RAW DATA: Stimulus Bill -- Who Gets What?
An examination of how the economic stimulus plan will affect Americans
Saturday, February 14, 2009
The recovery package has tax breaks for families that send a child to college, purchase a new car, buy a first home or make the ones they own more energy efficient.
Millions of workers can expect to see about $13 extra in their weekly paychecks, starting around June, from a new $400 tax credit to be doled out through the rest of the year. Couples would get up to $800. In 2010, the credit would be about $7.70 a week, if it is spread over the entire year.
The $1,000 child tax credit would be extended to more low-income families that don't make enough money to pay income taxes, and poor families with three or more children will get an expanded Earned Income Tax Credit.
Middle-income and wealthy taxpayers will be spared from paying the Alternative Minimum Tax, which was designed 40 years ago to make sure wealthy taxpayers pay at least some tax, but was never indexed for inflation. Congress fixes it each year, usually in the fall.
First-time homebuyers who purchase their homes before Dec. 1 would be eligible for an $8,000 tax credit, and people who buy new cars before the end of the year can write off the sales taxes.
Homeowners who add energy-efficient windows, furnaces and air conditioners can get a tax credit to cover 30 percent of the costs, up to a total of $1,500. College students -- or their parents -- are eligible for tax credits of up to $2,500 to help pay tuition and related expenses in 2009 and 2010.
Those receiving unemployment benefits this year wouldn't pay any federal income taxes on the first $2,400 they receive.

Seem like some middle class tax cuts.
Nothing for me or my family for sure, and we are “middle class”. I never look to the government for handouts, but when I see them wasting money to supposedly “stimulate” the econemy, one would think a family like mine would have gotten something out of this, rather than a few dollars per week.
I know of a few losers that all live in the same house that are well and able to work, but they are “disabled”, and get food stamps. They get much more from this than we do...
I won’t see a dime of tax relief since I make just over $100K a year (which doesn’t go that far in California.) I didn’t see a time of the last “rebate” either. In fact soon my taxes will go up once the Bush tax cuts expire.
Too prosperous to get any relief, and not wealthy enough NOT to need it. Squeezed.
“Millions of workers can expect to see about $13 extra in their weekly paychecks, starting around June.”
That covers my beer. Oh wait, I make more than $100K, I’m one of those selfish wealthy people who doesn’t deserve a tax cut. Oh well, no beer for me.
7 bucks a week for me 24,000 in debt for my grandkids.
Won’t help us!
We purchased a new car in October.
We put new windows in our two family last year.
We bought our first house years ago.
The only thing that could help us:
My son is 22 and attending school. We pay tuition and rent.
We just keep on paying and everyone else wants to take, take, take.
You too? No worries. We're too busy lighting up our fat-cat cigars with hundred dollar bills to notice.
"The credit is phased out for individuals making more than $75,000 and couples making more than $150,000. Millions of low-income workers who don't make enough money to pay income taxes would get checks from the government when they file their 2009 tax returns."
Correction, I'm phased out but my grandkids still get stuck with the bill.
Our cigars are going up too, $13 would buy me one a week now, if I got it.
“Millions of workers can expect to see about $13 extra in their weekly paychecks, starting around June”
Gee, that will help the economy....Just think I have from now all the way until June to decide how to spend my extra money. That is if nothing else goes up by then like food, rent, gas etc. Oh Boy, me and 95% of all tax payers can thank Obie for the BIG tax break he promised. What a liar! Oh Democrats you have been punked!
"The law allocates $2 billion for the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, a program that has funded drug task forces and things such as prisoner rehabilitation and after-school programs.
"An additional $1 billion is set aside to hire local police under the Community Oriented Policing Services program. The program, known as COPS grants, paid the salaries of many local police officers and was a "modest contributor" to the decline in crime in the 1990s, according to a 2005 government oversight report.
"Both programs had all been eliminated during the Bush administration."
ACORN youth activities and ACORNCOPS.
"More than 37 million Americans live in poverty, and the vast majority of them are in line for extra help under the giant stimulus package. Millions more could be kept from slipping into poverty by the economic lifeline.
