Steele: GOP Should Reach Out To Gay, Pro-Choice Voters
Video Cafe (via Fox News) ^ | Feburary 1, 2009 | David Sunday

Posted on 02/02/2009 9:17:17 AM PST by UCFRoadWarrior

Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.

WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.

STEELE: Yes.

(watch video)

WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?

STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

why does steele ASSUME they will not change their pro-homosexual, pro-abortion view to the Republican position?

Why is steel surrendering before the battle?

Man of Steele or man of jello?

***Maybe I’ve lost some faith in our leaders. They all seem to disappoint me these days.

Man of steel, man of jello or a creampuff. We’ll see.***

Great. Forget him, then. We need to totally deconstruct the GOP and rebuild it from the ground up. Conservatives need to go completely outside and around the “leadership”.

Don't be obtuse. Reagan rec'd approx 100 million votes in two elections. Do you not think there were any pro-abort people casting their votes for him? I personally know women who are pro-abort, one or two who had an abortion, that did so.

Steele: GOP Should Reach Out To Gay, Pro-Choice Voters

No. The GOP should reach out to voters who think they have more than enough government in their lives. That probably includes a lot of gay Americans. That probably includes a lot of pro-choice voters. That probably includes a lot of black Americans. The point is to sell our party not as a party of divisiveness and special-interests but as a party of ideas and individuals. Less government means more freedom. Lower taxes mean we spend our own money as we choose and thoughtfully, rather than wastefully to pay off big donors (TARP).

Don't let the door slam you in the rear on your way out!
Steele is the face and voice of the party... as was dean for his... and steele is a liberal... so I cannot and will not accept his ideology as mine... and if you did not notice... the press has only covered his liberal ideology. Either Reaganism returns to the republicrat party or millions of us with the $$$ will leave! I have already resigned from the national party.

People, some of you sound a little strict about whom you’d want in your political party. Right now, the term “conservative” includes economic conservatives, atheists, Jews, gays, and a lot of others besides Christian conservatives.

Really, there are so many Americans of various stripes who believe in FREEDOM of religion, FREEDOM of lifestyle choice, and a FREE economy. If we want to emphasize the FREEDOMS the Founders enumerated for us, we need to include anyone who feels as we do about them.

They MIGHT not be exactly like you. And there might be things we need to win people over to, hearts-and-minds and all, but we need MORE Americans who will fight with us for liberty, not less.

We don't win by being them; we win by doing something the RNC hasn't done in ages--act as conservative Republicans. Because what we're selling IS better--we just have to SELL it.

EXCELLENT!

(and we can't sell it unless we get people in the showroom!)

that is silly.

if anything it means conservatives are even MORE important in the Republican party.

You have dinner with the tax collector, not the pious, because THAT is where you are needed.

The is a clarion call for conservatives to go to your LOCAL GOP club and be heard and TAKE POSITIONS in that local GOP.

Steele has no power but that which the locals ALLOW him.

conservatives are needed LOCALLY.

You are a libertarian... nothing wrong with that... but not all libertarians are Conservative... thus the LIB in Libertarian. Read Reagan's words on abortion and homosexuality that I posted earlier... that is the heart of Conservatism professed by the FATHER of Modern Conservatism... also read the Declaration of Independence... those babies are guaranteed LIFE and just because some activist judge skewed the law does not make it the right thing to embrace. The problem with America is that it was CREATED and FOUNDED by staunch Christian men... and every moment since it has been attacked by the GODless and feminized by those with pink bunny slippers!

Yes, but after years working in a school, and more years seeing great parents turning out great kids

Well I m a long retired teacher, and I can tell you that the great parents you are talking about represent about 10% of the school population. We are losing the other 90% because their parents don't step up, and neither do we.

Michael Steele made those statements to CNSNews on December 16, 2008.....ONE MONTH AGO. It is an in-depth interview regarding life/gay/education issues and how he sees leading as the RNC Chairman. It's a serious look at who he is currently.

Let’s wait to see what the strategy is going to be.

If by reaching out to abortionists and gays, he means changing out conservative policies...then Houston, we have a problem.

If he means taking our core beliefs of lower taxes and smaller government to gays and abortionists, I have no problem.

Before we get all in a rage, let’s see what the intent of the strategy is.

From the article;

WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.

STEELE: Yes.

I'd say it's pretty clear what the strategy is going to be...

For someone professing tolerance... you are certainly intolerable of those listed religions... yes... for many people worship all of those false gods. Want to call Reagan an enemy of Liberty?... for all that I do is profess Reagan's teachings on the subjects and have offered his very words in this thread as proof.

Exactly. This should be a time of getting right with the base. It SOUNDS like he’s joined the chorus that was attacking Sarah after the election, and saying that the problem was that the pubes didn’t run far ENOUGH to the left. People like Chris Shays, the FORMER congressman.

