nuclear program and urged all countries to sign and adhere the 1970 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Three countries are not party to the NPT, including India, Pakistan and Israel, which is widely believed to possess a nuclear arsenal. “We urge those state that are not parties to the treaty to accede as non-nuclear-weapon states and pending accession to the NPT, to adhere to its terms,” the five countries wrote.

Coming on the third day of a month-long NPT review conference, the statement spoke to competing interests: The US came into the conference pushing for tough measures against Iran, while in speeches the Arab states have increasingly focused on Israel’s presumed nuclear arms and their desire for Israel to sign the NPT as a non-nuclear weapon state.

Myths of the ‘Smart’ Grid?

by m ( 109 Comments › )
Filed under Technology at May 5th, 2010 - 9:00 pm

Our very own “snork” has an article published at Pajamas Media today entitled
Myths Associated with the ‘Smart’ Electrical Grid. It is a very detailed article that tries to dispel the myths and inaccuracies that are all over the internet concerning the American Power Grid.

Sit back, relax… and get yer learnin on =)

Much has been written in the popular media and blogosphere in the past decade about the electrical power grid, some of it good, much of it bad, much of it downright silly, and almost all of it incomplete.

This article tries to change that and educate us on the truth of the matter. There will be a test.

Good luck!

Meanwhile China, India, and Russia have no qualms about building nukes, or mining or drilling. Be more foreign countries drilling in the Gulf than Americans after Obama and Rahm get done “NOT WASTING THIS CRISIS.”

We need something, anything for Obama to get impeached as I am beginning to think we cannot take 4 years of this guy. Biden would at least be stupid about destroying us. We can maybe survive stupid, we cannot survive malevolent.

You are observant. Ever notice the faces of drivers when you are in the city? The typeset of people and their construed appearances are quite depressing, most look like herd members.

John D. McDonald ( a very underrated writer who stuck with the knight errant/detective genre ) once described the river of cars at rush hour as
"Chariots into Purgatory..."

It reminds me of when I reluctantly visit that Island I grew up on, whose motto is ( dripping irony )

"Where the racing pace fades
and the Good Life begins."

There were 3,000-3,500 souls there when I was a kid- now, according to unofficial sources ( meter connections ) somewhere between 16,000 and 18,000 are jammed into The Good Life, the traffic is as bad as any city ( actually worse, because as Roger Parsons observed, "they don't get out of your way." ) and every time I got there nowadays, I mutter

"Chariots into Purgatory..."

Gates Fires At Carriers, Subs, EFV

"I thought Gates was an honorable man......"

I never thought he was an honorable man from the minute I saw he stayed on when the Obama regime came into power....and I so posted right on this forum.

If he didn't know that Obama was an evil imposter from the evidence during the campaign and, indeed, the Usurper's history (or lack of it) then Gates is too stupid or too twisted himself to hold the critical position he occupies.

Everyone in a position of power who surrounds Obama and does his bidding is just as evil as he. Honorable people would have no connection to this amoral communist AT ALL.

Violent Movie Declares War on Arizona for Immigration Law

A violent new film from cult director Robert Rodriguez is declaring war on Arizona with a "special Cinco De Mayo message" in the wake of the state's controversial illegal immigration law.

That message is: "They just f---ed with the wrong Mexican."

"Machete," which features a knife-wielding Mexican assassin out for revenge against double-crossing gringos, won't be in theaters until September, but it is already sparking a political melee over Wednesday's stab at the Grand Canyon State.

In the trailer for the film, the title character is hired to assassinate an anti-immigration U.S. senator played by Robert De Niro. Protesters are seen waving nationalist signs as the senator speaks to a charged-up rally: "We are at war," he booms. "Every time an illegal dances across our border, it is an act of aggression against this sovereign state — an overt act of terrorism."

But before the trailer even begins, the battle-scarred title character stares out from the screen as he tells viewers that what's about to unfold — an immigration-laced slasher grindhouse flick — is about the current border battle in Arizona.

Does anyone know if she's got a younger brother?

Alert tee-shirt vendors and the NYPD can’t be everywhere.

The Department of Homeland Security’s best strategy for keeping Americans safe should not be to “hope Muslims’ bombs fail” or depend upon alert civilians to spot smoke coming from cars or people’s underpants.

Since Muslims are just about the only group of people currently trying to kill Americans, perhaps a security policy at airports should be directed towards preventing Muslims from murdering people.

Read more in Ann Coulter’s latest column.

