Nestlé has inaugurated the world's largest bouillon factory in the Chinese city of Shanghai.
Snippets: Like Christopher, John Layous of the Garlic Co. in Bakersfield, Calif., buys Chinese imports to keep costs low. He supplies Costco, Sam's Club and food-service companies. Layous rails against what he sees as China's unfair competitive advantage, saying his 185-person company, in business since 1980, pays decent wages and provides health and other benefits, unlike Chinese growers. "Another big addition to our costs is the expense we go through to make a safe product," he says, adding that U.S. companies are government-regulated to ensure food is safe.
Fresh garlic isn't the only form of the vegetable causing concern. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service says dehydrated Chinese garlic imports increased 384 percent in the past 10 years. Layous and others cite a 2002 report by the now-defunct Americans for Wholesome Food, a coalition of businesses and organizations dedicated to educating consumers, on domestic and imported garlic powder. The AWF's report, based on independent lab tests, found "high levels of lead, arsenic and added sulfites in two supermarket-brand imported garlic powders from store shelves."
Snippet: Despite this, Chinese garlic does not meet with food safety protocols (at least those in Australia). According to Henry Bell of the Australian Garlic Industry Association, garlic from China is doused in chemicals to stop sprouting, to whiten garlic, and to kill insects and plant matter. He also reports that garlic is grown in untreated sewage
Expose in the New York Times Magazine (Nov. 2, 2008) revealed that there are no major generic aspirin manufacturers in Europe or the U.S. Most aspirin is now made in China.
26% of the Onions Worldwide are grown in China. USA, China, India and Russia are the main growers internationally.

A South Carolina man accused of threatening to kill President George W. Bush has pleaded guilty to plotting to use biological weapons to attack other government officials and destroy the Navy brig near Charleston.
Snippets: "Despite inclement weather during the operation, 4,442 trucks passed through the I-81 Scales," Lt. McKenzie said.
A total of 272 truck drivers were contacted and 95 truck inspections were conducted.
Seven trucks were placed out of service for equipment defects, and 18 truck drivers were placed out of service for violations of hours of service regulations, McKenzie said.
A total of 62 citations and 14 assessments for penalties totaling $9,022 were issued by troopers," McKenzie said.
In addition, 41 K-9 walk arounds (of trucks by drug and bomb-detecting dogs) were performed and 109 radiological sweeps were conducted.
McKenzie said the high visibility of the event at the I-81 Scales "was designed to send a defining message to potential terrorists, and drivers of any unsafe truck planning to operate on Tennessee highways."
Thanks MamaD for the ping - seems as though they are looking for radiological type stuff doesn’t it?
It’s just a matter of time before they are able to carry out one of their plans I’m sure the NY/Colorado bunch were just a drop in the bucket - but at least they caught them!
Wow! Thanks, MamaD. I buy JuicyJuice for the grandchildren from time to time. No More!
Is nothing sacred? LOL!
Elizabeth L. Cheney
"Europe is in the process of becoming Arabia. Churches are emptying out and mosques are filling up. Islam has tried to conquer Europe before ... And it is trying to do it again, not through warfare but mass immigration," said Wilders, a slim man with distinguishable Scandanavian locks.
It happened Sunday, but this is the first I've heard of it. No arrests, just the raid. But, if this raid was related to immigration or food processing, what was the FBI doing there?
I'll also note, that a separate report says that there are only 6 employees at the plant.
That's right, 100 federal agents raiding a company that only has six employees. If this wasn't terror related, then what other plausible explanation is there for it?
A civic liberties group is fighting for full access to the FBI's guidelines on the surveillance of religious communities, arguing that the Justice Departments recent decision to release partially redacted versions of the guidelines left out key passages pertaining to spying in local mosques.
Faced with a pair of lawsuits by Muslim Advocates and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the FBI last month made partially redacted versions of their Domestic Investigations and Operations Guidelines available for public review.
FBI officials describe the guidelines release as a move to greater transparency. But the move wasn't enough for Muslim Advocates, which responded by filing an amended lawsuit arguing that the FBI withheld entire sections dedicated to the infiltration of the Muslim community and religious organizations.
Just hit Drudge. Reuters has a blurb:
Thanks for all the articles - trying to get caught up.
We’re all still here watching and waiting.
Watching and waiting here, too. Has anyone heard any ‘chatter’ about this Sunday, the 25th? My rather conspiracy-minded eldest son thinks something is going to happen then. He follows the Steve Qyayle (sp?) and Alex Jones websites, so what can I say? (My other children are sane.....LOL)
On another subject: A friend of mine (a local dentist) lost his eight year old son to the H1N1 virus on Sunday. Little Jack had a developmental disease and had a lot of other health issues. It is so very sad. I went to get my seasonal flu shot today at my family Dr’s office. They had just run out of the vaccine. No problem, I thought. So I went to my pharmacy at Safeway. They are also out of the vaccine. I called around to all the clinics and there is NONE left!.....and no one knows when they will get a new supply. What really ticks me off is that my Dr. advised me to wait until the end of Oct. to get the shot, because they are only good for about three months.....and the seasonal flu usually peaks in January!