So be it. I’m to the point of just letting these people have at it. Like Puff Daschle’s tax problems. We can’t stop them, so let him in and hang it like a chicken leg around their neck in the next election. Except the STUPID party won’t do that. In fact, they probably won’t even find anyone willing to run AGAINST O Bama. Dictator for life, what we got.

Nice try to hide behind your admission in post 252.

But you’re too late.

Try going back to your post # 153 in which you somehow “forgot” that Palin had her hands tied by the Constitution.

Your words......... her very first veto as governor was of a bill which would have prevented same-sex couples from receiving benefits.

Based on your other anti-conservative comments, you can easily see why I recognized this as an attack on Palin. You claim you love Palin. Whatever. I won’t argue with you any more over that.

Lets move back to the real issue.

You are on record as being in favor of the Republicans adopting the thoughts and practices that liberal democrats have espoused for years.

With that in mind, answer me this: How did Repubs acting and thinking like Democrats work out for us last November, hmmmm??

Are you sorry your boy McCain lost? Do you think Republicans moving more and more to the left will solve our problems?

I was all set to condemn those remarks. But I just listened to the whole video.

In the video, Steele clarifies further that the GOP would NOT change its position on those two issues. He says he would reach out to those voters on “other issues” where we could agree - like economics.

So, let’s not jump the gun yet and assume the party is still headed in the wrong direction.

It seems that this thread also missed Steele's response to illegal immigration.
No change from McCain and Bush policies.
(View the whole interview)

Dear GOP,

No thanks to "reaching out" to pro-abortion and gay voters since I know that would mean tolerance and acceptance of their views, which is not acceptable to me.

No thanks to the same old policies on illegal immigration.  What... build a wall, then give a pass to the ones who are already here?

No thanks.  No money from me either.

I’m shocked Donna that we’re on a conservative website and there are 2 people who have no problem with this

The party used to stand for no abortion, fiscal responsibility , strong defence and yes normal traditional marriage.

I am sick to death of hearing how someone know a homo and they are nice or how they know a homo at their church and he is nice , he just wants to live with the person who they love.

Well no one is stopping anyone form living with who ever but the fact is that they want us to accept their perverted sick sexual lifestyle. They have infiltrated schools, Church’s and now I hope not this site

The way to bring in more voters to the party is through RINOs, or near RINOs running in blue states and more liberal districts on platforms that can win there, much as Snowe and Collins do in Maine.

Well, they can try that, but they aren't going to do it with MY money.

We will never free them from enslavement to government if we tell them they can never be “true” conservatives. These slaves see government as their protector against those who would impose their will through force. Reading some of the comments on this thread, I’m not sure I blame them....

If we continue the way some folks here want us to go, there will shortly be three political movements in the United States: the Liberal/Socialist/Big Government Left, the Religious/Prohibitionist/Big Goverment Right, and those of us who want nothing to do with the liberty-crushing orthodoxy that those two movements represent. By default, socialism will emerge victorious. The Founding Fathers envisioned government as a “necessary evil”. Some, however, seem to envision government merely as the mechanism that will allow their prejudices to become the Law of the Land, the Constitution be d***ed.

But he wants to reach out to other voters on “the other issues” like economics.

For me...

Its not about appealing to people. Its not about having the republican party winning elections. its about abandoning a socialist nation.

As humans we have the RIGHT to dissolve the bonds that tie us to others when those bonds become chains and those bonds HAVE become chains!

There is no salvation in the GOP nor is there any in the corrupt system that exists in this nation. Those who believe in limited government (anti-socialist) CANNOT win given the current playing field. Giving in to the demands of socialist is no victory, only utter defeat lies down that path. Its not about “inclusiveness” or populism, or focus groups.. Its about Freedom from a monstrous government that controls our daily lives from cradle to grave!

Screw Obama, the dems and the GOP. They are all appendages of the same creature. The ONLY way we are going to get our freedom back is to TAKE it back!

Well, they can try that, but they aren't going to do it with MY money.

About all that can be said is that a RINO is better than Yankee, liberal Dem, or a California Dem. But that much can be said, and if RINOs can win in liberal blue states, then we'd be better off at least in caucusing to determine majorities, and on some issues.

Of course, there is one RINO from a desert state the party needs to replace in 2010, in the worst way.

Christians reach out to gays and witches all the time. We tell them the truth about the Lord and hope they will repent.

fed up of hearing from liberal republicans, it is the reason why so many RINO’s get into power and then ignore the conservative base.

The majority of people in this country are opposed to homo’s and their agenda and yet liberal republicans think we should reach out to what a small section of this country who hate the party anyway
