FWIW, from Blindgossip.com (who is having a run of blind items actually coming true lately):

“Which politician will likely take their entire family down with them as a scandal unfolds? Once investigators start following the money trail, expect a whole closetful of drugs and alcohol and dirty money skeletons to come tumbling out in a disgraceful and ruinous heap. BTW, the politician is not a Governor.”

I’m going to guess that the name starts with a J, ends with an N, and has ackso in the middle.

That’s what I don’t get. Why pretend that neither he nor any of his staff EVER even thought about talking to the Gov about the Senate appointment?? If your hand is caught in the cookie jar, saying “There is no cookie jar” is a dumb defense.

I’m kind of shocked they are digging at all! I guess as long as they can keep saying, “Obama is clean, let us stress, Obama is clean...” they will keep digging avoiding the exposed wires that are Obama.

I totally believe it. Yesterday as I was pulling into work and listening to WLS. I forget who was on, but he said that a lot of aides and state employees are feeling relieved and a lot are talking about what they saw, were asked to do, and cover up.

Sort of that old saying, be careful because the people you see on the way up are the same ones you see on the way down.

11/11/08 Conversation: 16

* Harris interprets it as a tactic of the Obama team
* Blagojevich broaches the topic of a 501(c)(4) again, and he mentions how Obama and allies can fund it while he is still Governor and Jarrett is Senator; Blagojevich also mentions that Senate Candidate 6 can help bankroll the issues advocacy group to be led by Blagojevich
* They agree this is easier for Obama than for Obama to appoint Blagojevich to a position
Conversation 19:
* Blagojevich discusses the open Senate seat with Advisor B
* Blagojevich discusses the option of a 501(c)(4) with Advisor B, who says the “Change for Win” option is better, for from Obama’s perspective, there would be fewer “fingerprints” of Obama’s involvement
* Advisor B mentions that “Change for Win” is a better option, as there will not be stories in four years of how Obama bought Blagojevich off
* Blagojevich mentions how a 501(c)(4) will exist in two years, while “Change to Win” may not
Conversation 20:
* Blagojevich speaks with a different DC advisor about the open Senate seat

* SEIU official met with Blagojevich the previous week, and Blagojevich understood Stern was an emissary of Jarrett

Jarrett accepts cabinet post.
“After several pages of detailing those machinations, the criminal complaint takes an abrupt turn, describing NO WIRETAPS for a period of THREE WEEKS. The complaint says Blagojevich had “numerous conversations” about the Senate seat during that period, but it doesn’t detail any.”

* Blagojevich says he wants “President-elect Advisor” to receive word of the 501(c)(4) option on that day, for when “President-elect Advisor” asks about the open fifth Congressional district Seat, it will be in the advisor’s mind
* Blagojevich may have the power to appoint a Representative to Illinois’s fifth Congressional district seat, which was previously occupied by Rahm Emanuel
Conversation 25:
* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss open Senate seat
* Blagojevich mentions how he hopes the 501(c)(4) is in the head of the “President-elect Advisor,” but he hopes it is implanted in that person’s mind in a manner in which it is not connected to the open Senate seat or the open House seat
* When asked by Advisor A if it is, Blagojevich responds, “it’s unsaid. It’s unsaid.”
Conversation 26:
* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss open Senate seat
* Blagojevich asks Advisor A to contact Individual A and ask Individual A to contact “President-elect Advisor” about the 501(c)(4)
* Advisor A asks if it should be mentioned outside of the open Senate and House seats, and Blagojevich says yes

Rutt rohh!! In and out today, so please keep me pinged to any juicy stuff you find!

Madigan asking for the Illinois Supremes to remove Blago from office now....lol. She is up to her eye-balls in this whole mess and probably helped to tip off Obama to the wiretaps.

Question: Who will remove her from office?

LOL

I don’t believe they were put up either, but after the 11/10 marathon phone call Team 0 drastically changed course. They were tipped off, IMO, and either played along with the Feds or threw out a ruse.

How did they change course?

If they were playing along, why did they act so surprised and so defensive upon learning about the arrest. They weren't prepared to deal with the arrest and made some mistakes - Axelrod's poor excuse for what he said publicly and Obama's slip up on his statement saying, "we", then saying "I".

If they were playing along, they would have said so right away and been hailed as heroes who rode in on their white horses to conquer evil.

Rahm Emmanuel is uncharacteristicly quiet and unapproachable.

“How did they change course?”

VJ’s swift and abrupt removal of her name from the candidate list.

Durbin announcing he’s the new goto man, and pawned out Duckworth.

0’s senate seat resignation to ramp up Blago’s decision.

Possibly, but my take on the Valerie Jarrett withdrawal was that it was a bluff to counter Blago’s bluff of putting into in the Sun-Times that he was leaning toward appointing JJ, Jr. when he had no intention of doing so.

This was a high stakes game with moves and counter moves by many interested parties. To confuse the issue, no one could come out and say what they really meant. It was all innuendo and doublespeak.

Blago says he’s going to appoint JJ, Jr. Obama’s team knows it’s a bluff, so Jarrett withdraws. Blago continues the offers to D.C. Advisors to get Jarrett back on the table. The bargaining continues for several more days after the conference call with Blago insisting on his messages getting to the Pres.-Elect Advisor (Emmanuel?)

From the conversations I’ve read, it appears that Obama’s team was willing to push buttons to get Blago the position with a Change to Win, but Blago would have to serve out his term. Blago wanted something right away and he had been refused administration positions.

Blago was pursuing the BO’s help in the creation of a 501(c)(4) he could run that would be funded by Warren Buffett or other wealthy Obama allies which would be formed immediately. Blago talked with Stern (SEIU) and Advisor B about this.

Blago was most anxious to talk Jarrett and Pres.-Elect Advisor about the 501(c)(4) option, but the information in the complaint stops before the response of BO’s team to that proposal is known. Possibly more about that is part of wiretapped conversations after 11/13.

Good analysis and points noted, though I don’t understand your reasoning for VJ’s withdrawal.

The unexpected announcement by 0 that he was going to resign his senate seat early to put pressure on Blago came after VJ bowed out. I can’t get passed that ...

To: maggief

My reasoning for VJ’s withdrawal comes from this:

Conversation 15: November 10, 2008

* Blagojevich and Advisor A discuss the open Senate seat again
* Blagojevich asks Advisor A to leak to the Chicago Sun-Times that he is seriously considering Jesse Jackson, Jr., for the open Senate seat
* Blagojevich considers this to be another threat to the Obama campaign, who still desires Jarrett
* It is clear that Blagojevich has not intention of selection Jackson; he simply hopes to apply pressure to the Obama campaign

Also, checking out the phone calls from Nov. 11-13, Blago is very desperate to get the word to both Jarrett and Pres.-Elect Advisor about the option of the 501(c)(4). So he hasn’t burned the bridges with Jarrett yet. He still wants her to be part of the deal.