No, I haven’t heard anything about the 25th and let’s hope Quayle is wrong.
So sorry to hear about Little Jack. I can’t imagine the heartache.
Were you looking to get the H1N1 flu shot or just the regular flu shot?
Man wields plastic knife in bid to hijack Egyptian plane
Egyptian security agents on Wednesday arrested a Sudanese man who tried to hijack an airliner armed with a plastic knife, security sources said.....
Just the regular, seasonal flu shot. I don’t think the final verdict is in yet on the ‘swine flue vaccine’, snd I won’t take it. I spent 10 days in the hospital with viral pneumonia in 1976 (swine flu complication). From what I’ve read, I think I may have some immunity to it.
I’ve decided to not get either flu shot this year. I never knew they put those adjuvants in them and with them being short they will water down the actual vaccine with more preservatives.
I was so happy when I saw Liz Cheney was part of that site - I couldn’t wait to go there and share it. :)
My biggest concern is that I have a compromised immune system, (Sarcoidosis) which affects my lungs. I seem to catch everything that goes around. On the upside, every one else got the vaccine, so it should not be ‘going around’. I’ll just keep pumping the vitamin D3 and vitamin C plus zinc. Also my Dr. keeps me supplied with antibiotics, just in case.
The squalene they put in the vaccines worries me.
A Norwich Technical High School student who police said threatened to harm others at the school was charged with bomb-making and terrorism today, police said.
The 15-year-old, who wasn't named because of his age, was charged with manufacturing a bomb, act of terrorism, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, threatening and second-degree reckless endangerment at 8:45 a.m. as he was discharged from a medical facility where he had been admitted Oct. 2, police said.
A third Toledo-area man, Wassim Mazloum, was sentenced to eight years, four months in prison Wednesday night in U.S. District Court for his involvement in a plot to kill U.S. troops overseas.
Mazloum also was ordered deported after serving his prison term.
The road trip ended up like many in Las Vegas: flashing red and blue lights in the rear-view mirror.
The real end, however, came in a Minnesota Federal Court. Two weeks ago, the FBI arrested Abdow Munye Abdow for two counts of making false statements to a federal official. The FBI believes Abdow lied about his trip to Las Vegas, and a passenger he was with who was on the terrorism watch list.
The Nevada Highway Patrol pulled over Abdow and four other people on October 6, 2009 for speeding. Trooper Alan Davidson, a spokesperson for NHP, said the officer on the scene began asking questions.
FP: CAIR is not hiding their displeasure with you. Do you feel physically threatened?
Gaubatz: I did not hide from terrorists in Iraq and there will never be a day I will hide in America from terrorists or their supporters. The day when Americans begin hiding from terrorists is the day we have lost our country and our children's future.
Snippet: A key difference now, the judges say, is the light already shone on U.S. intelligence tactics by the Obama Administration. "We cannot accept the contention of the Foreign Secretary that the position of the Obama Administration is the same as that of the Bush Administration," the ruling says, concluding that there will likely be few or no consequences if Britain hands U.S. secrets to the press. The ruling goes on to note the Department of Justice's partial release in April of interrogation memos meant "it is now impossible to contend that details of the interrogation methods are themselves matters of intelligence."
Thank you for the ping MamaDearest.
Good link set.
Prayers would be appreciated.
IT REALY REALLY !REALLY! HURTS to swallow even saliva.
Even with the pain meds.
Vet Doc gave me Penicillin . . . hopefully, it will do the trick. Sigh.
How odd, I too had swine flu in 1976. Got my flu shot about 3 weeks ago, but won’t be getting the h1n1 flu shot. I agree with you that the final verdict in not yet in on this one.
Thank God, that so far, the alphabets are catching these guys.
Prayers for your speedy recovery, Quix.
Strep throat perhaps?
Doc agrees it sure looks like it. And feels like it to me.
Treating it as it is without culture. would take too long.
THX FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND CARING.
I heard this as it happened via the scanner, and knew this was a runaway train heading right into the main Amtrak (Union Station) terminal. Think Gene Wilder/Richard Pryor "Silver Streak". They intentionally knocked it off the rails about 1/2 mile from the main yard, but even that attempt was a near miss.
Hardly even mentioned in the TV news reports that an 8 car chain of locomotives was heading towards the Loop right in the middle of the morning.
Hope you’re feeling better today! :-)
Scary when you put it that way!
