Just got off the phone with an influential Republican senator. I asked how things stood with the stimulus, and he answered instantly, "They've cut a deal with three of our guys. They're delaying us from offering amendments. I suspect that as soon as they've got it written, they will offer it as an amendment, vote on it, and that will be it." He didn't have details on what the deal might be, but most Republicans seem to suspect it will involve relatively small cuts — and very little change in the price tag of the bill from the House version — that will be touted as a major bipartisan compromise. My senator suspects — hopes? — that no more than four Republicans will vote for the bill.

I’ve been trying to reach Specter’s office since 0800 and all I’ve gotten was a busy signal.
Was able to speak with a staffer at Casey’s office. Not much of a conversation, simply told him Casey should vote “no”, or else get used to being called, “the former senator Casey”.
Kick them out of the party.
No... seriously...
At least that would be the most effective strategy to maintaining a “zero republican” policy on this abomination. It would also HIGHLIGHT the level of republican opposition to this disaster.
Disclaimer: I honestly don’t care what the republicans do. I no longer consider myself one, nor do I support the liberal members of that party. My above comment is simply what I would do in that situation.

Publish names and phone numbers and vote them out of office at the first opportunity. I also urge each of us to call them to tell them what we think of their duplicity.
But, occasionally, McQueeg goes nuts and does something out of character, like suspending a presidential campaign to vote for Porkulus the First.

He wouldn’t dare after his performance on TV yesterday. It’s still possible he could go “for” it and then come out to say that the bill had been changed therefore, he felt compelled blah blah blah.......
In the scheme of the actual bill, no. This should be used as a time to cull any “Republican” of monetary support for election or re-election in the future though. I want Steele to cut them off!!

Doesn’t this still have to go to the Conference Committee to join the two bills together with more “ironing” out?
Tell him to PUBLICLY and LOUDLY disassociate the republican party from those members who choose to aid the democrats.
That will throw a can of kerosene on the fire and attract even more attention to the disgusting tumor that is this “stimulus” bill.
