Republican Momentum [Byron York]
National Review ^ | Feb. 4, 2009 | Byron York

On Capitol Hill, you can feel the Republicans' growing sense of confidence. They've scored a lot of hits on the stimulus bill, and now they're aiming higher. "We'll try to make the bill better," Sen. Jim DeMint said a few moments ago, "but this bill is so bad... you can't fix it by tweaking around the edges... The best thing to happen would be for President Obama to lead, to call a time out." Several Republicans now want to throw the whole bill out and replace it with a package that is nearly all tax cuts - "twice the jobs at half the price."

"Conservatives Are Beating Us 100 To 1!" was the headline of a mailing from the liberal activist group Campaign for America's Future. "We've gotten word from our progressive friends on Capitol Hill that for every one hundred phone calls to Congress from conservatives trying to obstruct change, there is only one phone call from a citizen demanding passage of President Obama's economic recovery bill," the mailing says.

Keep calling your Congressmen and Senators!

IT's amazing what Republicans can accomplish by being united against Obama's socialist anti-American agenda, AND by combining the opposition with offering positive alternatives. I hope Republicans are learning what works and will keep doing it.

I've always been pi$$ed off with everyone grabbing loot from the US taxpayer in the form of EARMARKS attached to various spending bills.

However this so-called Obama Economic Stimulus Bill is nothing short of outright robbing the entire bank vault in the name of 'preventing a catastrophe' while creating a bigger mess which will take at least a generation to pay off!!

NO. NO. NO.

Stalling this bill and adding plenty of amendments, etc, will just make Republicans a target when it all comes crashing down.

The big joke is that the Dems keep saying that the “stimulus bill” needs to be passed immediately and yet they can wait as necessary.

Don’t mend it, KILL IT!

We don’t need this or any ‘stimulus’ package. Let the chips fall where they may.

No stimulus bill is going to make any positive difference whatsoever to the economy.

Yes, KILL IT. And the best way to do that is to keep the phones ringing off the hook in DC.

In regards to which -- could someone PLEASE post a link to Congressional office official phone numbers. I used to have a link on my old computer, and used it often, to send emails or phone directly.

If anyone knows how to access the Congress-critters nationwide, PLEASE post the link. It would help immensely, and I would encourage every FReeper to call, and call as often as they can reasonably afford to. I will gladly blow all my 'anytime minutes' to have an impact.

Thanks, in advance. -- ARFAR

If you lose it again, you can look it up at

http://www.senate.gov, “contact” page

http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/general/one_item_and_teasers/contacting.htm

By Telephone

Alternatively, you may phone the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate office you request.

I have just sent two emails, to my two Democratic Senators. Enough complaints and they MUST listen. I just clicked on the second link in post number 8, and in a few more clicks, there was a list of all the US Senators phone and email numbers.

I encourage everyone who reads this to do it asap. It's easy, it's FUN, and it's FREE :<}

LOL! Pass the bailout of the effete however you like.

All: Don't buy anything except for what you need to survive. They can pass the spending bill, but we don't have to give them the revenues to make more anti-American international deals and fund the programs afterward. They are vain and reprobate, so it's the only way.

The problem is that Democrats can’t stomach this “stimulus” any more than can anyone else in large measure. This is a Pelosi/hard left grab bag passed-off as an economical boost that few apart from the Pelosi/hard left can gut out.

If Harry Reid and Barry had rock-solid control of Senate Dems then they could ram this through. The fact that they can’t tells us volumes. And, now with Blue Dog Dems revolting against SanFranNan, the House is looking better and better.

Yes, the Dems have Congressional control........but Barry, Harry, and Nan do not have control of them.

A lot of people are missing another aspect of this disaster.

Both the House and Senate used to hold hearings with respect to the pros and cons of legislation. Massive spending bills like this being rammed through complete subvert the entire process.

There is no time allowed to debate the individual merits of all the components of the pork thrown into something this monstrous.

It's a destruction of the entire process in a blatant and furious power grab under cover of darkness and secrecy.

Aye! That they are!

US Economic Stimulus Bill Nears Final Vote (It's still $900 billion! GOP time to filibuster)
voa ^ | 2/5/2009 | voa

Excerpt:
"The final vote is looming after senators unanimously approved an amendment Wednesday to provide a $15,000 tax credit for homebuyers.

The provision, sponsored by Republican Senator Johnny Isakson, would add $19 billion to Mr. Obama's $900 billion plan.

Keep calling your Congressmen and Senators!

Right On!

The Dims desperately want Republicans to sign onto this bill so when it fails they can say Republicans voted for it, too. ALL Senators need to hear from us now, as in today. Let them know we will hold them all responsible if this boondoggle passes! Public support for this nonsense has been falling like a lead lined rock over the past week and don't think for a minute that Senators don't know it. Now it the time to move in for the kill, ala the amnesty bill.

Call your Senators today!

Melt the phone lines!

I totally agree. The media can only cover for so long and then the reality of what O and Co. wanted to do, ram a pork-laden bill with almost ZERO stimulus effect as an economy saver vs a constituency payoff, will become clear and many of the “Hopers” will lose the faith.
