Lt. Starbuck … Lost In Castration.

Once upon a time, in what used to be a far away land called Hollywood (but is now a state of mind and everywhere), a young actor was handed a script and asked to bring to life a character called Starbuck. I am that actor. The script was called “Battlestar Galactica.”

Fortunately, I was young, my imagination fertile and adrenal glands strong, because bringing Starbuck to life was over the dead imaginations of a lot of Network Executives...

Witness the “re-imagined” “Battlestar Galactica,” bleak, miserable, despairing, angry and confused. Which is to say, it reflects in microcosm the complete change in the politics and morality of today’s world, as opposed to the world of yesterday. The world of Lorne Greene (Adama), Fred Astaire (Starbuck’s Poppa) and Dirk Benedict (Starbuck). I would guess Lorne is glad he’s in that Big Bonanza in the sky and well out of it. Starbuck, alas, has not been so lucky. He’s not been left to pass quietly into that trivial world of cancelled TV characters...

The original BSG really wasn't very good. I understand the "re-imagined" version is vastly superior. I wouldn't know. I've never seen it. When they decided to be politically correct and "re-imagine" Starbuck and Boomer into women, I immediately wrote them off.

I was a kid when the original was on - I LOVED it. The new BSG sucks. Granted, there are hot women on the new version, no doubt, but that’s the only thing the new has over the old.

Just my opinion, of course.

When they decided to be politically correct and "re-imagine" Starbuck and Boomer into women, I immediately wrote them off.

You are imagining political correctness where there is none and you are allowing your prejudice to keep you from the single best show on television.

Well, if 99.99% of the human race were wiped out and you're one of the few survivors I would expect it to be bleak, miserable, despairing, angry and confused.

Also, Starbuck version 2.0 could kick Starbuck-classic's butt every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Disagree, it is a confused muddle IMO, they attempted to make “Lost” but with BSG as the vehicle.

Now production values are better but that is a matter of the Technology not so much the plot lines.

The new BSG has its moments, but it is boring as all feminine things are. I’m suprised that the show just doesn’t end with everyone just giving up and taking a handful of tranquilizers.

Its TV. Its not real. The stories are decent and the actors are pretty good. The effects are well done.

Fixed it. For some reason Benedict has a big 'ol burr up his arse about the new show which is so far suprior to the original a comparison of the two is not apples to oranges but apples to wax fruit.

I could go on and on. Star Trek the original was great because there were all sorts of people there who were chosen because they were the best, today, the gays and libs just want to bring their view of reality into our homes, where women, gays and minorities run everything, and the rest of us take a back seat. The only place where something like this exists is on film.

True, but it wasn't restricted to just sci-fi, all the silly detective stories as well. Only on film does a little 5 foot 110 pound average woman kick a six foot 200 pound man ass.

Benedict is just bitter cause Kara Thrace has a bigger set than his Starbuck ever had.

The series is much better than the original. If anything, it is very true to the underlying story of the original while telling a story of tragedy and loss.