Now, for just a moment, appreciate the Bizarroworld we currently live in:

(1) We are gay guys in Boystown who, until 2008, detested Ann Coulter

(2) We are now reading Ann Coulter

(3) We agree with every damn word Ann Coulter says

(4) Sometimes, we think we’ve actually moved to the right of Ann Coulter

It’s Change we might not be able to believe in, but change the current DNC and White House forced upon on.

As much as the Left loves attacking us, and PUMAs in general who never drank the Kool-Aid, we are canaries in the national coal mine.  Dismiss us if you want, but we’ve never just been Hillary guys who didn’t like Obama because he got the nomination and our champ didn’t.

This has always been about the fact that the Democrat Party changed — not us.  We’re still the same guys we always were, except that our eyes opened to the lies the DNC always sold us about Republicans and conservatives in general.

Under the Clinton DNC, the Jacksonian Democrat Party, there was a place for naturally conservative moderates like us, who love America more than life itself, and want this country to be safe and secure with sound financial policies that ensure our prosperity.

The current Socialist-Democrat party has no moderates.  It is 100% lefty, baby.  And its PC-policies towards Muslims — those misunderstood murdering Care Bears — are going to get an awful lot of people killed, once the Religion of Peace stops sending its B-team to blow things up and dispatches operatives who know how to work clocks and who can successfully light their underoos and diapers on fire.

The DNC has no idea the damage it has done to itself.

We bet a lot of you, especially the conservatives who found us through Rush, Dennis Miller, Lucianne, or others, also don’t appreciate what’s happening here.

If the DNC has permanently alienated guys like us — who never in their lives thought they’d be reading and agreeing with Ann Coulter — then the Democrat Party is as good as Whig already.

We now love Coulter so much, she just might make us straight.

Just call us undocumented workers in Bizarroworld.

Ok, is the world about to end? When I read your heading for this thread I almost fell through the floor. Ann Coulter. One of the ladies (along with Malkin, Palin, and Bachmann) that are marked as the most hated women in America…. and you agree with her!

We have only a very limited knowledge of financial markets.

One of us used to date a guy who was a dairy trader named Ryan, but he lost his job (and the shirt off his back…foreshadowing) when his firm downsized, and he’s a go-go dancer now, so we consider any market info we gleaned from him to be highly suspect.  He did know all about all the various kinds of cows, though, and not ironically enough, g-strings too.

Drudge has a giant headline about the market tanking as we speak…and we don’t know if it’s related to the massive problems in Europe, which seems to be imploding financially.

At moments like this, we wonder two things:

(1) where George Soros is, and whether he’s sitting on his big black leather throne in a hollowed out dormant volcano, laughing maniacally

(2) why the Hell Mossad doesn’t just man-up and do the job the CIA, MI5, KGB-remnant, and other supposed-badasses for whatever reason just won’t do:  which is, to be blunt, put a stop to item (1) above

We live in a world with a real life Goldfinger/Blofeld hybrid, but no James Bond to stop him. It remains our greatest earthly wish someday a Jaimie Bondskawitz is recruiting into Mossad to remedy that.

In the meantime, anyone out there with financial and market know-how better than the second-hand dairy trading tidbits we possess please chime in on what’s happening.

What’s going on?

Who’s responsible?

Is it really Soros in action again?

What ramifications will this have?

Embiggen our knowledge, post-haste.

The world is moving from the Industrial Age into the Information Age Everything must change; there is no escape. In the 70′s and 80′s the private sector was hit by an avalanche of change. Massive slow-moving companies had to become lean and adaptable, or die. Many did die. Remember “Rust Belt?”

Government has not changed. Worse, as it has lost it’s natural “eco-system” of Industrial Age culture, it has become cancerous, growing much faster than the economy or the population. We see the same thing all over the developed world. Greece, California, San Francisco, America, … it’s really the same story. Catastrophic levels of debt, evr-growing. It is the same in many quasi-governmental entities: Universities, big science, GM, SEIU. All have turned cancerous. All seem out of the control of the citizenry. Out of touch. Parasitical.

The challenge for our time is to transform government into some shape and size that works in the Information Age. Or we will be eaten by the cancer, just like Greece has been.

If there was one thing I could tell Sarah, it would be that this is her real issue, beneath all the surface issues. This is her time to lead.

From reader Chris M:

Michelle,

As a resident of Middle Tennessee, I have seen the devastation up close and personal. The clean-up has just begun and will last for many months.

