Obama says he always thought Bush was a 'good guy'

BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio (CNN) -- After two years of traveling around the country and criticizing President Bush, President-elect Barack Obama said Friday that he "always thought [Bush] was a good guy."

Barack Obama tells CNN's John King that it was "tough" for him to request the additional bailout funds.

"I mean, I think personally he is a good man who loves his family and loves his country," Obama said in an exclusive interview with CNN's John King.

During the election season, Obama frequently campaigned against what he called Bush's "failed policies" and promised a "clean break" from the past eight years.

Asked if there was anything he wanted to take back, now that he has spent more time with the president, Obama praised Bush's team for helping with a smooth transition and said part of what America is about is being able to have "disagreements politically and yet treat each other civilly."

Obama also said he thought Bush made "the best decisions that he could at times under some very difficult circumstances."

"Obama says he always thought Bush was a 'good guy'..."

But he said that about Bill Ayes and Reverend Wright.

“Obama also said he thought Bush made “the best decisions that he could at times under some very difficult circumstances.” “

I wonder what Obama has been learning in his briefings on national security.

this vapid punk is clueless -- at best. at worst, he's putting a civil face on a malicious soul.

A coworker and I chatted today about how it’s amazing that as his intel briefings have continued his positions on a great many things have shifted from what they were on the campaign trail.

If America knew half what he’s found out over the last month or so this country would be a very different place to live.

That reminds of of what a Yonkers cop use to tell me. “If you knew what we found every night you would be afraid to walk out of your house”.

What the likes of Obama may or may not think of a man like President Bush (yes, I STILL admire him) is irrelevant.

I agree with that 100%! Like I’ve said I think liberals are going to be much more dissappointed than we are with his Presidency. I’m going to hate what he does but it is going to make them scream bloody murder when the economy tanks while his polices push prices higher and higher. We can just smile then and say “we tried to tell you but you were too drunk on the kool-aid”

Then again, were the liberals upset with clinton after he was done? Nope!

I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high for them turning on their messiah!

If America knew half before the election it would have turned out very differently.

Might we have another Clinton on our hands rather than McGovern with political skills?

Not a great choice, but I guess I would take Clinton (in terms of political pragmatism) over taking the country way left.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Obama IS far left, and he will drag there as far as he can.....but I think he wants to be powerful, in charge and perceived as popular MORE than push agenda. IF the GOP gets their...uhm...fortitude back, they, maybe, can drag him back to the center ( or recreate the center)

The question is, will Obama overreach like Clinton did to provide an opening? He seems VERY aware of the Clinton and Reagan moves from a historical perspective.

Of course, if the GOP doesn’t get its brain back it won’t matter anyway. In addition, we are in a world where a President who the left and media portray as a far right conservative, approved of nationalizing (de facto) Banks.....the perception game is waaaaaaaaaaaay out of whack right now. It will take time to adjust it.

I never thought the rats really believed that Bush was wrong - but they wanted us to think he was so they could get back in power. This makes them even worse RATS. They'd destroy their own mothers if it meant getting more power.

That's just bigger'n helluvya, Bammy. Tough as it has been to support Bush lately, you're not fit to fill his shoes.