"People who get food stamps 30 million and growing will get more. People drawing unemployment checks nearly 5 million and growing would get an extra $25, and keep those checks coming longer. People who get Supplemental Security Income 7 million poor Americans who are elderly, blind or disabled would get one-time extra payments of $250."
It won't even help the very poor, not really. It's all symbolic.
That's an extra $13 that can go here.
“You get nothing! You lose! Good day, sir!”
Right there with ya, everything you’ve said.
Recall ‘em all.
“That’s an extra $13 that can go here. “

>>Seem like some middle class tax cuts.<<
Sort of. Instead of any cuts in tax rates that would have ongoing stimulative effects than could be planned on, they opted for transfer payments regardless of whether people pay taxes.
It would have been much better to actually cut tax rates and do the direct stimulus to the poor in the form of food stamps which have a high multiplier effect and greatly help farmers, also.
I was wondering about that myself.
Couldn't a petition drive be started in EVERY State, to remove the Congress members (House and Senate), who voted FOR the handouts, thus ignoring the people they were elected to represent?
Of course, it would be one thing to petition and succeed in getting it on a ballot, but with the ACORN abundance of funding, fraud, and the "Obama gonna pay my rent, gonna buy my gas", etc. who would vote to keep your taxes flowing into their refrigerators, it might be hard to get a majority to vote them out, I guess?
I think they are discovering that they are now no longer middle class. At 75K a year they are now the filthy rich.
Funny how the numbers keep changing on who is rich.
Exactly. From an economic standpoint the bill is retarded, something even liberals would have a hard time disputing.
JOBBED! JOBBED! JOBBED!
Are you by any chance a wrestling fan?
I checked Thomas.gov and found the link here:
If you click on the link under Conf. Report, Div. A and Div B it will download. Then if you use your search binoculars, you can search whatever words you wish. At least I think that’s how I managed to search.
For damn sake, what in the hell will this amount of money do. Where in the hell is Obama and his corrupt nitwits living. Mars? Damn where have these dumb dirt-bags been living?
Wrestling? Just curious, what’s the connection? — other than getting Pelosi in a headlock and making her eat the 1000 ‘stimulus’ bill page by page? ;-)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Recall em all.”
I was wondering about that myself.

Yes, that can be done.
Each Rep and Sen falls under the rules of their own state.
We don’t need to get them all, just 40 of them or so !!!
In Louisiana, there is one easy (but still very hard) target (Melancon) and one more very difficult target (Landrieu)
We need to get only 1/3 of all registered voters in Melancon’s district to sign a recall petition!
WHO ARE THE TARGETS IN YOUR STATE?
WHAT ARE THE RECALL RULES FOR YOUR STATE?
In professional wrestling slang, the term job describes a losing performance in a wrestling match. It is derived from the euphemism "doing one's job", which was employed to protect kayfabe. As professional wrestling is scripted, inevitably a wrestler will be required to lose to an opponent.
The term can be used a number of ways. When a wrestler is booked, or scripted, to lose a match it is described as "a job." The act itself is described with the verb jobbing. To lose a match fairly is to job cleanly. A loss through outside interference, cheating, or a reversed decision is called a screwjob. Wrestlers who routinely lose matches are known as jobbers.
America loses. Hope we're not lost.
The lefties get the goldmine the rest of us get the shaft.
WHAT ARE THE RECALL RULES FOR YOUR STATE?"
First, ANY and ALL who voted FOR the Porkulus suppository that was just rammed up the taxpayers' rear-ends SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE FOR MALFEASANCE, IMHO. This should be done in all "57 States".
As far as the "official rules" for Recall/Removal from Office; I'm in Ohio, and I cannot find the exact Constitutional requirements for conducting/accomplishing such removal.
As far as U.S. Senators, of course, we have sleazy Sherrod Brown, and RINO Voinovich right now (he's already announced retirement, so we'll be getting another Democrat Senator in this Blue State).
Ohio is infested with blue collar Union boneheads, who vote (D) no matter what (they do as their Union Bosses tell them), even though the bulk of them were out of work for being overpaid and pricing themselves out of the market. In addition, we have the inner-city "don't have to worry 'bout no mo'gage, don't have to worry 'bout no gas..." crowd (aka, fourth generation welfare/entitlements' crowd) and ACORN makes sure every tree stump, dead body, and cartoon character votes in Ohio.
