Corey Hughes ‘ thyroid gland was bothering him - again. He needed medical attention, but had no money to get it. Hughes , 33, a computer programmer who lives in Rochester, has no steady job, no health insurance, no doctor.
So, when Dr. Carolyn Mok examined him June 2 at Mercy Outreach Center on Webster Avenue, not only did Hughes get necessary treatment for his thyroid condition, he also took comfort in something else: the service was free.

Was there a tax sale on the property?
On one of the deeds it states the property is not a homestead. Does that mean it is a ‘second home?’

It gets confusing because the lots were part of a larger parcel.
I looked on Google maps out of curiousity (it shows photos of the properties when you put in the address). It seems to be vacant land.
I was just looking at that, and one half seems to have been sold off. And, there’s a third FL property.
Why the 2001 interest in FL, (and possible other), real estate? Rental properties? What did Barney Frank and Fannie Mae call those mortgage opportunities again?

I have NO idea. There are numerous addresses, different name spellings, ages, missing DOB’s, in various states.
Not Medicare. Medicaid. A welfare benefit.
She’s definitely a grifter - and her son is, too.
I live in St Augustine, Florida, and we have folks like this pass through every year, starting in October or so. They actually are welfare snowbirds, getting short term benefits here while living on regular government income from their home states or the Feds.

THERE IS NO RECORD OF A FORECLOSURE OR EVICTION IN LEE COUNTY OR ROCHESTER.
HER SON PAID THE PROPERTY TAXES ON THE ONLY PROPERTY THEY OWN IN LEE COUNTY IN JANUARY. THE TAXES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PAID ON TIME

Corey Hughes, who left his job in New York in early 2008, said he had been trying to take care of his mom. Both have searched for jobs and have come up empty, as have so many other Southwest Floridians. Henrietta said the family came here due to the high cost of living in New York.

I assumed Clark was her maiden name because she is listed on the Monroe County, NY deed as Henrietta Clark Hughes I haven’t been able to associate a Henrietta Clark
But even on people search there is an 86/61 difference.

It is so dishonest. It leaves the reader with the impression that they arrived in Ft Myers in 2008 for the first time. Lehigh Acres is not even mentioned.

Sorry. The congressman’s wife just offered it to her - on the spot. No checks, etc. The talk show host mentioned that to her that he thought that was ill advised. She replied “As a lawyer, I know that I run some risk of doing this. But, in today’s climate you can get sued by someone trying to give them first aid or whatever.”
And yes, Ms. Hughes told the congressman’s wife that she went to the library and saw photos of the house (it is for sale) and would like to see it together tomorrow. (What - the color may not be quite suitable for her and her son!!??)
Hopefully the home owner will have the presence of mind to have some contracts ready - even if it is a gift of a free house. Good for Ms. Hughes too. (You can stay until I sell it, and I will continue to pay the taxes, electric, etc. You pay for the phone. And no - you can’t have cable TV - or then you can pay for the electric. You can’t trash my house, I can visit whenever, etc.)
It will be interesting to see what happens. I would like to believe in the goodness of human nature that someone that needs help gets help due to the kindness of a stranger. We’ll see if Henrietta takes her up on this offer - or warily walks off into the shadows. (Oh man - all I wanted was my 5 minutes of fame - not some house!)

Henrietta Hughes said she is a former secretary, but on disability after surviving three bouts with cancer.
Their Lehigh Acres home soon went into foreclosure, and they have been forced to live in their silver pickup with two seats, parking it wherever they can. She said they sleep in the truck bed with its cover protecting them from the cold, wind and rain.
Corey Hughes, 37, said they spend days going to job centers, trying to find work. The pair had tried to apply for a state-subsidized apartment, but discovered there was a two-year waiting list.
His mother had been thinking about writing Obama a letter detailing their troubles, but when they heard he was coming to town, they decided to go, Corey Hughes said.
While on a walk around 9 p.m. Sunday, the two found a line of people waiting to get tickets and they jumped in. Twelve hours later, they had tickets to see the president.
Corey Hughes said he wasn’t surprised about his mother’s interaction with the president.
“She wanted to talk to him,” he said. Later, he noted, “If anybody could really help, I guess he could.”

From whom and for what??? The multiple FL properties? One or some was owned, if I read correctly, while both of them cried hardship in 2004 ... in NY.
