A Day in the Life of President Bush (many photos): 1-16-09

More lasts today …

This morning President & Mrs. Bush departed the White House for Camp David, Maryland, where they will spend their last weekend as the First Couple before Tuesday’s inauguration.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gave her final press conference today at the State Department in Washington. She also met with Israel’s Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. Dr. Rice’s last official act as Secretary of State was signing a memorandum with Foreign Minister Livni that will help prevent arms smuggling to terrorists in Gaza.

And today Press Secretary Dana Perino delivered the Administration’s final press briefing (Transcript). Dana took time to pay tribute to her predecessor Tony Snow and to all the members of the White House press staff. But one name was conspicuously absent from her remarks.

Q Dana, you mentioned Ari and Tony, but I don't think I heard you mention Scott. Was that a slight or was that -- was anything deliberate --

Dana: No harm meant, I just didn't mention him.

What did you think of his comments [on MSNBC] last night?

Dana: I didn't bother watching them.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

“I could say goodbye, let him go off and get a rest for a change, if it were not for that freight train headed our way after he leaves.”

This is exactly the way I feel. Zero has been telling us all along what he's going to do, and I have no reason to doubt it. I'm afraid that everything that has been built up the past 8 years is going to be destroyed. We thought Clinton was bad, this is going to be many times worse.

I posted this back on Nov 6th, but I think it got lost in all the post election chatter:

To snugs and all who have posted here day after day:

I want to let you know that I have looked forward to “sanity island” every day and been grateful that you were here to post the pictures and provide the comments. I don’t know what I’ll do when there is no “day in the life of President Bush” to appreciate every day.

I have lurked but not posted, simply because what you have done says it all. I believe there are many of us out here you may not have heard from but who share your commitment to George W. Bush, Laura Bush, the Cheneys, et al. I still support them 1000%. I’m not sure what we’ll do without them, but I’m glad they might finally get a well deserved rest from all the responsibility.

Thanks, to you too - silent_jonny.

I think that's the first picture of former AG Ashcroft I've seen since his retirement. He looks healthy. I hope he is.

Vice-president Cheney looked tired. I hope he is well.

The last two speeches I've heard the President make, I get the distinct impression that he is choosing his words carefully when speaking about Obama; telling the public it will be all right, but he doesn't really mean it.
