It means that our country will be as different after the coming upheaval from what it is now as it was before and after the upheavals of 1776, 1860, and 1943.

I realized, reading this thread, that I can label how I felt the day Obama was elected, and I am not joking: We have entered Idiocracy, and all that that implies.

It’s truly amazing how things today in the media were basically foretold in this movie from the 1970’s.

I at first thought he meant civil wars and such. That will come. Obama is not the worst of what I fear if he and Congress dont shape up.

“We are in the midst of a phase of history in which nations will be redefined and their futures fundamentally altered.” And what the hell does THAT mean?

I think he's referring to the sorts of changes that characterized the Revolutions of 1848 in Europe. The shape of Europe was fundamentally changed. Germany, for example, was unified ... one consequence of which was the events leading up to World War I, WWII, and eventually the current geopolitical picture.

The collapse of national economies in this globalized economy would have similarly profound effects -- what happens to China, for example? What about the US?

Name one era in history when healthy societies weren't being “redefined” and their futures “fundamentally altered”

As I noted earlier, look at the example of Europe in 1848. The revolutions of that year fundamentally redefined the power structure of Europe, and eventually led to two world wars, a cold war, and finally the situation we see today.

Neither. He is extrapolating his observations. The result.....change, geopolitical change

I agree with most of what you said with the exception to,”At that point, all we have to do is walk in and start anew”

We need to insist that the GOP put true conservatives in the race. No more moderates, no more rino’s.

Enough is enough. Unless we get back to the core of conservatism, we stand little chance of gaining back millions of true conservative voters.

Stop with that. No one knows. As Christ said that it will come like a thief in the night.

Think the Jehovah’s Witnesses are about 0 for 3 on their end time predictions.

Since the late 16th century here. Actually, might have had some try and come over as part of the lost colony of Roanoke. On my father's side, his father, two uncles, and his mother all served in WW I, he, WW II & Korea. So I consider this country to be part of my DNA. And it makes me sick to see what's happening.

But I wouldn't say the Dream is dead, at least not yet. It's damn hard to kill a dream.

Exactly...what brought it about was Chernin’s departure, a rather substantial development in the life of the company. Mr. Murdoch sent it out paired with Chernin’s memo to the employees. Next thing you know it ends up on Drudge replete with the apocalyptic headline treatment.

As a newspaperman, he should be reporting the news. As a newspaper mogul, a very rich man, and someone with decided political opinions, he is in a position to make news, or at least influence events a good deal more than most people.

1943??

Actually the whole period from about 1930 to 1945. I can't think of any single event (year) in the Depression or WWII that represents the principle turning point so my choice of 1943 was kind of arbitrary.