I also wanted to point out another way to help. The Local NBC affiliate is having a telethon TONIGHT featuring Vince Gill. My employer, Deloitte, will be offering up its call center and volunteers to man the phones and take pledges to assist those in need here in Nashville. For those interested, the telethon will be streaming live on the Internet.

Thanks.

Via vincegill.com:

FLOOD RELIEF WITH VINCE GILL & FRIENDS

05/05/10

WSMV-TV Channel 4 will broadcast Working 4 You: Flood Relief with Vince Gill & Friends on Thursday, May 6, in prime time from 7 to 10 p.m. The telethon will also be streamed live on WSMV.com.

Nashville and the surrounding middle Tennessee communities have been devastated by floodwaters after the area received 15 inches of rain within a 48-hour time period. Thousands of middle Tennesseans have been evacuated from their homes with many losing everything to the flood. Many of the victims do not have flood insurance, and the demands on relief agencies are stretched to the limit.

“These are our friends and family; we always take care of our friends and family,” said Meredith Senior Vice President and WSMV-TV General Manager Elden Hale Jr. “It’s unfortunate that we’re called upon to do this again for our neighbors, but we are very proud to have the ability to reach out to so many people with Nashville’s flood relief telethon.”

All proceeds from Working 4 You: Flood Relief with Vince Gill & Friends will benefit The Salvation Army, The Red Cross and The Second Harvest Food Bank.

Others involved include Naomi Judd, Phil Vassar and Bo Bice.

Yeah, the press/hollyweird don't care about nashville because there is a deficit of WACCP (Whiny-Assed Complaining Colored People) to wring their hands over and that unlike libutard hellholes like N'Awlins, normal folks just roll up their sleeves and DEAL WITH IT without waiting for fat ol' slobutard Uncle Sam to do it for 'em.

Oh, and because the Chosen One is in His Holy Office and that if the Blessed Lightworker Barack had wanted to spare those people, He would have with a wave of His Hand. But He hates hillbillies and other white folk, so The Chosen One has cast them into the waters.

252 Thanks for posting this video, I live in TN and that video shows more coverage of the flood than I have seen in 5 days from the state controlled media, if you have any doubt that Katrina was nothing more than a propaganda campaign against BOOOSH this is your proof.

293

Thanks for posting the video.  It breaks my heart to see all the devastation in my beloved Nashville.  BTW, Nashville isn't just country music; the Southern Rock and Indi bands are making huge strides in TN.

Ace, I want your readers to know that not only was Nashville communities hit by flooding, 52 counties (of 95) have been declared a disaster!  Homes, businesses, roads/bridges, enitre neighborhoods desimated.  In Dyersburg (Northwest TN) nearly 300 families are flooded; they have lost everything.  In Jackson roads gave way and swallowed cars and chunks of asphalt moved across the streets.  Reports of 17 inches of rain fell in Brownsville.  It is so sad.

The good people of Tennessee are out in droves; neighbors helping neighbors.  It's who we are.  It's what we've always done!

TN Mom

289 Let's say what we all know.

No Negroes wailing and crying about how they were left to die.

No story.

The MSM is racist.

If Blacks had some dog in this hunt, AKA, a white president, they would be all over this.

A Black president is AWOL on this, 29 dead already, and the MSM is AWOL also.

We see nothing.

Where are Jesse and Al?  Where are the helicopter pictures?

295 The elites in this country loathe the Midwest and see us as nothing but a bunch of hayseed hicks.

For all intents and purposes, this country has plunged into a what I would call a "cold" civil war.

This happened a year ago in Georgia. Massive flooding and the media was preoccupied with everything else but the devastation in Georgia.

It came from last nights thread.  Rush reads Ace, or Bo does.

4

hey guys

this past weekend we had a little flood here in middle tennessee, just killed 20 people, 10 in Nashville alone. anyway this local writer tells  how it is

We are Nashville.

Allow me a moment to step away from the usual voice of this website.

What I am about to write has absolutely nothing to do with hockey.

If you live outside of Nashville, you may not be aware, but our city was hit by a 500-year flood over the last few days. The national news coverage gave us 15 minutes, but went back to focusing on a failed car bomb and an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. While both are clearly important stories, was that any reason to ignore our story? It may not be as terror-sexy as a failed car bomb or as eco-sexy as an oil spill, but that’s no reason to be ignored.

The Cumberland River crested at its highest level in over 80 years. Nashville had its highest rainfall totals since records began. People drowned. Billions of dollars in damage occurred. It is the single largest disaster to hit Middle Tennessee since the Civil War. And yet…no one knows about it.

