There is a lot of truth in that, but the big reason for the multi-generational loyalty is the consistency of the franchise. They don't do the media "drama queen" thing like other "America's Teams".
There is consistency -- win or lose. Three head coaches in 40 years. No total a-holes kept with the team just because of their physical talent. No big money paid to an aging free agent star just for PR purposes.
As a Steeler fan since even before the Chuck Noll era, I always know that next season, win or lose, it will be about just football not some Hollywood BS. They may not be the best next year, but they will, without question, do their best to be the best.
That is all any fan can ask for. Six Lombardi trophies is just icing on the cake and a reward for doing the right thing. Seeing good competitive football each week is the best thing. Keep doing that for 40 years and any team can win six.
