The above article is so full of stereotypes about Evangelical Christians, I hardly know where to begin.

Maybe we can start with this canard : "Dobson opposes the existence of gays."

The fact they are attacking Christians means they fear Christians. Christians tend to be conservative. The GOP pretends to be conservative. That is what is hurting the GOP.

Note that this article is published in TOWNHALL, a conservative opinion site. There seems to be a number of conservatives opposed to the religious right.

Dobson attacked Fred Thompson for not being an avid church goer. Dobson enabled Huckabee to win Iowa and it lead to McCain being the nominee.

I know of very mainstream conservatives that demonize, or demagogue gays. I personally do not have a problem with gays or even gay marriage, however, I would vote for a gay marriage ban because I simply do not believe in redefining an institution that has been the bedrock of civilization for 5000 years. It has nothing to do with “wanting to deny people rights”. I am against teaching our children that gay marriage is a normal, mainstream behavior, and families without a mother and father are normal. Furthermore, I am against calling the heads of families “parent A” and “parent B”.

“There seems to be a number of conservatives opposed to the religious right.”

Yeah the religious right comprises the largest single voting block in the country if treated properly. Its a good idea to alienate them.

Statement:”Dobson, conversely, employs a saintly litmus test that marginalizes large swaths of his own party.”

Is that a fact? Then why did the piece begin with this:
“Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker recently penned a provocative column titled “Giving Up on God,” wherein she suggested that the Republican Party ditch G-O-D.”

Excuse me, please, but just who is it trying to marginalize “large swaths” of the GOP?

I love how people make statements like yours. As if Dobson shouldn’t have any say or ability to endorse a candidate just because he’s a leading Christian.

yeah, but that cost the state of colorado a lot of jobs and revenues.

it’s like a friend of mine is angry because two gay men live across the fence from her. their dog barks. she gets angry.

she doesn’t think the gays should live across the fence from her.

huh? this is america. what right does she have to say who lives across from her?

i’m a free market libertarian.

look at my profile.

being religious does not give you the right to interfere in others’ lives.

no sooner than that happens, than someone other intrudes upon your life.

it’s that obvious.

I am really sick of the enemy telling the GOP how to win. That’s what the hell happened to us to begin with, we listened to them.

We don’t need to give up on God. God is what made this country great to begin with. What we do need to do is to start telling these people to get out of our lives. If they don’t believe in God, that’s their choice but they need to show as much respect for our religion as they demand for their race, sexual preference, non-religion, etc.

That stupid atheist display that was anti-Christian. They should only have been allowed to put up a display for what they did believe in, trees or self-portraits, whatever.

I think that Christians are being attacked daily far more than any minority. Where’s our protection? I’m going to call my congressman tomorrow and say that I want the Christian bashing to stop NOW!

Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker recently penned a provocative column titled “Giving Up on God,” wherein she suggested that the Republican Party ditch G-O-D.”

This is the same Kathleen Parker who received thousands of angry e-mails when she started to dish Sarah Palin after McCain chose her.

She has a problem with deeply religious candidates even when they don't publicly display their religious inclinations. The fact that you're a devout christian makes you "dangerous" in Parker's book ( together with her ilk ).

I have always suspected Kathleen Parker as the liberal WaPo's "token" conservative ( much like David Brooks is to the NY Times). I said this before and I'll say it again -- She eventually do an Arianna Huffington and abandon all conservative pretense altogether.

Well, political conservatism isn't as narrowly defined as Christianity.

And the Republican party isn't as narrowly defined as conservatism.

Well, at least that's the way it ought to be, IMO.

Seems some of the religious right hope they can control a major political party to the exclusion of others.