Does it really matter? Eventually, it will…as I mentioned, there are billions of dollars in damage. It seems bizarre that no one seems to be aware that we just experienced what is quite possibly the costliest non-hurricane disaster in American history. The funds to rebuild will have to come from somewhere, which is why people need to know. It’s hard to believe that we will receive much relief if there isn’t a perception that we need it.

But let’s look at the other side of the coin for a moment. A large part of the reason that we are being ignored is because of who we are. Think about that for just a second. Did you hear about looting? Did you hear about crime sprees? No…you didn’t. You heard about people pulling their neighbors off of rooftops. You saw a group of people trying to move two horses to higher ground. No…we didn’t loot. Our biggest warning was, “Don’t play in the floodwater.” When you think about it…that speaks a lot for our city. A large portion of why we were being ignored was that we weren’t doing anything to draw attention to ourselves. We were handling it on our own.

Some will be quick to find fault in the way rescue operations were handled, but the fact of the matter is that the catastrophe could not have been prevented and it is simply ignorant beyond all reason to suggest otherwise. It is a flood. It was caused by rain. You can try to find a face to stick this tragedy to, but you’ll be wrong.

Parts of Nashville that could never even conceivably be underwater were underwater. Some of them still are. Opry Mills and the Opryland Hotel are, for all intents and purposes, destroyed. People died sitting in standstill traffic on the Interstate. We saw boats going down West End. And, of course, we all saw the surreal image of the portable building from Lighthouse Christian floating into traffic and being destroyed when cars were knocked into it. I’m still having trouble comprehending all of it.

And yet…life will go on. We’ll go back to work, to school, to our lives…and we’ll carry on. In a little over a month, I’ll be on this website talking about the draft. In October, we’ll be discussing the new Predators’ season with nary a thought of these past few days. But in a way, they changed everyone in this town. We now know that that it can happen to us…but also know that we can handle it.

Because we are Nashville.

FYI, the damage estimate for Nashville alone is STARTING at 1 billion dollars

this flood affected the entire middle tenn region ,33 counties every city, town

and one stop light hole-in-the-wall from kentucky to alabama. very expensive.

thanks

232 Why no media coverage? Because it's a red state. Obama could care less about Teh-Nazi.

For the most part, people won't be looting, they will pitch in and clean the mess up themselves. No professional victims on parade.

Any negative coverage might make Obambi look bad as well.

So it will be an un-event.

And you want my 2 cents, as someone who had small parts in the Civil Rights movement, and a civil rights case in my own town? Which, if you care, is 58% black?

"We"-- the collective, not "us"-- elected the first sorta-black President.

Well and good- but...

When the entire Media Hive has decreed that- based only on his skin color ( and BTW, Miss Emily & I have blacker bodies, when we tan, than Duh!1... ) he is

"Too Big To Fail?"

That's RAAACISM!

Say it loud,

Say it Proud:

It's RAAACISM!

And bias

And bigotry...

Myths Realities Gangs in Bangor? With one teen dead and another [Maine]

Portland Police Chief James Craig said publicly last month that one of his primary goals for 2010 is to dismantle two established gangs in Maine's biggest city - one made up primarily of young Somali men and the other composed of young Asians.

Similarly, Lewiston has seen gang activity recently from a group of young Somali men. The crimes have been petty thefts and strong- arm robberies, but the attacks appear to be at least somewhat organized and often involve sticks or rocks to intimidate and even assault. A Lewiston official said there are no gang names or colors to investigate and he characterized the behavior as gang mentality versus gang activity."

Very neat. I would hope something like this would be tried. Of course, we don’t have an administration that is willing to mitigate and solve problems.

Former ATF Agent Pleads Guilty (to stealing money, planting drugs and framing innocent people.)

Just a small window into corruption into most all Federal and State corruption. If only we had the capability to video the activities of these folks. Actually - if we had that capability, way too many would lose confidence in our so called law enforcement system which is just as well.

What the Hell Just Happened in the Market?

Europe's Carbon Mafia, And Ours

Corruption: The carbon trading system being pushed here has spawned crime and fraud across the pond. Cap-and-trade is not about saving the planet. It's about money and power, and absolute power corrupting absolutely.

All across Europe authorities have been conducting raids, rounding up individuals involved in a new version of Climate-gate. This time the data aren't corrupted. Europe's Emissions Trading System is. The system is so sick, it's turned out to be a scam built upon a scam.

