I can tell you this, though. My Dad had 3 stints put in. The last one just didn't do the trick. My parent's friend had open heart surgery and is fine now. My Dad's no longer with us. My Mom always said she wishes he could have had them open him up and really fix him.
There's positives for both situations, so let's just pray for the best outcome.

My prayers are with you and your mother. Emphysema (also called COPD) and heart disease are a dangerous combination. I lost my uncle to that earlier this year.