Terror suspect arrested at O’Hare: police
A man wanted on a Minnesota warrant for alleged terror threats was arrested at OHare International Airport on Thursday night, police said.
Ismail Alqawasmi, 36, of Richfield, Minn., remains in Chicago Police custody after being arrested at 8 p.m. at OHare, according to police.
Alqawasmi flew into the United States from Amman, Jordan, on Royal Jordanian airlines and a customs official conducting a name check found an active warrant from Wright County in Buffalo, Minn, for terroristic threats, according to police.....
STREP THROAT SOMEWHAT EASIER TO SWALLOW W PAIN MEDS. Penicilin seems to be working.
CAN’T MAKE A SOUND TO SPEAK.
Chest some worse.
your concern & Prayers greatly appreciated.
After Boston jihad terror arrest, Massachusetts Muslims pledge new cooperation with feds, new anti-terror programs in mosques — no, wait...
Try “Airborne” - take as directed. I swear by the stuff. Easy to get at any pharmacy:
HAVE IT . . . SUPPOSEDLY RESEARCH NOT SO GREAT ON IT.
Brew a cup of strong black tea.
Add one teaspoon of milk.
Stir in one Tablespoon of high quality honey.
Take tiny sips - almost any honey will sooth a sore throat, but a high quality honey from a glass jar may even be a bit medicinal, too.
I find it deeply disconcerting how many “American” products are manufactured in China.
Nowadays, I am trying to go “back to the basics,” and instead of brand cleaners, I only use amonia and water until the bottle is done, and then I clean with only bleach and water.
I don’t trust brand name products anymore.
I called up the Campbell’s hotline last month, because several cans of Swanson’s Chicken & Dumplings which I’d purchased had NO dumplings in them.
I explained that I was rotating my emergency supplies and had discovered these bad cans.
Can you imagine this — the customer service rep who heard me state this started LAUGHING.
I was very polite; however, I did not find it a laughing matter that one of the types of canned foods I had in my emergency storage was WORTHLESS for an actual emergency.
I thought I bought a complete meal containing chicken meat, white sauce and wheat dumplings — instead I had a watery white mess with bits of meat here & there.
I won’t spend all the coupons they sent me — I could not believe that anybody, much less the people who manufactured the inferior food product would find it FUNNY that I had three cans of it in my storage pantry.
I was not amused, and I have no idea why the person employed by Campbells found it to be hysterically funny.
I am disgusted with brand names.
The LAST time I bought Dawn, they changed the cap — so that any time the bottle is picked up, the liquid detergent sprays out — it covered the groceries in the bag that day.
I’ll never buy anything by Proctor and Gamble again.
I’m furious with all these so-called “American” corporations - and am trying to only buy generic store brands, even though I realize that much or most of their items also originate in China.
I’ve read that much of the organic produce found in supermarkets nowadays is imported from China, and I seriously wonder HOW it can be certified organic??
Seriously, I suspect that many Americans are as irritated as I am, and we are ‘demonstrating’ with our pocketbooks.
This tea should be VERY sweet - don’t be stingy with the honey.
Normally we avoid honey as it contains so much fructose; however, we still use it for sore throats.
And now that it’s recently been reported that LOTS of honey producing bees are being fed High Fructose Corn Syrup, and that some people believe that the HFCS *might* be behind the global Bee Colony Collapse Disease, I’m glad that we’ve already been restricting our use of it.
However, it sure seems “curative” in terms of painful sore throats, really soothing like absolutely nothing else.
I hope you feel better soon.
honey seems to be helpful in the right proportions.
Still figuring that out.
I just remembered another olde time suggestion for achy sore throat, and that is ginger tea.
I keep a tiny jar of minced ginger with my flu-preps, but one can use the powdered ginger from the spice aisle in the grocery store, too.
I think it kind of “operates” as a mild anaesthetic - which incidentally, the clove oil found in full strength Listerine does the same thing.
I really empathize with your plight, and that’s why I always have on hand, in with the flu-preps, small glass jars of honey and a huge variety of flavors and brands of cough drops.
A terrible sore throat of the variety you are sufferring from is simply vile.
The watered down honey slightly sipped when I got up from my nap about sent me into spasms.
Doesn’t take much to irritate at this point.
Good suggestions, imho.
Politically correct counter-terrorism - - THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Do counter-terrorism measures targeting bombers who dress as women offend the rights of transexuals? This is one of the pressing questions addressed in a new United Nations report on "Protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism."
The 23-page document is the ultimate politically correct guide to combating terrorism. It is based on the work of U.N. special rapporteur Martin Scheinin, who notes that "immigration controls that focus attention on male bombers who may be dressing as females to avoid scrutiny make transgender persons susceptible to increased harassment and suspicion." The impact on transvestites (cross-dressers) and "intersex" individuals (those in the midst of a sex change) is even more dramatic.
