I agree, Wolf. And that is just one more arrow in Liberty's quiver.

Thanks, rdb3. If only there was a Perot-like figure around now who could lead such a taxpayer revolt. That's what it would take to organize such a movement -- not someone nuts like Perot, but someone who could command that kind of media attention, and who could finance the organization.

“You fail to get my point. A resolution (these or any others) has no force of law. There is nothing for the people to get behind. They are meaningless gestures.”

You are having trouble following the bouncing ball Wolf. Read my original answer again... First, get behind making the state resolution state law, then get behind enforcement...

Eliminating the 16th would solve the rest....

Excellent article from JB Williams. There were an abundance of quotables from his piece, but the below was ONE of my favorites:

“Without the promise of free access to other people’s stuff, Democrats would not win a single national election.”

Now that’s what I call DoBA!

Yes, this is the sentiment I was trying to invoke, or something close. States’ rights are great, but it is the individual that is really sovereign!

Does anyone know why “the magic number is 34”?

Two-thirds of the states? Constitutional amendments?

Just emailed JB the following:

JB,

Three fourths of the State Legislatures or by three fourths of Conventions thereof are needed to ratify amendments. My math says 38 states are necessary to ratify, not 39.

We need to organize 38 Red States, and to establish an iron grip on counties and local jurisdictions to hold power over Marxists in not just DC but also what the One with shielded past calls the archipelago of urban islands. For example here in Washington State there is one liberal county that controls the State, King County and it is corrupt to its core.

We need to repeal the 16th Amendment as the top priority and replace our tax code with one that is an improved version over what the Founders envisioned. That replacement is found in an inspired piece of legislation under H.R. 25 and its fast growing grass roots organization can be found here:

http://www.fairtax.org

Please feel free to email me with questions or comments on the above legislation and link. I have seen all the vacuous counter arguments and bashings. I know the system and its history extensively and communicate with the architects of the legislation.

I also have a doctorate in statistics which comes in handy for buffetting through noisy and useless opposition flack.
**********************************************************
Folks, I independently posted just last week about the States using Article 5 to climb into the driver’s seat, but had no response from Freepers.

It is critical that we understand that States should not only reassert their 9th and 10th Amendment rights ***and powers*** but also use their power to repeal the 16th Amendment which IS THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM THAT CREATES SO MANY SOCIALIST BRANCHES THAT CONSERVATIVES HACK AWAY AT.

And to be prepared to enact an inspired system of taxation that will revive American enterprise, manufacturing and prosperity; H.R. 25 and http://www.fairtax.org

Two Thirds (34) of State Legislatures can call the Constitutional Convention for proposing amendments. (Article 5). But three fourths are needed to ratify (38 states).

Thank God for the conservative Canadian and conservative British press! They are doing great work in covering what our pathetic “drive-by” media will not cover.

Some say 33, others 34, but it takes 2/3 of the states to over-ride congress and call for a convention.

I’m wondering that myself.

I just think these resolutions are pointless.

That's just the kind of attitude the leftists have been using to gain control of the whole country for the past eighty or so years. They could not do it without you.

Before people can accomplish anything, they must first "resolve" to do so.

The left "resolved" long, long ago to take over the world, and they have been doing so since long, long ago. If we want to take our part of the world back from the leftists, we must first "resolve" to do so, and then follow up those "resolutions" with concerted efforts toward those ends.

It's this simple: Pick a side. Then lead, follow, or get out of the way. Positive contribution is helpful. Negative contribution is helpful to the other side.

I agree, and have been a leading -- often the only -- advocate for repeal of the 17th on FR for years. However, I am much more of a pragmatist than most who post here. The 17th will never be repealed.

Here's a real big clue for you. It is insane to "advocate" for something that "will never" occur. What a waste of a lifetime.

Pick something you can visualize happening to "advocate", then start with that one. That is what a "pragmatist" would do.

When you are ready to visualize a free republic, then you might be ready to assert your support of ideas like liberty, sovereignty, and such.

If we want to take our part of the world back from the leftists, we must first "resolve" to do so, and then follow up those "resolutions" with concerted efforts toward those ends.

I was referring to the legal impact of legislative actions called "resolutions." You are talking about the human emotion called "resolve." Resolve can lead to decisions and actions. So in that context, you are correct. However, your insulting, condescending, even arrogant manner of engaging with me is a hallmark of everything that's wrong with the conservative movement today.

You are not correct as regards legislative resolutions. Thousands of them are passed at every level of government in this country annually, and virtually all of them are forgotten the instant the final vote is cast. Case in point: Many Leftist-dominated city, county and state legislative bodies passed "get out of Iraq now" resolutions during GWB's presidency, but we're still in Iraq.

If the state legislatures currently passing states-rights resolutions are serious, they would take substantive action to restore the correct relationship between the states and the federal government. The fact is that they are not serious, so they settle for meaningless resolutions. Despite what politicians do for show and public relations purposes, no state is going to get off the federal tit anytime in the foreseeable future.
