**THR: YOU’VE TALKED RECENTLY ABOUT HOW YOU’VE LOST A LOT OF YOUR ENTHUSIASM FOR THE JOB. HOW IMPORTANT IS THAT IN JOURNALISM?

Hume: I think it’s the indispensable ingredient in TV news, and maybe in news in general. You see someone like Mike Wallace, who went on and on and on to a very advanced age, but he was fine because he never lost his zest for this stuff. The cycles or events didn’t seem to tire him out. I feel all the time when I’m covering the news that I’ve seen this before. That’s valuable because it may give you insight into how things are going to go or what they mean. But after awhile, it makes it less interesting. And that’s a bad thing. That makes me less valuable, I think.**

Do you sense that Brit had lost his enthusiasm? During the end of this election I think he was getting totally disgusted with the whole thing. (And rally couldn’t voice his views.)

I will miss Brit Hume. I liked him long before he came to Fox.
I recall the day Bill Clinton tried to knock Brit out with his anger, didn’t work. I believe the news conference was in the Rose Garden, anyway, Brit ask ole bill a question he didn’t like, ole bills face turned red, Brit stood his ground, kept his cool. From that day he has been a favorite of mine. Brit was with ABC when that happened.

THR: DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR YOUR SUCCESSOR?

Hume: Keep an eye out for the stories that are being done one way by the media where there's a legitimate, alternative way to do it. There's a homogeneity and outlook in the media that provides an opportunity for someone who is willing to take another look.

Brit's Special Report is the best news show on television IMO and the above is one big reason why. I wish him the best and hope FOX News maintains his philosophy.

Hello Brit Hume.

Our family has always enjoyed the format and info on Special Report.
It’s the only show we watch regularly now on the Fox Channel.

We did watch some of the specials with E.D. Hill.

May God bless you Brit in all your endeavors.

Brit Hume has been a man that I felt I could trust to deliver a balanced, fair and substantial report each day. I hope that we have not seen the last of his insight. I thank him for his long dedication.

I shall truly miss Brit. I have looked forward to the evening news with relish as no one has been able to capture it with his special insight.

He is one true gentleman.

I was crushed when his son committed suicide.

It would appear that the loss of his son brought him to a special relationship with The Son, and for that I am thankful.

I had noticed that he alluded to his "faith" on more than one occasion, when fitting.

Though I shall personally miss seeing him and hearing his voice regularly, I understand that he finds that life is about more than his career, no matter how very good he is at it.

Godspeed Brit and know that we hold you in the highest esteem.

Obviously Brit is doing this now rather than next year, because after the O gets in office and starts cranking out executive orders, Komrade Brit would be subject to jail time for leaving work for “religious” reasons.

Verbotten!!

Brit Hume was the reason we got satellite TV with FOX. I am glad he is retiring while still in his prime. FOX has gone bad and is no longer politically fair and balanced. I do not expect that the panel which Brit moderated will exist after he leaves as there has been considerable rotation of the members for some time. There are good people at FOX but unless they walk the Murdoch line of left of center, they will not last long. I wish the very best for Brit in whatever direction his new life takes him. He has contributed immeasurably to the quality of TV news reporting and I am sure he has had a positive impact on many of those left behind.

Here's a link that works better: Fox News' Brit Hume leaving for family, religion

Brit was talking to Bill O'Reilly a week or two ago. He mentioned that TONIGHT'S broadcast (Tuesday, December 23, 2008) would be his last broadcast as anchor of "Special Report with Brit Hume". I wonder who will take over that anchor spot from now on...

I'm heartbroken... I'm really gonna miss Brit! Hope he returns often to the Fox News Channel.

What does that mean that he’s leaving for his Christian faith?
