Noonan: Mischievous Media Wants to Make Palin Face of GOP
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Why does Sarah Palin continue to receive so much media coverage? Peggy Noonan has a theory. The Wall Street Journal columnist believes the MSM is up to what she considers "mischief": attempting to make Sarah Palin the face of the Republican party.

Noonan propounded her premise during an appearance today on Morning Joe.

I know her record. She majored in journalism. She only had a passport 2 years ago. She raised taxes on oil companies and had a surplus when the oil prices went up. I’m sorry but I’m not going to be impressed by that.

There are much stronger contenders, like Jindal or Sanford, and I will support them.

We can’t compete with the democrats on emotions and fluff so if that’s all we offer then we’ll lose again.

You need to get yourself a new sarcasm detector - yours is obviously defective.

We didn’t offer substance. We offered McCain and Palin and attacks against “greed.”

Nonsense. "We" offered plenty of substance - it was just the wrong substance. THAT was controlled by McCain - those decisions were not up to Palin. As the VP candidate she was required to adhere to McCain's wishes.

Perhaps you could grasp this more easily if you looked at it in military terms. When allowed to have her way, Palin did attempt to focus on substantive issues, particularly energy. McCain, however, put a whole slate of issues off the table and whenever Palin got to close to them she was slapped down or sabotaged by her own (supposedly) people.

Despite all this she conducted a brilliant tactical campaign on the ground, against overwhelming odds, but was doomed to ultimate failure by the strategic incompetence and stupid decisions of her commanding general, his staff and a woefully inadequate logistics support system.

Of course, I know you actually do understand all this - it just doesn't fit your agenda to acknowledge it. You've got your meme and you'll be clinging to it to the bitter end... /grin

The pipeline is very important, but it is only one issue. She had nothing much to say on health care or the bailout or most of the other issues that a governor has to deal with.

Well, now she’s free from McCain. Now is her opportunity to talk about substance.

But if we’re just going to have an emotional Palin love fest for the next few years then it’s not gonna happen.

The proceeds where distributed to Alaskans who had a state constitutional right to a % of oil profits.

I agree completely - time will tell.

I will add, however, that it's just as important that we drop all this knee-jerk Palin bashing as it is that we drop the celebrity worship adulation of her.

Now, since I find to my utter amazement that we are in agreement, I think I'd best be headin' off to see my therapist... /g

Exactly. Them were fighting words. The media loves their power and control. They will destroy anyone who is a threat.

I love Sarah Palin. But I don’t want to lose again and I don’t want another W Bush who had some good points but completely botched up on others.

Those Republican friends of yours need to look at Palin’s record as mayor and governor. Her pro-life stance is personal, in her own words, and she has never, in 8 years as a mayor or 2 years as governor, pushed a socially conservative agenda.

“Wait until the left airs Jindal’s exorcism tape.”

I’m far from being a member of the Republican faithful, but I like Sarah Palin. She’s not a lawyer, she doesn’t come out of the DC cesspool, she has exhibited great inner strength, and courage, she not only talks the talk, but walks the walk on her convictions. Is she brilliant? No, but then again, I have seen much brilliance in either party in all the years I’ve been paying attention to them. Is she polished, smooth, and slick? No, and maybe that is another quality that I find attractive. I don’t agree with some of her beliefs, but she at least has core beliefs, and sticks by them, whereas most politicians wet their finger, and holds it in the air, then decides what their beliefs are. Does she have a vast sum of accumulated knowledge about all the issues facing the nation? No, but then again, neither has a lot of those who have been elected, including obama. Give her 4 years to read, listen, observe, study, and think, and she’ll be ready for politics on the national stage. For those who belittle her accomplishments, just remember, she rose from a town council person, to mayor, to the governor of her state, and she did it all on her own, thanks to her inner strength and courage. She was not from a wealthy family who could buy her an election to any of these things, and she did not ride her husbands coattails like Hillary did, again, she did it on her own. Perhaps those who get so much pleasure out of attacking her should stack their own accomplisments against hers before they post their often times vile comments. Maybe those in the media who attack her should compare the “couage” they display from the safety of a terminal in a cube farm on the media plantation, and it is they who will come out lacking.

Excellent plan. The RNC elites have been running the Republican Party hard left on social issues and on spending issues.

It is time for a revolution within the Republican Party.

You are so in for it. The Palindrones can’t stand to hear or read even the slightest criticism of their demigod. This might go on for pages now.

Yes, it’s ALWAYS ‘Sarah Palin’, NEVER ‘Governor Palin’. Letterman & Leno do it, Oprah, SNL,Most in the media. It’s very deliberate, and designed to take away credibility.