Security always involves trade-offs. Everyone is subject to the inconveniences necessary to keep our society safe, and the impact varies by personal.....
Graham Allison -- October 10, 2009
Before 9/11, most Americans found the idea that international terrorists could mount an attack on their homeland and kill thousands of innocent citizens not just unlikely but inconceivable. After more than eight years without a second attack on U.S. soil, some skeptics suggest that 9/11 was a 100-year flood.
The view that terrorists are preparing even more deadly assaults seems far-fetched.
Yet President Barack Obama rightly identifies nuclear terrorism as "a threat that rises above all others in urgency." As he recently said, "There is no graver danger to global security than the threat of nuclear terrorism and no more immediate task for the international community than to address that threat."The U.N. Security Council recently adopted a resolution that in part calls for reducing the risk of nuclear terrorism "with the aim of securing all vulnerable nuclear......
Snips: Ashley Hartman, 23, arrived in the late afternoon from Tampa and was planning to transfer in Orlando to a bus bound for her home in Delaware. She told a security agent about the stun gun in her book bag that she carries for protection, and officials at the terminal helped her ship it home; stun guns are prohibited on buses, a TSA spokeswoman said.
Five people were arrested on illegal-immigration charges, and one person was picked up on a local warrant. Glass bottles, knives, a bullet and the stun gun were found.
Massive FBI Raid on Islamic Slaughterhouse Mystifies Tiny Illinois Town
Thursday, October 22, 2009 By Joseph Abrams
" At 8 a.m. Sunday the population of Kinsman, Ill., stood at 109. An hour later it nearly doubled, as upwards of 100 federal agents and police swooped in on the tiny, rural community. And no one seems to know why.
The law enforcement officers, including FBI agents, immigration officials and state police, surrounded an Islamic meat plant in Kinsman, cordoning off the area and briefly detaining the plant's handful of employees.
The FBI isn't saying much, and the county sheriff is mum too, leaving Kinsman's residents mystified. The bust, in a town that has no local police force, involved dozens of vehicles, a pair of snipers and a helicopter flying overhead, witnesses said but it ended without even a single arrest..."
Too close for my comfort.
Sorry, just saw that was already posted by Mama Dearest up in post #1357.
Just like the attacks of 9/11/01, we probably won't see the attacks coming and most will be caught off guard. Be ready for a lot of very panicked people.
When in malls or large buildings, we aware of the TWO closest exits, in case one is blocked.
Keep gas tanks at least half full. Keeping a couple of jerry cans full of gas is also a good idea, I keep 4 myself.
If you have to evacuate, it should take no more than 15 minutes. This takes planning and practice. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, STAY PUT.
Thanks folks for finding and posting is information.
Stay Alert. Stay Safe.
Local media coverage of Tarek Mehanna, the Sudbury, MA "wannabe" terrorist, was extensive but it rather limited in scope.
The media stories focused on how shocked, shocked people were that an educated, affluent young Muslim was accused of planning to commit terrorist activities. And especially Tarek Mehanna, that gentle soul, his neighors and classmates couldn't believe that he wanted to wage jihad and kill kufirs (non-believers).
The other angle frequently reported was that Tarek was an incompetent wannabe terrorist...People wouldn't be so smug though, if Tarek and co-conspirator Ahmed Abousamra had pulled off a Mumbai-type attack.
There is much more that the media could be looking at in this case. I'll start with reviewing......
Long time, no see.
Thanks for your advice. Since you felt that it was important, at this time to remind everybody:
"When in malls or large buildings, we aware of the TWO closest exits, in case one is blocked..."
I decided that I'd like to add a little something here, something that I've read was suggested by a terrorism expert who used to work for the Mossad.
He encouraged all office workers -- and I also advise anyone out shopping ANYWHERE, be it the mall or the grocery store -- to have a bottle of water & a clean face cloth towel with them at all times.
IF there is any attack, immediately open up the bottle of water, then saturate your towel, and cover your nose with it -- i.e., breathe in through the wet towel as you escape from the premises.
The expert explained that MANY people victim to terror attacks succumb to smoke inhalation.
Simply wrap a clean face cloth terry towel around a new plastic bottle of water and secure it with a rubber band; put it in your purse, or your knapsack, or your briefcase -- but keep it with you at all times, so that you don't become a statistic.
There are simply too many downright 'peculiar' articles in the press currently, and recently there have been way too many arrests and ongoing investigations -- obviously, something pretty serious is considered by LEOs to be imminent, don't you agree?
Yes, I do agree that something bad is in the works.
I stay at threat level orange at all times and stay as close to home as life will allow. No unnecessary long trips.
Here's a new twist to all this madness: the prospect of a second civil war. Lots of folks discussing the possibility around here.
