Skip to comments.Corporate America sells Obama, message of change

The guys hawking Barack Obama T-shirts and trinkets on the corners of downtown Washington have some new competition in the selling frenzy building up to the president-elect's inauguration Tuesday Corporate America.
Companies ranging from global giants like soda and snacks maker PepsiCo to a local grocery chain offering cakes with Obama's face in icing are jumping on the Obama commercial wave. Others, like the Swedish home store Ikea, are hoping consumers take Obama's mantra of "change" to heart so much that they go out and buy furniture to mark the change in the White House.
It is relatively rare for corporations leery of alienating consumers with any whiff of politics to associate themselves with a political figure, according to marketing experts. But at a time when many Americans have snapped their wallets shut during a grinding recession, the groundswell of popularity that Obama has generated with his upbeat campaign themes, along with the symbolism he brings as the nation's first black president, are likely too good for many battered retailers to pass up.
"This occasion is more exciting than most presidential inaugurations," said Noel Hankin, senior vice president for multicultural relations for Hennessy, which is selling a limited edition bottle of cognac with the number "44" on it to mark Obama's spot in the line of presidents. "We think this is an appropriate way to celebrate and honor him."

Will these people ever realize that Obama is just a man, NOT some “god”?????
This is sickening idolatry which has only one end: catastrophic failure.
Glad he’s being put high on a pedastal... it will make the fall such much more enjoyable.
"The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.
The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them."
The Communist Party USA (CPUSA):
"We are a party of unity in action. We are an integral part of every struggle and movement for change to eliminate poverty and joblessness, against racism and for full equality. We are participants, initiators and leaders of every movement to make life better now and much better in a socialist future." Yeah, so they supported an oppressive dictator, like the Repubs and Democrats haven't? The CP is still around, has apologized for that whole Stalin thing, and has a quickly growing youth section.

Saul Alinsky on "Change"...
From Rules for Radicals, Alinsky outlines his strategy in organizing, writing:
"There's another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevsky said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution."
Saul Alinsky, The Latter Rain
Congratulations on an extraordinary history making election!
We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-peoples movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all peoples movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.
The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and peoples unity.
There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.
The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.
"Barack Obama told supporters that
'change has come to America' as he
claimed victory in a historic presidential election."

CBS is on this bandwagon with graphics that imitate the obama posters and flashing some kind of obama symbol between the evening show previews.
Yes, those were created by his personal 'i-con' artist Shepard Fairey.
From Barack Obama's official website:
I wanted to make an art piece of Barack Obama because I thought an iconic portrait of him could symbolize and amplify the importance of his mission. I believe Obama will guide this country to a future where everyone can thrive and I should support him vigorously for the sake of my two young daughters. I have made art opposing the Iraq war for several years, and making art of Obama, who opposed the war from the start, is like making art for peace. I know I have an audience of young art fans and Im delighted if I can encourage them to see the merits of Barack Obama.
See? It's all about "peace, love, togetherness" and "change".
Here are some of Fairey's other masterpieces. No joke. Most of his works are along these same lines (anti-American, pro-communist propaganda). Check the link.
From Shepard Fairey's official website (ObeyGiant.com):
Check it out! I got a thank you note from Barack Obama. If he is elected, maybe I have a get out of jail free card. All kidding aside, Im honored to be acknowledged by someone so important to the future of our country. Also, the Obama campaign asked me to do a poster illustration for sale on their site. It should be out next week on barackobama.com.-Shepard
Here is the 'thank you' letter Barack Obama sent to Shepard Fairey:
"Dear Shepard, I would like to thank you for using your talent in support of my campaign. The political messages involved in your work have encouraged Americans to believe they can help change the status quo. Your images have a profound effect on people, whether seen in a gallery or on a stop sign. I am privileged to be a part of your artwork and proud to have your support. I wish you continued success and creativity.
Sincerely, Barack Obama.'"

