A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.

The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

The fact is that when a child receives a gift, it belongs to them, not the parents. When you take things from kids, you are teaching them that liberals have the right to take things away their entire life. Parents have a responsibility to TEACH children to be charitable and not cling to things. When you allow children to think about what charity means and be actively involved in the process, you are giving them a valuable lesson that will last a lifetime. When you just take their things and tell them that their opinions don’t matter, you are teaching them that socialism is the ultimate power and that freedom means nothing.

I’m really surprised when so-called conservatives totally screw up their kids this way by treating them like they are human garbage instead of taking the time to teach them to be charitable. The fact that those kids wound up getting more stuff to replace what was taken compounds the idea that liberalism is the ultimate power of giving and taking. If you want to teach your kids that way, please keep them away from mine who are being taught values.

On Wednesday, with a little help from Daddy, our 10yo went through her clothes and has a fairly large pile that will be taken to the Hospice Thrift Store tomorrow.

I guess we're doing something right, because at the moment she is in her room doing the same thing with toys.....

I’m reminded of last year’s Toys R Us ad for a $300 Zune on sale that day for $100. Hundreds waited outside for hours in the bitter winter wind. How many did they actually have in stock? 15.

I've never understood this. They have a sale on the most popular toy for ridiculously low prices. A thousand people show up. They lose money on the sale and they have 985 pissed off people who probably stomp out of the store without buying anything. Or maybe the first steal a few things before leaving, just to 'get even.'

If the thing is in demand, sell it at full price! You will get rid off all of them quickly, you will make a profit, and will not have a bunch of angry losers in your store.

I went to Super Walmart last night to get dog food. The store was almost empty, so I picked up some stuff. The Walmart depicted in the article must not stay open 24/7. However, what can possess people to want something so badly that they will ignore all courtesies to get something cheap? I avoid store crowds, and am disgusted at the mob rule when it comes to doing something so ordinary. It’s too bad these kinds of people can’t get so serious about the real issues that we are facing. Every person who was part of the crowd, was guilty of manslaughter. Whether volunary or involuntary, they killed someone because of their greed.

I just feel enormous disgust when cameras, inside a store, show the onrush of people, pushing and running to be the first inside -— to get at bargains, and usually non-essentials. What a materialistic world we are in.

Maybe it is because I HATE shopping, but I just don’t understand the need for this sort of mayhem. Sure people get bargains, but why stage such spectacles to get them? Greed on dispay?

You and me both. I've done the same things for the past 12 years or so and noticed my stress level at the holidays went way down.
