Now we know who this one (supposedly) Republican holdout is.

What slays me is that, should this budget NOT pass and (thus) the state government begin to shut down,

it will be REPUBLICANS ONLY whom the MSM blame,

even though the Dems, and the Judases like Schwarzenegger, expressly are rejecting EVEN DEBATE ABOUT further spending cuts — in a budget that has doubled in a decade.

Dave Cox of Fair Oaks and Abel Maldonado of Santa Maria -- have been talking to the governor and Senate Democrats about changes that could make one of them provide the final vote needed for passage.

They're holding out for a friend/relative/contributor one of those $100k a year do nothing commissions that meet once a year

Sure it makes sense to raise taxes on people when the economy is down. Not.

Well, what can we say? The MSM knows where its bread is buttered.

CA should get out their constitution and read about what the actual government obligation for spending needs are.

Then they should compare it to the Federal Constitution to see what our federal government is actually chartered to govern.

Then they should cut all spending that is neither outlined in the state or federal constitution as unnecessary. They would quickly discover that they would be in a windfall budget situation.

Of course 1 million government workers would probably have to be layed off. Funding for many environmental protection endeavors would go away. And who would tell the businesses where they can do business or how much they had to sell goods and services for? What about the children?

Thanks for reminding us that the vast majority of politicians (regardless of party suffix) are whores who simply cater to a different clientele.

"I know it's a difficult budget," Schwarzenegger said. "The legislators are tired. They have spent nights here, but we are still one vote short............... of being able to raise taxes.

There ya go. Close down the entire state legislature... we would be a lot better off. 20,000 workers to be laid off... start with the governor.

I don’t think the guy is a hold-out. I think he is the one that has given an indication he is willing to cave if they make him a hero to his district in some manner.

In some ways, Arnold may be doing the right thing in making them balance the budget now when he could delay it and wait for the actual shortfall to occur.

However, he has been silent as the media paints the Republicans of failing to produce the “one vote needed for passage.”

The Democrats hold the majority. It is up to the majority to craft a bill that can be passed and they put in the exact form of gotcha taxation that was the last-straw for Grey Davis so they can say that Arnold has had to do the same thing that Davis did to run the State.

Republicans in California should say nothing but, “The majority party has failed to bringforth anything that does not rely upon heavy thievry from the people of our state. Opposing such thievry is part of our Republican caucus’ fundamental worth to the citizens of a heavily taxed state we all love.”

The same statement, over and over.

In California, the public sector is AT WAR with the private sector. The other side is on the high ground with massive artillery: a Democrat majority, a RINO governor, union backers, and media support. All we have is a ragtag group of Republicans who refuse to vote for tax increases. Will they be able to hold out, or will a turncoat Republican stab us in the back? Stay tuned.

Good. I've never had a problem accepting blame for doing what's right.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said today that he would not re-open broad negotiations over the state budget -- despite the demand of the new Republican leader in the Senate to remove proposed tax increases -- and told lawmakers to "hold tight" in the effort to win passage of a $41 billion package.

What a disappointment...

I just called Schwartzeneggers office and the lady there said that as of last night there were three votes needed to pass the budget, and that the Governator doesn’t know what he is going to do. She said he doesn’t want to start from scratch on the budget, but doesn’t know what will happen now that there is a new minority leader.

The GOP should take any voters for the budget out of any leadership position including off any committees. Say no! to higher taxes!

He doesn't know what to do? Why not do what he campaigned for during the recall? He's not supposed to be supporting tax or other increases!

As for the Republicans, they need to organize now around Hollister, and establish an anti tax Assembly leader. They have ultra big support in the KFI 640 John & Ken show and their listeners who would promote them and they should have some of these anti tax Republicans go out and promote their new agenda over the airwaves and media.

Call these people and lawmakers, let them know. All the info is on the KFI 640 John & Ken website including a tax calculator to tell you what your tax increase would be. Tax payers are horrified at what our state is trying to do!
