LOS ANGELES It's cute, it's furry and some conservationists say it may soon be extinct because of global warming. But should the American pika be placed on the endangered species list?
Yes it should, says Shaye Wolf, a biologist with the nonprofit Center for Biological Diversity. The center has sued the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife to grant endangered species status to the pika, a runty relative of the rabbit that lives in the rocky areas of the Northwest.
The rodent-sized creature has thick fur and is unable to survive in temperatures much warmer than 80 degrees.
"The things that we need to do to protect the pika will also protect the air we breathe, the water we drink, our own quality of life and improve our economy," Wolf sats.

Just what we need, ANOTHER protected rat.
I think I poisoned and shot a few of those last week. My bad.
Well it IS cute.
Are those the things that like to eat engine wiring harnesses on vehicles parked at a trail head for a few days?
Same thing I thought...that’s vermin...another rodent a rat the wackos want to protect
“The rodent-sized creature has thick fur and is unable to survive in temperatures much warmer than 80 degrees.”
Then put the damn things in a zoo and breed them there. I have nothing against the little critters, but why should people suffer because these animals aren’t capable of surviving in their own natural environment?
It’s a rat with a good PR agent
We gotta get ‘em all!
You can’t protect what don’t exist.
I’m working on it. The little vermin carry Hanta virus and you do NOT want to catch that!
That pretty much guarantees it will never be extinct.
I have a question for Shaye Wolf, wasn’t it like really much warmer in the past, and colder at times as well, like within the last 10000 years or so. And Polar bears and pika rats existed back then, and they are still here today? because they adapted or something. Tell us the truth Shaye, you need funding, because I find it far more belivable that you either need funding or desire attention, far more than I belive a few degrees higher on the temp scale is gonna make some animal go extinct, and the amount of so called man made C02 is nothing compared to the natural C02 / 02 excange process. AND C02 is no where near as much a greenhouse gas as water vapor.
I could go on, but I think someone is crying Wolf.
Call me the non retarded non scientist.
The rodent-sized creature has thick fur and is unable to survive in temperatures much warmer than 80 degrees.
Send out the conservationists with little tiny remington shavers...
Or do a mass Nair spraying.
Didn’t Darwin say these useless creatures should die off??
(the conservationist I mean - not the other rodent)
My cat has thick fur too and he does just fine in 103 degree Georgia heat - especially if he just caught a pika.
Well maybe the useless idiots. However, their leaders want to destroy our nation and this is another bullet in our guts.