Twenty-five people have been arrested in raids by British and German authorities as part of a pan-European crackdown on carbon credit VAT tax fraud.

U.K. officials announced raids on 81 offices and homes, nabbing 13 people in England and eight in Scotland. The operation involved 450 investigators from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs office.

German authorities raided 230 locations, including the headquarters of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and the offices of RWE, one of the largest energy firms in Europe. The German operation involved 1,000 investigators targeting 50 companies and 150 suspects.

The amount of money involved in carbon trading is huge and the temptations vast. While our Congress demagogues about banks and their "complex financial instruments," they are simple compared to cap-and-trade, which as we have noted involves essentially the buying and selling of air. Throw in an oppressive value-added tax and you have a recipe for corruption and fraud.

Drill, Baby, Still

Energy: After BP's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, federal and state governments moved quickly to shelve plans to drill off the U.S. coast. But a new poll taken after the spill suggests Americans still support drilling.

Preliminary results of an IBD/TIPP Poll of 795 U.S. adults, taken from April 30 to May 5, show that a large majority — 59% — approve of "oil exploration and drilling in America's national territorial waters." Just 31% said they disapprove.

Interestingly, the share who approve of offshore drilling has fallen only a bit since the last time we polled Americans on this topic in July 2008. Back then, 64% supported offshore drilling — while 25% disapproved — for a swing of just five percentage points.

Why do people still support drilling? The oil spill notwithstanding, Americans are tired of $85 a barrel oil and understand that the panaceas for our energy ills peddled by the green movement and the left — wind, solar, biomass — are still years off, if ever, from being economically viable.

The cold reality is we need oil. A retreat from drilling would be economically unwise. BP's mess must be put into perspective.

"We get more than a fifth of our domestic production of oil here in the U.S. from off the Gulf Coast, over a million barrels a day," says the American Enterprise Institute's Steve Hayward. "If we don't continue that ... we'll be importing more oil to make up for it, even if consumption stays flat."

Today, the U.S. uses about 21 million barrels of oil a day. But we produce only about a third of that. The rest is imported. All told, including Mexico, a third of our oil and gas comes from the Gulf.

Ah, James, what about that ‘Able Danger’ stuff?
I mean did we really identify some of the 9/11 Al Qaeda crew before the towers were attacked?
And if Able Danger worked, why was it shut down and disbanded and denied.
Kinda strange don’t you think?

Seems the GOP brainstrust is ready to party (build) like it’s 1999!

Notably absent from the new GOP conspiracy – at least as described by Allen and Vogel – is evidence of an understanding that the Internet represents a paradigm shift in the essential context of national politics. There is also no evidence from the Politico piece that the Tea Party movement represents an “Army of Davids” uprising that is, frankly, fed up with establishment Republicanis,

Instead, fund-raising, organizing and advertising are described as the main priorities of the group. There’s nothing new in those priorities.

Establishment GOPers have always preferred to talk about money, organizing, and advertising rather than focusing on the substance of what the party’s office-holders and candidates propose and actually accomplish.

Put another way, it sounds like more of the same-old, same-old from the national GOP –- prescribing more money, management and marketing as the key to political success instead of standing for permanent principles, proposing programs based on those principles, and then actually reforming government according to those principles.

Wait, you mean principles might sell?

My. How very outlaw is such thinking.

Instead, we get “pragmatism” and status quo retreads: Democrat light. Compassionate conservatism. Republicans in sombreros and “Go Green!” buttons, pointing fingers at their Nazi fringe, crying “they are not like me!”

And people wonder how we wound up with f*cking McCain.

Gghah.

The go-fly list for terrorists

If America’s homeland security policies were subject to truth-in-advertising laws, the “no-fly” list would be known around the world by its right and proper name: the “go-fly” list. As in: Go right ahead, jihadists, and fly our planes. All aboard, evil-doers.

While grandmas and grade-schoolers and war heroes patiently pass through a gauntlet of wands, checkpoints and screening obstacles, the nation’s safety watchdogs are asleep at the wheel. They’ve mentally checked out at the check-in counter. And they’re in over their heads at federal counterterrorism centers, where “watch list” means putting the names of dangerous operatives into massive databases — then idly watching potential bombers waltz through our airports and onto our tarmacs.

