OPEN LETTER TO BILL O'REILLY
Vanity ^ | Saturday, November 15, 2008 | Gargantua

Posted on 11/15/2008 6:51:17 AM PST by Gargantua

Hi Bill,

In your recent Townhall piece you posit that there are Republicans who feel that

Governor Palin is too unqualified to lead, so it's better for them if they maginalize

her now so they won't have to deal with her again in 2012.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Her assailants, from the Right and the Left (and the media..., ahem) have seen

what she has done in Alaska as Governor. Huge Oil Company lobbies shut down.

Oil revenues going into the hands of the voters. Powerful, entrenched "old boy network"

mavens gone, castrated, or in jail... Democrats and Republicans.

Palin's attackers have no misgivings about her ability to lead. They see what she's done

in just two years in the Great White North, and they are justifiably terrified. They watch her

draw 30,000 screaming rally-goers in the same city where Biden drew 400, and their

bowels loosen.

For one as astute as you to imply that their concern, for good or ill, is over her

qualifications or ability to lead... ...really only speaks to your own candor and integrity. You can fool

some of us some of the time, but you don't fool me with your subtle innuendo. And as for

Palin's public detractors; their redeeming speck is that they at least don't masquerade as a

spin-free impartial observer who is "looking out for me."

Standing in for your conscience

while it's on vacation,

(Name redacted for FR)
Warren, MA

While I agree OReilly is a blowhard, I do find him entertaining once in a while. I enjoy his bit with Dennis Miller.

As for Sarah, well... I love Sarah.. But I think Bobby Jindal is the far better choice.. Half of being a good President is being a great communicator like Reagan was. And I think Sarah has great values, a great family, and she gives a fantastic speech. But I’m not convinced she has an ability to articulate on-the-fly/off the cuff. That is critical. She has 3 years. It’s possible.. I would never underestimate this woman.

Where and when did it become prerequisite to have so called "Washington Experience" to be in any level of elected Federal Office? The time for Term Limits has come.

I humbly propose:

House:
4 elected terms or no more than 10 years minus one day. The 10 years minus one day would cover any number of scenarios. Sitting House members with tenure longer than the above limit would be ineligible to run for their seat in the next election but would serve out their current elected term. The same would be true for Senators below

Senate:
Going back to state legislatures electing Senators would be best. However, tackling the monumental task of ADDING an Amendment to the Constitution would be easier that ADDING one and REPEALING one (The 17th). We could work on that later. In that vein, term limits for Senators would be 2 elected terms or no more than 18 years minus one day.

SCOTUS:
20 years.

Federal Judges:
All Presidential appointed and Senate approved judges under Article III of the Constitution. 12 years.

The aristocratic and tyrannical attitudes of our current Washington Establishment are garnering dissension, discord, and dissonance (pardon the alliteration) in The Land of The Free. Term limits will strike at the core of the issue.

"Just stop watching BOR and Smith you will feel better."

I wasn't watching O'Reilly. I just read his article in "Townhall" posted here on FreeRepublic, where he asserts that there are members of the GOP who are attacking Sarah because they feel she is unqualified to lead.

That is the biggest pile of steaming pant-sauce anyone ever tried to sell me... including all Irishmen and their notorious penchant for blarney.

I know what you mean. Since a few weeks before the election, I've switched over to music rather than talk radio. I still listen to sports, but have found the change to be quite calming.

Life is too short.

Looks to me like O’Reilly has finally seen the light. If he hasn’t, he’ll find himself unemployed.

"What comment in his column is unsupportive of Sarah? "

You are proving my point. He hides the poison seed so well that you actually don't see the slam on her in his stated position.

Read my post again... slowly, if need be... and you'll see my point. You might not agree with it, but you'll get it eventually. At least that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Have your pal O'Reilly (or is this his mom?) ask me on the show for a debate. It'll be riveting right up to the point where his head pops like that guy in "Scanners."

Bill is lookin out for the “fairness doctrine”. The solution to Bill is just not to watch him.

It appears that Fox News in general is kneeling at The Messiah’s alter. Just the threat of invoking the “fairness doctrine” has had the desired effect.

Rush and others like him have not been intimidated so far. But I find these Talk Radio people harder and harder to listen to. They just keep repeating the same stuff over and over again. We know the MSM is biased. We know the demrats can break any law they want to—even the Constitutional requirement for US Pres. to be native born American—and get away with it. We know that most people running under the Pubbie banner are RINOs.

What is needed now is meaningful discussion about what to do about it. Watching the RNC flounder about is nauseating. It appears to me the lesson the RNC leadership learned from getting its a** handed to them is that we need to be more like the demrats. If that is true than what function does the RNC serve? The only thing I can think of is that it serves as the vehicle for putting and keeping RINOs in power.

As I thought, you can find nothing wrong in this column.

Are you a plant for Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews?

I think (just my opinion) that O'Reilly is disrespectful to all women, even his guests. Wasn't he the one who was making late night sex calls? I stopped watching him when he had Obama on the night of McCain's convention acceptance speech. Maybe he was too stupid to recognize he was being used.

It didn't surprise me in the least to learn that he aired Cameron's unsubstantiated rumors.

What’s wrong with his column is the fact that nowhere does he say anything positive about her talent and attributes. He only says that it’s not nice to be bashing her, as if to say ‘please lay off this poor soul, she’s gone through enough already.’ If that’s not spin, then what is it?

I’ve gone back, after 20 years away from it, to writing songs. A sort of lonely art, yet one where I’ve reconnected with some old friends as well as found a bunch of new ones. “Lyrical folk” are a bit off-center and it’s very comfortable for me in that kind of company. Of course, there’s a “business” aspect to it where we’d all like to have a song or two make a few bucks, but that isn’t the essence of it for most. If you like, click http://emmettgrayson.avenuehifi.com I get a lot more out of doing this than hearing what the talkers have to say - and I sleep better, too.

He says: "Palin is a strong pro-life voice and, as such, has a giant target on her back as far as the left-wing media are concerned. She must be destroyed as an example to other women who may try to promote a pro-life position. "

This is not a compliment? I would be honored to be recognized as a strong pro-life voice.

I hear you though: He does not recognize the rest of her strengths... yet.

If I were writing a letter to O'Reilly, I would point some of them out. She is intelligent, charismatic, principled, wise and tireless. Most importantly, she is a proven leader.

We lost respect for Bill O’Reilly’s opinion years ago. He has become a total hack.

That's wonderful. My husband plays guitar. It's a perfect stress reliever for him, since he usually plays before and after work. He's made friends all over the world online, through various forums, and usually hosts a jam once a year around his birthday.

what? Oreily is a first class idiot. He has only RINOs on as if they are conservatives. Oreily never left his “current affair” tv show media whoring. I just pay he gets some SERIOUS competition from a real conservative. Oreily’s milque tost MSM buffooner is useless for conveying real information.

Excellent spelling. Are you one of those "troles"?
