Yeah right, And when you need medical help just go to the Atheist Hospital, or if you need food and shelter just turn to the Atheist Charities...
they do so much good in the world....
Atheist have a problem with morality in general and 'goodness' in this particular case. In the first case, there is no amount of reasoning that they can do to lead them to conclued that should not be amoral. Pragmatism, yes, but reasoning no.
As far as being 'good', how does one know what 'good' is? Atheist have no fixed, i.e. absolute, standard by which to judge their actions. Everything becomes relative and 'good' loses its meaning.
So, to answer the question; 'Why Believe in a God? Just be Good', I would say "Because without God, there is no 'good'."
In such circumstances, I think I would like the concentration to be on saving my body rather than on saving my soul.
Which of the thousands of gods perceived by man since man had perception and the hundreds of gods worshipped by man today would that be?
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good-except God alone."
When someone asks you to be "good". They are asking the impossible from you. You can do some good. You can even do a lot of good. But you can not BE good.
You are only human. And humans by their very nature are flawed.
“You are only human. And humans by their very nature are flawed.”
Uh-huh... but to some folks truth is ever elusive. They live under the pretense we are all born sinless and are only corrupted by the world, when the Word is clear we are born in sin.
“Mark 8:36 (New International Version)
36What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?
You only live twice and the second time is forever!
I look forward to conversing with someone who has lived twice.
I think atheists wanting to be "good" end up practicing statolatry, which is why Obama speaks to them:
In the end, then, what is called for is nothing more, and nothing less, than what all the worlds great religions demand that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Let us be our brothers keeper, Scripture tells us. Let us be our sisters keeper. Let us find that common stake we all have in one another, and let our politics reflect that spirit as well.
Doesn’t sound like we’ll be very accesible to one another from the looks of it. Reckon we’ll just have to chat here (unless, of course you change your mind... I won’t)
The only one that matters, the creator of the universe, the author of salvation, the great 'I Am'.
It hurts our ego. We want to be the hero of our own story.
But I have found out that things go much more smoothly when I set ego aside and admit that at all times and in all things I need His help and guidance.
“But I have found out that things go much more smoothly when I set ego aside and admit that at all times and in all things I need His help and guidance.”
Great admonition!
It’s the only way it can work out. We’re only useful in the grand scheme of things if we’re squashed and remolded in the image of our Creator.
Googled "I Am"
Apparently God also manufactures pet food.
You are trying to change the subject, like all good propagandists.
Just when I was thinking you were a good guy... I don’t care if you agree with me or not. That’s the difference in us... I tried to have conversation with you about what you wanted to talk about (religion) and you wouldn’t respond.
Your comments have been your own personal propaganda machine in this entire thread.
I was actually just trying to brighten your day a bit. But, alas...
Happy fishing, man. Hope you get another bite.
Retreat is an honorable action.
Give me a heads-up if you’d like to spar on the subject.
Retreat is not an option...