The federal no-fly scheme was bypassed or breached easily by both the Christmas Day bomb plotter and the Times Square bomb plotter. In the former case, Nigerian terror operative Umar Abdulmutallab had been on the counterterrorism radar screen for his radical jihadi threats (which had been reported by his father to U.S. embassy officials in London). But the young, single, rootless Muslim extremist with suspicious travel patterns — ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! — did not meet the standards for watch-listing and didn’t even make it onto the second-tier “selectee list” of potential threats who can fly only after additional screening.

By contrast, beleaguered 8-year-old Mikey Hicks of Clifton, N.J., still can’t get off the selectee list after years of ridiculous harassment while traveling on family vacations.

In the Times Square case, Team Obama immediately pointed fingers at the airline industry — and Emirates airlines, in particular — for failing to check no-fly list updates. The hindsight cops at the White House are now touting ex post facto rules mandating that the airlines check no-fly alerts every two hours instead of every 24 hours.

But law enforcement officials themselves neglected to contact all airlines directly and red-flag the addition of would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad’s name to the government no-fly list. Moreover, despite paying cash for his trip to the Middle East and being listed on the Department of Homeland Security travel lookout list since 1999, Shahzad received no extra screening from the Transportation Security Administration (confirming once again the bureaucracy’s own inside joke that TSA stands for “Thousands Standing Around”).

The tourism industry certainly shares blame for putting travel profits ahead of national security over the years. But in this case, it was only thanks to airline industry compliance with a post-9/11 procedure requiring plane officials to send passenger manifests to the Department of Homeland Security that the feds caught up with Shahzad (whom they had lost track of in Connecticut) before he jetted off to Dubai.

President Obama has had plenty of time to address the enforcement lapses, database loopholes and technological delays of his predecessor. After the Christmas Day bombing debacle, he pledged to be proactive: “We will not rest.” But to this day, TSA still doesn’t check all domestic and international airline passenger manifests against the no-fly/go-fly list.

The data are only as good as the people entrusted to collect, process and use the information to protect national security. And without the ability to share and access the information across numerous agencies, the data are useless. Nearly nine years after Sept. 11, there is still no functional interoperability among an alphabet soup of national security and criminal databases — including NAILS, TECS, CLASS, VISAS VIPER, TUSCAN, TIPPIX, IBIS, CIS, APIS, SAVE, IDENT, DACS, AFIS, ENFORCE and the NCIC. The Senate raised questions about understaffed efforts to modernize some of these databases back in March. What are we waiting for? The next jihadi bombing attempt?

The warped priorities of the Obama White House imperil us all. A command-and-control government that squanders its time and our money taking over businesses it has no business running — health insurance, auto manufacturing, banking, student loans — is a government neglecting its most fundamental mandate: providing for the common defense.

Tennessee’s Uncovered Disaster -UPDATED  ( There are VIDEOS at the links- Use Teh Links! Read Teh Comments... )

A few days ago a reader asked me if I was going to be writing about the dramatic flooding in Nashville, and I said that I did mean to, and that it seemed to me the Nashville flooding was like the big Ice Storms that left people in some parts of Kentucky without power for nearly a month, two winters ago – a “red state” disaster that went uncovered, and had no one screaming “where are the feds; why aren’t they doing something?”

19 are dead; the damages will top a billion dollars.

It does seem like the natural disasters that occur outside of the Boston – DC corridor go unnoticed by the press. Colorado can get 60 inches of show and a 5 inch thick ice plate, and we never know about it. New York gets six inches of snow, and it leads the news. I am sorry that I did not follow through on my own instincts to cover the flooding.

So, if you have not seen what has been occurring in Tennessee, take a look. Nashville is certainly a disaster area on par with New Orleans after the levee break:

Got that via Newsbusters where they are rounding up relief and aid information if you would like to contribute to helping Tennessee folk get back on their feet.

If you want to make a fast donation, you can text ’REDCROSS’ to 90999 to donate $10 to disaster relief.

The Middle Tennessee Red Cross is here. I am going to be sending a check to Catholic Charities of Tennessee.

Currents covers how the churches are helping

The folk affected by this disaster seem hearty and ready to face their challenges. Let’s keep them in our prayers.

So, the Gulf may have to deal with as much as seeping into it, every day, for a while.

And…the Obama government exempted BP from an impact review last year.

And…President Obama, who hates big oil, big coal, big energy, was on the receiving end of more money from BP than anyone else in politics.

And…the President’s party is fundraising off of the disaster.

Listen…

Can you hear the screaming? Can you hear the righteous denunciation of the “big-oil president and his greedy donors!”