Here are some other works by Obama's icon artist, Shepard Fairey. They're of Lenin, Mao, Stalin and a North Korean soldier. I tried posting the images directly, but for some reason they vanish.
Title: "Communists Print Set":
And here is what appears to be an index of his entire collection. I suggest clicking on his images of Lenin, Mao, Stalin, Bobby Seale (Black Panther leader) and then, finally, Bush. The list is organized in alphabetical order. And remember as you are viewing these pics, his tight, working relationship with Barack H. Obama, the next president of the United States. It is beyond belief (but absolutely true).
Saw during the ball game yesterday that CBS was running commercials for its Monday night lineup using Obama’s themes, repeating “yes we can”, and showing the actors in the red, white outlines of Obama’s posters.
Second Rule of business: violate the First Rule and you are out of business.
Who do you suppose will get tapped to head the Zed Customer Complaints and Returns Department? More so, who do you suppose will tapped to run crowd control for that department?
This man is his own undoing. A foundation built on shifting sands; feet of clay; stolen birthright; golden calf. . . .
His own will turn on him, not to him, when he fails do deliver on the deception--I mean promise. American Idol or American idle? You mean there's a difference in this case? ;)
Be of good cheer and strong heart. I know how this story turns out. I read it in a Book. Have Faith. God never throws us a pitch we can't catch.
“God never throws us a pitch we can’t catch.”
AMEN! Thank you so much for the encouragement!
More places NOT to spend my money. Krispy Kreme is in, Starbucks made my no no list a long time ago.
...I’m a thinkin about blowing up my telly, turnin off my radio, logging off FR fer a few days, because I’m starting to puke blood and bile, call me in a few days, cause I’m “Rip Van Winkle” ing fer a while...
...Take care FRiends...
It is so very true with both of your statements. The good book says “pride comes before a fall and a haughty spirit before destruction” We see this in brazen abundance. Obama has become the golden calf of a large number of the American people.
And don't give me that baloney about hurting American jobs and the economy. We're way past the point where that matters in relation to the highjacking of our country.
It kind of reminds you of Jurassic Park doesn’t it? All of the hype and money spent in the place ends up becoming an unmitigated disaster.
Like watching a train wreck in slow motion...
I am as guilty as anyone of doing that. Please forgive me.
Look, FRiends, even at our worst we are still better than they are at their best. Yes; we are getting battered and banged around. It's a test of our mettle, and a way for God to show us through ourselves just how resilient, forgiving, and persevering we truly are.
Do not be humiliated but humbled. See in this just how important your one--not lone--voice, vote, and will to fight truly are to and in the grand scheme of things. Seek until you find the larger picture in the detail that is you. Speak up so that those who stand beside you will take courage.
Yes, it may appear we are surrounded. GOOD. Borrowing from the words of those who repeatedly stood far more bravely and Faithfully in the face of situations far more grave and dire than those we face, “That simplifies the problem,” and, “Now we can attack in all directions.”
FRiends? This IS their best game. Not just their best response to us, their only response to us. They sold their souls for this “win,” while we steadfastly clung to ours. Like their man said of us, “They cling to their guns and religion.” Tangibles. Sure enough.
On the other hand, they, like him, cling to what? The winds of change? What is that?
Apparently, they have yet to grasp the axiom of "the more things change, the more they remain the same. ;)
Keep the Faith. Really. It is enough.
I can proudly say that I avoided all Pepsi, Lipton, and Frito-Lay products at the grocery store yesterday. It’s the least I could do.
The thing I can’t handle about all this is the left is acting like this is some kind of coronation.
Many of these businesses are staffed by conservatives, but are simply responding to their customers. My wife owns a business, and she has been recently selling an item with Obama’s image on it. She calls me throughout the day to tell me about the blissed-out Obamatons who buy the product. It is just a marketing angle, and nothing more. She is hardly “contributing” to Obama. Quite the contrary.
Does she also sell other objectionable things like images of kiddie porn? It’s called having a standard. Some folks would make money off their kids bodies, other people chose a standard to live by. It’s the great American way.
To equate child porn with an image of Obama is ludicrous. At the very least, you are trivializing child pornography.
I might boycott a company because the company has expressed a political or ideological alliance with Dems or Obama, but the image itself is neutral. In this case, some of the profits will fund the reelection campaigns of Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn. But this is none of the business of the Obama supporters buying her product, nor should it be their business.
LOL,if you think so.
In regard to what?
Sounds like good old fashioned capitalism to me.
Capitalism isn't perfect
