What if the mileage tax passed and the taxes were collected...here is breakdown:

Well I heard one state was proposing 1 cent pr .25 mile, which would work out to 4 cents per mile, and for 10,000 miles that would be $400.00 per year.

Now this is a punishment of conservatives, because if you look at the voting map the RED STATES are more rural, and the BLUE STATES are more larger cities and closer together. That means the Conservative States will pay more mileage taxes, since people like Biden who ride the train and use more public transportation will pay none. Inner city people on welfare and subsidized housing rents will pay none.

Now add that to the irresponsible people who will get their mortgages reduced as well as payments/interest, it looks like the conservatives will be paying the bills for the others, and that people is REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH.

I don't see the story on the link.

Anyway, is this proposal to replace the gas/diesel tax? Or in addition to the gas/diesel tax?

I know, I know ... its a rhetorical question and the later question is the answer, but I just wanted to make sure.

So what happens if I disconnect my speedometer cable say 11 months a year? I bet it would be a new felony offense.

We are all ready paying by the mile the more you drive the more gas you use the more tax you pay.

The dems and the wackos just want to have more control and raise more money.

It’s a new tax in addition to the taxes we already pay, and by doing per mileage it punishes those who have to drive farther to work, as Voting Map shows that would be those rural RED STATES WHO VOTE CONSERVATIVE....ex: Texas, Wyoming, SC, GA, TN etc. While most BLUE STATE ARE DEM with large public transportation....so you see how that works.
That “tea party” of Santelli’s may be the beginning of the Revolution.
We will now have loads of taxation but no decent representation.

Here’s my guess. They’ll tell us it will be in place of the gas tax, and the price of gas will come down to show us the tax has been removed. Then a couple months down the road they’ll tell us the mileage tax isn’t generating as much money as they thought it would and reimpose the gas tax without removing the mileage tax.

Will the toll roads then be free of tolls? No matter how they try to do it someone will come up with a way to go around it.

It is perhaps not so much punishment of conservatives as it is the normal process of consolidating communist power. Restricting the physical movement of the population is imperative. Mobility makes for more efficient opposition, and there is a lot of opposition to BHO in the heartland.

“Phony SOB’s”...you got it.

Just think about Obama’s visit to Elkhart, Indiana and Ft Myers, FL to tell them how much he cared about their high unemployment rates and how he was gonna help them. THE RV MFG INDUSTRY IS BASED OUT OF ELKHART INDIANA, and the reason their unemployment is so high is gas prices at over $4 pr gallon ruined them, and the RV Industry is barely getting by.

NOW ADD THE MILEAGE TAX on RVers and it’s another blow, so yes the dems are PHONY SOBs and all those AARP democrats who voted for Obama & DEMS, and travel in their RV’s are going to be the FIRST to get screwed with the MILEAGE TAX, so go figure! CHU, O’s Energy Dept leader wants $4 pr gal gas, so look out people, it’s just beginning.

Exactly. 120-130 miles between 'major' towns, no bus service except along I-94, Amtracke east and west along the Grand Forks to Williston corridor, and air travel, otherwise you drive. That is North Dakota, and just one State. But I'd bet the taxicab people in the Northeast are going to find that mileage tax factored into their fares.

Next question, what are they going to charge trucks? Nothing? Same per mile? (If so, everything, and I mean everything is going up in price.)

I would be GPS based...odometers to easy to tamper with.
Of course it is possible to ‘spoof’ a GPS device ;-)

They want to track it via a GPS. Disconnecting the odometer cable won’t help you. I find myself far more prone to cuss these days. I’m resisting the urge to cuss now, cast aspersions on their ancestry, and otherwise suggest how these b@st@rds <===oops, slipped through, should be dealt with.

And the “greenies” thought they’d save money buying hybrids!

Their lower gas consumption means the ‘gubmint’ isn’t getting enough tax revenue now!

Suckers!!
