You've heard all about the disputes: "Silent Night" banned at the "holiday" program, artistic references to the Bible censored and faith-inclusive children's programs facing discrimination.
Now some people are fed up with public school treatment of Christianity and have launched a campaign calling for a rescue of kids from government education programs a "Call to Dunkirk."

Amen.

IIRC, the Southern Baptist Convention nearly passed a resolution calling for their members to remove their children from public schools.
There’s hope for the Republic yet, ‘mongst the ‘bitter clingers’.
;-)
My kids go to a great school where Christmas songs were sung and many teachers are Christians. I do not support such a move.
My priest and his wife are home-schooling. Rev Dr. M_ and Dr. M_ — I think they’re qualified...
You clearly do not live in the Pacific Northwest.
Must ping this out tomorrow.
“the Southern Baptist Convention nearly passed a resolution “
I find the “nearly” part puzzling.
My “family resolution” is that my children will never set foot in one of the pagan academies AKA socialist government schools.
I like tradition, so it cuts against the grain, but we can never just give up and walk away.
Christians are not called to hide themselves from the world or to become outraged over the lack of "Silent Night" in a school program. We are called to be the "salt of the earth." This whole concept of forcing Christianity through the school-house door also has the Pandora's box backlash of opening up the door to Islamics. If Christians have rights inside school, why not the Islamics? If Christians as Mr. Sekulow would have it, can post a bulletin in the school hall bulletin board announcing Bible School, doesn't that mean that Muslims can do the same? We are unwittingly litigating rights for Muslims, Bhuddists, and who knows what else.
Its much better for Christians to interact with non-Christians in public schools on a person-to-person basis and leave the Bible teaching and honoring Christ to Sunday School where it belongs. So many students have been reached by Christian friends who have prayed and led them to Christ.
If we withdraw from the world, we withdraw from the "Great Commission" which is to preach the Gospel to the world.
Fight against the foolish teachings of evolution theory, but don't stop going to public schools because they won't play "Silent Night."
What would make an impact is a refusal to pay school taxes. Let it be just a one time thing to catch the attention of the media—and the school board. But enough people have to be involved to make the amounts large enough to care about. I think this is called civil disobedience.
I think the issue is the refusal of the public schools to accomodate the opinions of their clients. Once upon a time they did it. Schools in Mississippi were practically Protestant parochial schools. In many Catholic areas, they gave heavy respect to Catholics. Nowadays they give similar respect to minorities but trash the opinions of the majority.
“My kids go to a great school where Christmas songs were sung and many teachers are Christians. I do not support such a move.”
A choice that you, as a parent, have a right to make for yourself and your own family.
However, the property tax system which funds government schools does not afford Christians the right to equitably direct our family resources to a non-government school (or home school).
My children have only gone to Christian schools, but I’ll tell you — it’s getting to the point where we just don’t know how long we can continue to afford spending 18k/year. I’ll start selling our furniture first, but sheesh. We don’t take vacations. We don’t go to the movies. We still don’t have window treatments up in some parts of the house (just paper), but I’ll keep scraping together the money for as long as I can.
I hope great men like Governor Sanford will be able to restore American Christian virtues.
I've been saying this for years. The individual churches should set up organizations to help their members to home school with an aim to setting up schools at the larger churches. Almost all of our founders were educated at home by their mothers from the Bible and look how they turned out. But we must be ever vigilant over our children for there are people in the church leadership who are in it for the power over others and the money.
The main reason we are in the trouble we are in is because we the people have not kept a close eye on those we have elected and the ones they have appointed. Like a pack of fools when the MSM stepped up and told us they would do the watching for us we trusted them and fell for their con-job. The MSM is in cahoots with politicians. Where do you think most that campaign money gets spent, with the media. And they claim that they are not biased to the one who pays them the most.

Did so a generation ago. Working on my next generation...
OTHERS are not so fortunate. Have some sympathy for them and support CHOICE - VOUCHERS!
I’ve heard all those arguments before.
The argument that young Christian children can be salt and light is laughable and unbelievable naive. The broad purpose of government schooling is to indoctrinate children in secular humanism. They are very successful at accomplishing that goal. It is no surprise then that about 80% of Christian children who enter the government school system leave with a very unChristian secular humanist, socialist worldview.
But don’t take my word for it. If one wants to be an informed Christian, one needs to do one’s own research. I recommend reading Bruce Shortt’s book “The Harsh Truth About Public Schools”. He is far more convincing than I could ever possibly be.
I personally don’t want to reform the government school system. I would love to see it shut down, but would settle for the return of my tax dollars so that I can use them for my children’s Christian education.
