A top economic adviser to President Obama has told a congressional panel the billions of dollars in the proposed economic stimulus plan should be allocated with social issues in mind, to make sure the money doesn't go to just "white male construction workers" or the highly skilled.
Robert Reich, who served as labor secretary under President Clinton, was speaking to the House Steering and Policy Committee Jan. 7 about funding infrastructure projects across the nation.
"It seems to me that infrastructure spending is a very important and good way of stimulating the economy. The challenge will be to do it quickly, to find projects that can be done that will have a high social return, that also can be done with the greatest speed possible," Reich said.
"I am concerned, as I'm sure many of you are, that these jobs not simply go to high skilled people who are already professionals or to white male construction workers," he said.

I hate to repeat this, but government sponsored racism has been occurring for some years now, right under Bush’s nose and the Republican majority.
Imagine being a white guy looking for job, and the first thing you see on a job ad is, “Minorities and women encouraged to apply”.
In other words, “male whites” need not apply.
Construction is the only job that white males are allowed to do these days, they certainly aren’t allowed any other jobs due to affirmative action, unless of course they are college educated. What do they want? To completely destroy those who are still willing to work for a living? Will they please leave these hardworking family men alone? The other men could do it do if they weren’t so busy living off their girlfrinds on welfare.

And at the same meeting Charlie Rangel opined that they didn’t just want to send the money to the states without strings attached because the states would want to spend it on projects they wanted without perhaps sending it to minorities in the cities - should make the state legislators happy.....
Translation: Let's use the ruse of 'infrastructure spending' to socially engineer redistribution of wealth to everyone but those paying the most taxes or the most qualified to do the work.

I saw a friend of mine who is a civil engineer. He said he has given up on hiring any one under 30, because most of the younger men today have trouble even reading a ruler. He told me that he has been unable to find anyone this year who could even add simple fractions correctly.
He also said that most of the younger people have no work ethic, and only show up when they want to. He is not a racist, he has a racially mixed crew. Also. when he has bothered to train a younger man, the guy usually leaves for someone who will pay him a little more. According to him the younger generation have no concept of loyalty.
If any one person with a high school diploma can not even read a ruler, than what good is that diploma?
We are in trouble, because a significant proportion of the younger generation will not be able to handle basic construction jobs. I know that I do not want to go over a bridge that will be built by one of these unskilled workers.