Can you hear the environmentalists weeping and gnashing their teeth shouting “where was he? Why was he yucking it up with Jay Leno while sea-life was imperiled?

Do you hear anyone sneering “you, sir, and your administration have failed in your duty,” or cries of “incompetence!” and “cronyism” and “arrogant disinterest” from the MSNBC mouths as you pass the channel?

Anyone organizing a telethon and announcing “Barack Obama hates beaches and killer whales,”?

No?

Well, what has happened to my country? Where have all the righteous gone?

They have left their guardposts. They are on break. They are no longer sure about things; what used to be evil is now an acceptable norm, not worth noticing!

Who is looking out for the little guy, and the environment?

Who is going to charge the president to put the people over the powerful, the porpoises over the profligates, and to refuse the bribery of Big-Corporate-Big-Interest campaign money?

Who is going to look out for us, now that the self-appointed guardians who were so vigilant until January of 2009 have suddenly gone silent?

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes! What are we to do, now that the guardians are no longer guarding?

It seems that they may now paraphrase St. Paul, crying out, “all that I hate, I am become!”

UPDATE: Hmmmm….how very odd.

I said this once and I will say it again. When the states entertain suing tobacco companies, the tobacco folks thought they were too big and rich to sue, and did nothing until the lawsuits spread to too many states. If the tobacco companies pulled their products from the first state that tried to sue them and let tax revenues from cigarette taxes plunge and cause social chaos as smokers freak out when cigarettes are suddenly unavailable, states may think about suing the tobacco companies. The same with gun companies. The first state that starts to screw with any of the products, ALL gun companies and ammo companies plus gunsmiths should boycott services and products to that offending states law enforcement and agencies. Imagine if IL police can not get guns, ammo, mags and gunsmith services and the criminal can get all that. Too bring the lessons home, allow only single shot weapons available for IL gov and law enforcement, and see how they like living like the under armed civilians facing criminals with higher firepower.

The Nashville flood this past week did not get much attention from the democratic-media complex but it was the single biggest disaster to hit Middle Tennessee since the Civil War.

Flood waters cover parts of Downtown of Nashville, Tennessee after Cumberland River overflowed its bank from record rain fall May 4, 2010. Severe storms and flash floods left more than a dozen people dead in Tennessee and Kentucky over the weekend as rising river waters closed portions of interstate highways leading in and out of Nashville. (REUTERS/M. J. Masotti Jr.)

The floods in Tennessee have ravaged Nashville. Damages are estimated at $1 billion.… Make that $1.5 billion.

This video was posted yesterday at NewsBusters– The national media gave this disaster only 15 minutes this entire week:

The Opryland Hotel was just devastated.

When Liberals Lose Their Own Money

The cause of yesterday's massive stock market plunge remains a mystery and Congress is preparing to hold hearings to find out ....something. I'm glad Congress is trying to determine what happened but, after watching the dim witted line of questioning during last week's Goldman Sachs hearings, there may not be much to get excited about. But the volatility in this nation's capital markets is something to be very concerned about and when it threatens to destroy individual wealth in a matter of minutes even liberals show concern about viable markets and private sector wealth. Yesterday's panic was a vivid illustration of Samuel Johnson's famous phrase that nothing focuses the mind like a hanging. That's probably what was on uber liberal Robert Reich's mind today. Reich, a liberal's liberal if there ever was one, said something today at the HuffPo that was spot on:

Regardless of why it happened ( the crash), it's further evidence that the nation's and the world's capital markets have become a vast out-of-control casino in which fortunes can be made or lost in an instant -- which would be fine except for the fact that most of us have put our life savings there.

What? Is Mr. Reich admitting that our economic future, our retirements and savings (and his), depend upon the profitability and the share price of Exxon? Proctor & Gamble? General Electric? Halliburton?? This was one of those rare moments when a liberal admits the vital importance of a healthy and robust private sector that is the foundation of everyone's life savings. Hopefully the New York Stock Exchange, the SEC and, more importantly, the companies whose shares are listed on these exchanges and trade publicly, will work to make sure violent price swings like this do not occur again. But the lesson to take away from Reich's statement is his admission that private sector corporations are the linchpin of the American economy (hopefully President Obama was listening). If Reich is so concerned about the safety of his life savings (savings that he admits are invested in these companies) then why does he and his fellow travelers promote policies that drain wealth from these companies? It is this enigma (or fool's hypocrisy) that has defined the debate between liberalism and conservatism for decades.

