Think tank: If each of us carried a gun . . .
Times Online (London, UK) ^ | December 8, 2008 | Richard Munday

Posted on 12/08/2008 12:11:58 PM PST by libstripper

The firearms massacres that have periodically caused shock and horror around the world have been dwarfed by the Mumbai shootings, in which a handful of gunmen left some 500 people killed or wounded.

For anybody who still believed in it, the Mumbai shootings exposed the myth of “gun control”. India had some of the strictest firearms laws in the world, going back to the Indian Arms Act of 1878, by which Britain had sought to prevent a recurrence of the Indian Mutiny.

Let’s keep plugging away at this issue even if it’s one person at a time.

I had a discussion with two of my son’s flaming lib friends about so-called “gun control”. By the end of it, they’d changed their minds about it and one is even considering getting his CC permit.

(I’ve also got one of them reading The Fountainhead and bought him Atlas Shrugged for Christmas. Bwahahahaha!)

“Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India,” Mahatma Gandhi said, “history will look upon the act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest.” The Mumbai massacre is a bitter postscript to Gandhi’s comment. D’Souza now laments his own helplessness in the face of the killers: “I only wish I had had a gun rather than a camera.”
And that "blackest of misdeeds" is now being contemplated by our "blackest of Presidents".

Don’t even have to go that far.. just the threat of it works.

Kennesaw, Georgia put a law on their books, “Every Homeowner shall keep a Firearm in their home.”

Since then, the town crime rate sits in most cities “Margin of Error”.. THIS YEAR, same town in Late October.. had it’s first Homicide of the year.

Yes, as long as it's 'everybody trained to carry a gun. Would you want to be sitting next to somebody like that jerk in NY who shot himself in the leg?

Richard Munday has AFAIK always been pro-gun/armed defense. He was assistant editor of “Handgunner” (not American Handgunner) magazine, a British firearms periodical that folded about the same time as the handgun ban (unsurprisingly) in 1997.

Each of us? I don’t know, it’s not working out so well that each of us has a vote. :(

‘If each of us carried a gun...’

We’d have 36 months of ‘incidents’.

And thereafter a much more polite society.

Works for me.
