I am sorry you are so unhappy. I am quite cheerful, despite Obama being sworn in tomorrow. The reason for this is that I do not allow my happiness or unhappiness to be dictated by any individual.
It is a lesson I learned from Barbara Bush. She said we decide how we react to people, and we decide whether or not we are happy. I found those to be wise words.

1. I provide another view of history other than yours, which I find to be negative and destructive.
2. When you address me, I am not going to leave a charge unanswered. (One of the mistakes I do think President Bush made.)
3. When you ask me a question (like you just did) I am going to answer it.
To me, they are hero’s not criminals.
They should have been pardoned.
That's not your job. People are allowed to have conservative opinions on FR.

Free speech allows all of us to provide OUR view of what is going on, which will one day be history. If my grandkids come to this site a few years from now and read your view of the United States as a dictatorship or monarchy during the Bush years, I want them to know that their grandmother stood up and said you were wrong.

It would be difficult for most people to call me a “Bush hater”. I voted for him twice, contributed to his campaign financially and as a volunteer and protested when Gore tried to steal the election in 2000.
That said, along with a number of other excretory things he has done over the past 8 years this leaves me cold.
They are out of jail. That is good. Thank you Mr. President. And thanks for not waiting until tomorrow morning at about 11:59AM to commute their sentences. You could have left them in prison for another day and still taken credit for releasing them but you didn’t.
On the other hand, their names were not cleared. The unjust convictions still stand. As convicted felons they can never work in law enforcement again. As convicted felons they cannot even obtain a CFL.
If the President had had the moral courage to grant them the full pardons they deserve I for one would hold him in much higher esteem.
Have they already been released? I thought I read where they wouldn't be released until March 20th.
I didn't see the release date and assumed the commutation was immediate. Looks like I misjudged President Bush again.
I agree, they should be home tonight. But no, they get to stay in there for two more months. At least they know they will be going home soon.

We were once friends...
..and I have always admired your ability to think on your feet and figure out political machinations and what it might mean.
..you have a good command of words and ideas.
We were both drawn to this site for our own reasons, but there was a common ground on many levels.
We have lost sight of common goals, I think, because our nation has lost sight....
Instead of working together, we fight amongst each other.
We both will answer to our Maker one of these days and that weighs on my heart.
I know God is sovereign.......I know HE has already won, no matter what happens today, or tomorrow or the next day.
I know he understands the innermost workings of George Bush's heart, whether I do or not....and will judge him accordingly, as He will judge me, you, and everyone else.
I know we are in a battle for good or evil....it really is that simple.
But in closing, may I suggest WE ALL stop the name calling & callous disregard for opinions of others.
There are many here, myself included, who are trying to work out, in our minds, what happened to our country and how we might, if possible, fix it.
We are scared, confused and floundering a bit.
Some of us thought George Bush was our ally....and yes, we should credit him with things he did right....but can still be disapointed with things he did wrong, especially toward the conservative base.
Yes, we have to get past this....but damage has been done and its hard to know which direction to go.
Yes, I have been bitter....and I need to put away the bitterness.....as it is destructive and not helpful in thinking clearly toward a solution.
Thanks to Jim Robinson we have this giant bully pulpit where we can discuss, share ideas and try to effect change.
But when folks start arguing and name calling....we all lose.
Free Republic attracts good, great people who want to make a positive difference......
..it also attracts those who wish us harm by disruptive behavior....who infiltrate to harrass and annoy.
I need to let George Bush go.....he is answerable to God now for what he did or didn't do....
...We now have a man in the highest office of the land who may not work for our common good....who may bring us to a world of hurt...
..but we are called to pray for him ....
..and I pray God will change the channels of his heart .....

I should have made it clear — a 250k fine & 2 years probation from a conviction for NO REASON is hardly my idea of justice for Scooter Libby. He deserves a full pardon without condition.

IMHO, your reaction is odd. What is wrong about keeping a post for seven years? Even older posts have been saved on FR and can be found with just simple research.
What I found odd about it, Dante, was the petty nature of the reason for it. Certainly, posts have been saved that are informative, or that indicate that the poster was on to something important at the time.
To save a post for 7 years for the purpose of “getting back at” someone in a nasty and personal way strikes me as bizarre and rather childish.
I have many threads from FR saved as a research tool. In the early years that was one of the stated purposes of FR.
I can still remember my thrill of joy the day that old harpie “shunned” me. Her, Howlin and the other harpies would target a conservative and then bait and torture a victim until he lost his temper and posted a rude response. Then they would begin to file abuse reports. By the time the victim realized he had been setup, he was banned by a harpie-friendly moderator. The harpie gang didn’t get broken up until they were so bold as to pick an argument with the owner. My “shunning” was a harpie tactical error, it broke up the attack on me. It was funny as hell.
On this thread, that old harpie, after all these years, started the first step of her old routine. You Bahbah, fell right in line like so many dupes did in the old days. YOu were so sure you knew what was going on and you moved in to assist in the kill.
That old harpie gets joy out of damaging anyone who disagrees with her RINO agenda. You don’t know the real hurt she did to wonderful conservatives back them. She can go back to her anti-FR friends - or, maybe she did them all in and is back looking for new victims.