Ann Coulter was excoriated when she offered up the fact that liberal's public policy positions contradicted the way they conduct their own private financial affairs. Liberal politicians (with a few exceptions) don't routinely spend more than they earn when it comes to their family finances. So why do they promote public policy that it so at odds with their own personal financial behavior? The scenes from Greece are a vivid example of what happens when citizens finally become convinced they have been ruined financially and the promises of their government are meaningless. The U S is a long way from the problems Greece is experiencing for only two reasons: we possess the most powerful millitary in the world and our currency maintains reserve currency status. It would be much more comforting if the U S could add fiscal responsibility to that meager list of differences with the PIIGS.

What country are we in?
200 students left school and held a march today following the reports yesterday that 4 students dare wear American flag shirts on Cinco de Mayo.

Hispanic students march down Monterey Road in Morgan Hill on Thursday morning asking for respect after Live Oak High School Principal Nick Boden ignited a controversy Wednesday by sending home five students who wore American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. (Photo by: MorganHill Times Staff)

MorganHill Times reported:

About 200 Hispanic teens are marching in Morgan Hill yelling “We want respect!” and “Si se puede!” in reaction to a controversy ignited when the Live Oak High School principal effectively sent four students home for wearing T-shirts with American flags on them during Cinco de Mayo.

Mexican-American students felt the students were being disrespectful on the only day they celebrate their heritage while students sporting red, white and blue said it violated their First Amendment rights.

Six police cars and a Morgan Hill motorcycle officer have been cruising alongside the large group as it marches.

The group – mostly high school students – walked out of school this morning after the story of four students who were sent home because they wore American flag T-shirts went viral on TV and online. Many wear red, white and green and two large Mexico flags can be seen at the front of the line.

The students say they want people to know they’re proud of their heritage and they believe wearing red, white and blue on Cinco de Mayo is disrespectful.

UPDATE: One of the disciplined students told FOX News today: “I Never Thought That I’d Be On National TV For Wearing An American Flag Shirt”

Quick: When was the last time the democratic-media complex thought that Obama’s actions were too liberal?
Exactly… Never.

Barack Obama is the most anti-capitalist, anti-American, anti-business, anti-Israel president in history and yet the media would make you believe he represents mainstream America.

Andrew Breitbart sat down for an interview recently with Life Site News, via Free Republic.
Andrew Breitbart: “The Left Is, in Essence, The Media”

The bias of the liberal media is so deeply ingrained that it is an essential part of its structure – one that conservatives must fight hard to challenge effectively, according to conservative new media guru Andrew Brietbart.

“The left, to me, in essence, is the media,” said Breitbart an interview with CBN’s Matt Brody.

Big liberal names like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, he explained, “possess limited charms.” “Their ability to get what they need to get done is because they’re carrying the water of the media,” said Breitbart. “The media is a left-of-center ecosystem, it’s a left-of-center organism. So the media can change the dynamics of what we’re talking about.”

Known for attacking liberal media bias head-on, Breitbart is a political commentator who owns his own news web site, Breitbart.com, as well as the blogs Big Hollywood, Big Government and Big Journalism. He also serves as an editor for the Drudge Report.

“I aim everything at attacking the media for its biases and holding them accountable for their biases, and the things that they report incorrectly, or the things they fail to report,” he said.

“By aiming everything at the media I’ve pretty much done the one thing they ask you not to do. ‘Please accept the premise that we’re fair, and let’s move on.’ No. I’m not going to accept that premise.

“For these people to tell me with a straight face that they don’t come to the media and their jobs from a political perspective, from a left-of-center perspective, is just a bald-faced lie.”

When facing mistreatment by the media, Breitbart urged conservatives not to play by the rules as defined by the mainstream media. “These people don’t fight fair,” he said. “The left does not fight fair, and so I’m basically saying to conservatives, you don’t have to fight fair.”

“I want to break down this politically correct paradigm. These are rules that tell conservatives: you’re not allowed to say this, you’re not allowed to think that. This type of Orwellian thought crime crap is what I’m fighting against.

While not strongly religious himself, said Breitbart, the attack on Christians perpetrated by the mainstream media “angers me to no end.” “I consider myself to be a Judeo-Christian. … I relate to the world view that America has,” he said. “It’s a distinctly Judeo-Christian one and I think that it works.”

But Christians, he said, will only exacerbate the problem if they continue to react passively to media slander. “Christian turn-the-cheek tactics do not work agianst this crowd,” he said.
