I agree with you, but there are at least three states following this proposal with discussion of implementation, and isn’t that the point of the Transportation head to bring it up...so that the Obamamites would implement it in their state?? But like I said before, it is double taxation, when we are already paying a gas tax, so a mileage tax is for the same thing—driving miles.

I think we all ready have a mileage tax, it’s called the gas tax.

In North Carolina, that's somewhere around 24 cents a gallon... since I get (nearly) 24 miles to a gallon, that's already a penny per mile.

Meanwhile, the business mileage reimbursements are 50.5 cents, so here we go again with whacky, knee-jerk reaction conflicting/confiscatory tax policies again. We'd better darn well start raising up some serious candidates to challenge these yahoos quick... November 2010 isn't really that far away.

...and if the outcry is great enough he shelves it until a later date...when more acceptable!

Agreed - testing the waters...it will be back in another form.

And there are three states actually considering doing this now as a state tax, so see how they float an idea and their stooges at state level pick it up.
And you are right, what doesn’t get picked up by the stooges will come back in another form. Disgusting!

As cars become more and more efficient, the feds lose more and more revenue from gasoline taxes. Once they can convince enough people to get into 50 mile per gallon death traps, then they will need to tax people on how many miles they drive in order to make sure all that revenue keeps coming in.

At some point Americans will either have to take up arms and force the Federal Government to relinquish their authority over the states and the people, or we will have to relinquish our own sovereignty over ourselves and become complete slaves to the central government authority.

This would be punishment for everyone. Average Joe and his family cant drive to the mall or drive to thier favorite amusement park anymore. Who gets punished? the workers at those places who get laid off because there is nobody there, the gas stations, tire shops, repair places because people are parking thier cars because they cant afford to drive them. And who gets hurt most of all, Joe Average because now he has to listen to his bratty kids whine about be stuck at home.

“your point alludes me”

the point is it’s disingenuous. it’s the usual misinformation & 3 card monty stuff we get with taxes.

the government & the media keep the people misinformed & deluded as to the real nature of the issues

Not true, the speed sensor for the emissions/timing is not dependent on the odometer/speedometer in most cars.

You’re ignoring absolutely everything I’ve said about the impossibility of building the infrastructure to support this ludicrous dream.

Once again: the supporting infrastructure cannot be built.

And no supporting infrastructure = no GPS/mileage tax.

How much simpler does it need to be stated to you?

The GPS system to track your mileage could just as easily track you. Not even Orwell could have imagined a system that keeps track of every citizen’s movements. It is none of the government’s business where I go.

You are hitting on something important here, because some see the stimulus and some of these concepts as intentional moves to destroy America. Tourism would definately be affected, because this would add to the cost of travel.

People intelligent enough to get a degree know this, so why all the “defeating ideas” that will only bring disaster?

AARP is a democratic org that supports the dem campaigns, and is a big RETIREE org. A large percentage of those Retirees own RV’s and travel...so they get hit hard to support the dems and now get screwed financially by them.

There is talk of another stimulus....now all of this debt for the US tells me that ‘FINANCIAL DEBT’ is one way of keeping America out of any future wars....how will we defend ourselves? We won’t be able to defend Israel either, and isn’t the destruction of Israel the whole point for muslims???

I put a link on FR about the FDR errors of stimulus pkgs, so if Obama went to Harvard he would know that. The UCLA Economists did a study published in 2004 and the article stated “we found that a relapse isn’t likely unless lawmakers gum up a recovery with ill conceived stimulus policies.”

Now my question is are they trying to gum up former efforts, and that is why they keep crying they “inherited” this mess” or are they just stupid??

They know what they are doing. They have been planning it for 8 years and began implementing it in September.

They are not stupid, they are arrogant> which in this case is worse.
At least if they were stupid, maybe somebody could teach them about their mistakes, but arrongance is unfixable.

I don't know? Could you be a little more condescending? Global warming is a fraud, but we are paying for it every day. Politics has nothing to do with whether something is technologically feasible, only whether it accomplishes a political goal. So, I defer to your vastly superior technological aptitude. But your political aptitude needs work.

>>>>>> Do you agree that it’s possible to talk about the last days in a serious conversation? <<<<<<<

No I do not. But not for the reasons you may think. Rather I say that because almost every “last days” assertion I’ve ever heard or read here on FR (or elsewhere) fails to account for the numerous (limitless) other occasions in our present and past that entirely refute any “last days” assertion. For example, let’s talk about the Millerites.

>>>>>> Do you agree that it’s possible to use relevant quotes from all sources, including biblical sources, to make points about serious situations? <<<<<<

No I do not believe the Bible predicts events in such a manner as to be “decoded” by certain self-anointed insiders and “believers”. Event the Bible itself says that people should not and cannot do that, nor should such people be believed.

>>>>>> For example, if I were to say, “That’s Armageddon-level behavior.” does that mean that I’m necessarily predicting that some event is “the” Armageddon? <<<<<<

I don’t know what you mean by “Armageddon-level behavior” and I’d ask you what you meant by saying it.
