LOL. Say that three times, very fast.
She’s no Catholic.
“And God forbid we do anything to help the environment in the meanwhile. So what if his son benefits off this; doesnt it do good in the broader view?”
Depends. Are they going to use any of this money to try to rid the armed Mexican drug cartels from growing dope all over thousands of acres of our national parks and forests? Most of our local law enforcement funds go to that end.
LOL! :-)
Ever have one of those political years when you feel like Alice falling through the looking glass?!? ;-)
Wow, just joined FR ->TODAY<- and you can’t believe how “shortsighted” we are? Bwahahahaha!!!
Yes.....Nancy Pelosi is the Red Queen.
You get tired of posting on DU?
No wonder San Francisco keeps electing her!!! ;-)
LOL. Rimshot!
I actually just received a call at work today about someone complaining about the Obey connection in regards to the National Park Service, so I decided to do a little research on the topic to see the facts behind this. Then I found this blog thread pretty quickly. I can understand how there appears to be a dubious link, but I feel like there is a legitimate need for these funds. You guys can interpret all this however you want, I just thought I would throw in a view from the other side since you guys appear to be preaching to the choir (btw, that metaphor wasn’t meant to be disparaging). Also, to the guy below, I have no clue what DU is.
How about you continue your research around here before you start preachin’ here, NOOBIE. That is $3,000,000,000 of pork that is taken by force from the taxpayers for the Park Service to friggin do what? How about those in favor of this theivery, like you, go ahead and send the PS a check and get your buds to do so if it is such a desirable item. Leave the rest of us alone.
No problem sharing counter viewpoints here. :-)
Just a little suspicious when someone’s very first post is critical of other posters here right off the bat!
And DU is “Demoncratic Underground” a VERY, UBER-LIBERAL website that sends trolls here periodically to stir up things with bothersome posts. [waves madly at DUmmy trolls lurking about]
;-)
D’oh, Yosemite is gonna need some serious redecorating after that caldera blows!!
/loony libbie environmentalist off
LOL.
Can you blame me for having such a critical post after reading the first 5 or 10 on this thread? It just seems to be mostly flaming remarks rather than anything substantive. And to reply to the remarks about the gov’t stealing your money and such: that’s what the gov’t does!! There are so many ways the gov’t wastes money, but spending on maintenance and construction will at least contract jobs out. Even if the work is over-priced, it will at least “stimulate” the economy like the bill intends, compared to giving $billions to one man to give out to banks and such that still throw expensive parties then ask for more. The Park Service has a clear need for money, and I’m sure most of you will think I’m crazy for saying this, but I think we should preserve wildlife if we can. Also considering the parks are open to the public for a very minimal price, it truly does benefit the public. Comment on this remark if you want, but I don’t care to be roasted considering I never intended to come back to this website in the first place. Maybe you guys will be able to convince me of your side if you keep me coming back.
It appears that you have no problem with the pay to play issue here with the crook Congressman Obey getting a $2B payoff for his idiot son, working a patronage job, VP Government Services @ the PS. Once again what is the money used for...Trail Maintenance??? Jeez, if you are as naive as you appear to be, don’t waste time on FR, you need to go back to the minors....read the Constitution and try again.
Great, if it’s such a worthwhile endeavor, put it in an appropriations bill where it belongs. The point is, it doesn’t belong in a stimulus bill when it does nothing to stimulate the economy. It only funds government programs. Plus it looks suspicious when things like this get attached to bills they don’t belong with, especially those bills that are being rammed through congress at the speed this one is.
How is it that I am the naive one when I am in support of certain federal government projects? I wouldn’t have to see the crap you put out if it wasn’t for certain wasteful government projects that ended up with the development of the internet. Is that in the constitution? You like to complain unless there are benefits on paper in front of you. What about all the quid pro quo that goes on in the government? Do you really think any bill would pass through congress if it didn’t in some way benefit others? I’m not necessarily defending that system, but clearly the “free market” system many of you advocate doesn’t work as well as it does theoretically, just like communism. What about the horrible labor conditions during the early twentieth century; is that laissez faire at its finest? And as much as many of you complain about socialism, didn’t Bush support bailing out banks? That sounds like socialism to me. Let alone the fact that Canada has the most stable economy in the world.
Like I said before, use some substantial facts and don’t sling petty insults like telling me to go back to the minors. Are you threatened by my presence? All I ask is for you to treat me with some respect and I will return the same, otherwise you come off as an immature fanboy.
This message is directed toward iopscusa, but if anyone else wants to continue with the insults, you are alienating yourselves and your ideals.
I don’t think it necessarily supports government programs if it’s going toward maintenance, which probably will be contracted out (I’m not an expert). This means that the money goes toward a nongovernment organization to do work that helps out public land. And as for speeding the bill through congress: I wholeheartedly agree that that isn’t the way to go. I know this doesn’t defend the actions, but if you supported all the bills Bush rushed through congress, then you have less leverage to point out the flaw in this one.
Civics isn’t your strong point, is it? The executive branch can’t put bills through congress. So, “all the bills Bush rushed through congress” is laughable at best and more likely an attempt to deceive a gullible audience, of which I’m not a member. So, let’s review. A democrat controlled congress wrote, porked up, and passed TARP. And for the record, I didn’t support that travesty, either.
Honey, with each word that ‘comes out of your mouth’, you are branding yourself as a liberal troll—
but then again, that’s just me, sleep deprived as I am, maybe taking your tone as a newbie to be a bit harsh and somewhat like HolyO’s, all sweetness and light at first in disguise, then BAM! the hammer comes down!
How long did you say you’ve been lurking around FR? ‘Cause if it’s just been today, then, you haven’t lurked enough to get a feel for this forum (nope, we ain’t a blog!) FReepers tend to speak their mind, if you are just now noticing. :-)
