There’s also speculation that SOME of them may have registered as “guests” and set up from one or both of the hotels.

I’m wondering if the hostages were strategic or tactical.

Two short nights, two long days in a row, not going to let AQ hose my Thanksgiving.

Out for some sleep, back tomorrow morning, in and out at least.

Has there been any indication of how many men were involved in each (or any) of these attacks? Or how many boats have been found? I get the impression this wasn’t really a very large operation. Maybe 100-200 men. And it didn’t require a lot of logistics or financing. AK-47s and grenades are cheap, and so are rubber boats. I have seen no mention of RPGs or satchel charges.

They’re going to get sloppy one of these times and we are going to get them by the balls and blow apart every element of the operations of those diabolical bastards.

No luck. Just says “Player will load here” but doesn’t.

Another request from the police to refrain from commenting on the ongoing terrorist search operations in the hotels. Also, fire in the Taj still active. Due to the security situation, they have to fight from the outside and it must be difficult with all the wooden ornamentation and gables.

Mumbai: At least 101 people, including a foreign tourist and a top counter-terror officer, were killed and about 287 injured as terrorists struck in the heart of Mumbai in planned and synchronised attacks.

Terrorists were reported to be holding people hostage in two five-star hotels, the Taj Intercontinental and Trident (formerly Oberoi) facing the waterfront across the Arabian Sea, and the Madam Cama Hostel.

Three top police officials, including Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, were among the nine policemen killed in gunfights with the terrorists, police confirmed.

Among terror targets was the city’s busiest railway station, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). “This is a most audacious attack. It is a very serious situation and gun battles are still on in at least three places,” said Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Deshmukh confirmed early Thursday morning that terrorists had struck at 10 places.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hasan Ghafoor said the attacks were suspected to be “coordinated terrorist acts”, and added that automatic weapons like AK-47 and AK-56 and semi-automatic rifles as well as grenades were apparently used.

Maharashtra government spokesman Bhushan Gagarani confirmed 78 people were killed and 287 injured, many of them grievously.

He said two terrorists were killed in gun battles with police while nine were held.

It appeared that small groups of heavily armed terrorists sneaked into busy public places, mostly in south Mumbai, in the dead of the night spreading panic in the city.

Many of the locations targeted, mostly in upscale south Mumbai, were favourite destinations of foreign tourists, like the Leopold Restaurant in Colaba. The restaurant was riddled with bullet holes and there were blood on the floor and shoes left by fleeing customers.

Maharashtra Director General of Police A N Roy said: “At least seven places have been attacked. The figure could be eight.

“The terrorists have gone in and fired indiscriminately at certain places. They are still holed up in three places and gun-battles have been on (with security forces).”

Five people were killed in a bomb blast targeting a taxi in Vile Parle. The taxi was blown to pieces, police said.

The report also said that there was no group called the Deccan Mujahideen and the e-mail has been traced back to a fictitious IP address in Russia. It said that the hawkish elements in Pakistan stage-managed this terror attacks to coincide with the visit of Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was to visit Chandigarh today in the company of his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee, a trip that has since been cancelled.

That's not good news. The trip from Karachi to Mumbai is a very long one for rubberized boats, but I have been surprised of the range of Islamic Sea Based pirates in Somalia. So I guess anything is possible.

This is nothing new. The Indian media is KNOWN for giving out TOO MANY DETAILS and also getting very dramatic and having VERY loose lips. They are being told by the Govt. and the Army and Police to shut up and watch what they say, even as we speak.

Sorry you can’t get the feed:(

I heard that request too- what a relief. It seemed amazing the reporters were being so cavalier with their info- I presumed they were told it was OK by officials. Apparently not.

“is RDX easy to come by?”

Fairly easy, unless one is a law-abiding citizen.

One of the reasons for a attack from sea is operational security for the terrorists. No last-minute snitches or second thoughts about “martyrdom” to screw things up. This would be especially important with a large force, as this certainly seems to be.
