Obama's Ill. Senate seat eyed as artifact
The Sioux City Journal ^ | November 11, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The chair once used by President-elect Barack Obama when he served in the Illinois Senate could be destined for a museum.

The swiveling, high-backed leather chair is among items from Obama’s Springfield days that are being inventoried with an eye on saving them for the sake of history.

The Chicago Democrat served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004 before heading to the U.S. Senate.

During his time in Springfield, the Senate chambers underwent a massive restoration, which resulted in the destruction of all the desks on the floor — including Obama’s. The chairs from that period, however, were saved, and the one used by Obama has been in storage with others.

Cindy Davidsmeyer, a spokesman for Senate President Emil Jones, D-Chicago, said the assessment is in the early stages.

Also involved in the review is the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, which oversees state historical treasures, including the Old State Capitol, which Obama twice used as a backdrop during his historic campaign for the presidency.

As one guide, officials are investigating what California did after Ronald Reagan became president. He had served as governor of the state.

“We will be looking at what other states did,” Davidsmeyer said.

"They should just retire the senate seat like a sports team would a jersey number, and never fill it again."

They couldn't hang it from the rafters, or they'd be charged with a hate crime, though.

Shouldn’t they just march the chair through town so that we can all gaze in amazement, perhaps touch the chair itself for it’s healing powers?!

When does the work at Mount Rushmore begin?

Mount Rushmore is in the Black Hills, too, for what it's worth.

Ya know how they know which chair was his? It’s the one that smells! People will line up for miles just to take a whiff of his old farts embedded in the leather.

I predict that in 4 years (if we last that long), even the people that voted for him, will despise him for what he’s done to this country.

Will he get The Bush Treatment? I'm not holding my breath, but anything is possible.

There's some talk on another thread that some voters are already having buyer's remorse.

The higher they exalt him, the worse the crash will be when he falls (fails).

I think he is eyeballing the GM Bailout, then Fairness Doctrine and FOCA legislation first.

Then we move onto Obama Deification and The QVA, Quantum Virgin Access Bill.

Gosh,..even Chamelot wasn’t built in a day!!

I wish it so but I am concerned with the entire mainstream media salivating over his every sniff. The media will decide who to blame and it sure has heck won’t be him, IMHO.

It’s an interesting cunudrum, as I explained to my son, we can’t really hope for our President to fail; if he does our nation fails.

On the other hand, if he gets his way with immigration, taxes, judges and our military, we won’t have much of a nation left at the end of 4 years.

Not just the chair but the entire space he occupied while there. This should be turned into a shrine. Admission charged and all other members of the senate will be charged a daily rate to come into the chambers!

Shhhhheeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiitt!

The chair should be sent to that half-brother who is living in the hut, in Kenya I believe. At least he’ll have something comfortable to sit on instead of a rock.

I haven't been to catecism class in 44 years, but the very first thought that popped into my mind was: Third Degree Relic.