It's a sickening situation, and with the added burden of taxes coming down on those who work for a living or run a business, this new load will drive the economy to ruins for sure (which is what the goal of the Socialists is).
Interestingly, before the Senate vote, there were ads EVERY HOUR on radio, urging people to call Voinovich to change his vote, and the ads were sponsored by AFSCME and People for Change......the entitilements and government-dependent crowd!
How poor do you have to be to get this credit?
Wait just a darn minute.....where is my free house and the free gas for my car?
Someone else posted it here -it’s at thomas.gov. When I called my Senator yesterday to urge a no vote, they told me you can search by topic with ctrlF. Haven’t tried it myself yet.
Where is my free ammo-? If we’re going to get free stuff, we might as well get something we can use to improve things...
Perhaps these good folks know. They are trying to recall City Council members.
We need to get them looking over their shoulders.
By SHELLEY TERRY - Staff Writer - email@example.com
ASHTABULA The campaign to unseat four City Council members kicked off its petition-signing drive Tuesday with a steady line of people streaming into a downtown building.
For more than three hours, Concerned Citizens for Progress (CCP) guided registered voters as they signed recall petitions in an effort to remove council vice president Betty Kist, Ward 1 Councilman Joseph Rose, Ward 2 Councilman Bernie Roskovics and Ward 3 Councilwoman Ericka Severino.
People were here before we opened the
door, said Alice Cook, a CCP volunteer. It looks like we need more volunteers.
David Bucci, president of 25-member citizens group, smiled when he walked up to the front door and saw that the line extended out the door.
Im very pleased with the turnout, he said.
Ashtabula resident Carilee McCue said, Its something that needs to be done.
Diane Higley of Ashtabula had another motive in mind.
Im here to get rid of Tom Simon and his girlfriend, she said.
Ashtabula resident Liz Lago said council needs to do something, such as bring jobs to the area.
They havent done a thing for the city, she said.
Judy Brown of Ashtabula said she is tired of councils kindergarten ways and constant fighting.
Council members Rodger Altier, Julie Lattimer and James Trisket are not named in the recall movement.
We feel (Trisket and Lattimer) have some good ideas, but they are not being heard, Bucci said.
As for Altier, state law mandates council members must serve one year before they can be recalled, giving them a fair chance to serve the public. Altier was appointed in August following former council president Robert Beacoms resignation.
CEOs, Bankers Used Corporate Credit Cards for Sex, Says New York Madam Wall Street Exposed as Convicted Escort Boss Reveals Client List of (9,800)
By ANNA SCHECTER, RHONDA SCHWARTZ and BRIAN ROSS February 6, 2009
SHARE Wall street lawyers, investment bankers, CEOs and media executives often used corporate credit cards to pay for $2,000 an hour prostitutes, according to the madam who ran one of New York's biggest and most expensive escort services until it was busted last year.
Brian Ross reports on the woman speaking out about the business of pleasure.
More PhotosBut prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's office chose not to pursue any of the corporate titans, says Kristin Davis, who pleaded guilty last year to charges of running a prostitution business that used more than a hundred women.
"They showed no interest," said Davis in an interview for broadcast Friday on the ABC News program 20/20.
"Some of these guys, I was invoicing on corporate credit cards," she said. "I was writing up monthly bills for computer consulting, construction expenses, all of these things, I was invoicing them monthly so they could get it by their accountants," Davis said.
A spokesperson said district attorney Robert Morgenthau had "no comment" on the handling of Davis' case or her allegations.
Davis provided ABC News with a print-out of her computerized client list, the same one she says that was offered to the district attorney.
The document shows Davis kept meticulous notes about her clients, their credit card numbers and mobile phone numbers.

I was absolutely amazed a few days ago. I turned on Fox & Friends for the first time in months and months. Huckabee and Geraldo were discussing the stimulus package.
Huckabee says that $13.00 a week tax cut is not enough. No one is going to go buy a car with $52.00 a month.
Then Geraldo gets on and says that they can't give money to the middle class because they won't spend it. They will just sit on it. But everyone knows that people on food stamps don't save money. If you double their food stamps, they will go out and spend them, and that will stimulate the economy.
I turned it off again.
