The Obama Steamroller: Is Resistance Futile?
American Thinker ^ | 2/27/09 | Richard Baehr

Posted on 02/27/2009 9:30:47 AM PST by alex

The political reality at the moment is that regardless of the wisdom or foolishness of what is or will be proposed by the Obama administration or Congress in the next two years, it will pass. This is the consequence for the GOP of losing elections and losing them big in both 2006 and 2008....

Obama can pass any bill in the next 2 years (I am afraid it may be next 40+ years) because US did not stop nation building in Iraq and Afganistan in early 2005.

Can a conservative be stupid enough not to understand this trivial matter?

The problem may be demographic and irreversible. If that’s the case than we really need to figure a way to take our marbles and go home. No marriage this bad would last fifteen seconds and everybody knows it.

There are a lot of things that contributed to this. ‘Nation building’ might be one if you want to call it that. Certainly a prolonged Iraq War contributed to 2006, and to 2008 to a lesser extent. The economic crisis probably is pretty high on the list since neither Bush, McCain or anyone else seemed to want to defend the economic record of the six years of growth before that, and refused to refute the argument that deregulation and tax cuts caused it. The GOP tried to go populist and point fingers at Wall Street instead of pointing towards the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue.

The political Left in this country must be destroyed, figuratively and literally, (exiling them to the South Pole during the middle of July comes to mind). No need to split the country in two.

The two ideologies are like oil and water, they don’t mix. One must destroy the other and soon.

Obama must be exposed before anything will matter. And by “exposed” I mean that his supporters must be DIRECTLY AND NEGATIVELY IMPACTED by his policies before it will matter. Also, they must believe it is his policies causing it.

I suspect they won’t believe it until it doesn’t matter - when those with guns and lots of stored food will be the ones on top.

It’s not the conservatives who are stupid, it’s the liberals and the moderates who want to get along with them who are the GOP. No true conservative could stomach anything the messiah is doing. Maybe by 2010 enough people will be horrified and/or pissed off to the max by what the 0 is doing to hit the reset button on the republican party.

RE :”because US did not stop nation building in Iraq and Afganistan in early 2005.

You will get hate pings on this statement as I do. What you say is exactly true, at least for Iraq. Iraq caused multiple political problems that all came together in 2006 focusing on Bush and republicans. Hannity-bots see the surge as a great victory but it was a major loss because of the political effects at home. The war took way too long and cost way more than the expectations that GWB created to sell it in 2003. Hannity-bots simply deny that GWB ever set expections high initially. The fact that GWB ran it off budget, not funded by tax increases or spending cuts, allowed him to be re-elected in 2004 but doom party in 2006+2008. He had to increase all types of deficit spending because of Iraq, politically. Bush taught country that government is free with Iraq.

The democrat government needs a certain number of tax slaves to stay in power. Without the slaves, the democrats would have no funds for free life time support in exchange for votes.

Tea parties we don't need. What we need are classes that teach people how to avoid paying taxes of any kind. There are numerous ways to buy less and avoid consumer taxes. There are ways to limit property taxes. Gas taxes can also be limited by planning ahead when leaving the home. People need to be more tax conscious, and there needs to be a campaign to bring peoples attention to how much the government is really taking out of their wages each year. ALL the taxes, not just the ones they ignore on their pay stubs.
I think if people were encouraged to actually pay attention to the money being stolen from them, things would change.

Question: "The Obama Steamroller: Is Resistance Futile?"

Response: No.

Comment: Resistance will escalate. Third Worlders lack judgment and they shall rapidly move to oppression; i.e. the taking of firearms, mandatory "community service," confiscatory taxation, additional racial preferences, increased lawsuits with large jury awards against any person, firm or entity attempting to resist a Third Worlder's will. Fight or slavery.

Exactly. The Republicans depend on us voting AGAINST the other guy. That way, they can act just like democrats and still survive.

When we sacrifice our values in order to nominate someone who is a leftist in order to beat a leftist (i.e. McCain and to a lesser extent Bush) then this is what we get...The American people dont understand what a Republican stands for because a Republican doesnt understand what a Republican stands for.

Conservatives should stand for the constitution, limited federal govt. and freedom. When the left defines what the right stands for we lose.

It’s not just who has the majorities in Congress. We have some long-festering fatal flaws in our system of government that have allowed us to arrive at what is essentially an authoritarian regime. It’s not completely Obama’s doing, either; he’s just taking advantage of what has already been provided for him. What led to these fatal flaws? Decades-long increases in federal government size and power. A disregard for any kind of constitutional principal. A lazy, head-in-the-sand citizenry that likes all of the nice things government does for it, without thought of how it’s all going to be paid for and who is going to do it. A lazy, head-in-the-sand electorate that can’t be bothered with keeping an eye on what its so-called representatives have been doing, much less pay attention long enough to make intelligent choices at election time.

Whatever “resistance” conservatives have offered in the past has been lacking. It isn’t enough to hold our ground. We have to push this monster back. That’s going to take a lot of work, and it’s going to depend on people seeing and understanding the problem and making elected officials accountable for their actions. Probably a task on the order of Hercules cleaning the Augean stables. I’m not personally concerned about what is going to happen 40 years from now because I am not likely to be here. But I would like, in my own lifetime, not to have to finally bid farewell to the America that once was. I would like to do what I can to make sure that my children and grandchildren have a decent, authentic—and FREE—America to live in. This is our country, damn it — NOT the country of the rotten gangs in Washington (and some state capitals, and some city halls) that are turning us from free (or maybe semi-free) citizens into serfs.

GWB had no argument against deficit pork entitlement handouts once he sold two wars, Iraq reconstruction, broad based tax cuts and rebates , and Homeland security at same time. How could he say ‘no’ to debt when the message was war=government was free? With all the Hannity rhetoric about democrats funding the troops, GWB never funded the troops himself, he just passed the costs along to others with debt and printed money . Funding the troops patriotically would have been him calling for tax increases and spending cuts to pay for the wars, Of course he would have lost in 2004 if he did that, but after that R party would have revived 2006 and 2008. Hannity bots song goes "You're a great American and Iraq was critical for our safety but dont ask ME to pay higher taxes for it"

RE :”Conservatives lost because there were no Conservatives to vote for

That was a serious problem but you really believe that's the ONLY problem? Ronald Reagan would have had trouble winning an election last year. The R party racked up many disasters and the Iraq invasion was one of the biggest (USA) political disasters that would not go away. GWB lost the political war at home on Iraq probably in 2003 before the invasion. His strategy on dropping polls was to buy love with borrowed money.

Calling freepers you disagree with ‘stupid’ as a rhetorical question is poor taste.

THANK YOU!

And selling a war by raising those type of reasonable expectations in the public (as I was sold on it myself) is a political disaster, when combined with WMDs. Bush never dug himself out of that one even after successful surge, but he was re-elected so the voters had to look to other republicans to hurt on election days.

I am not saying that the financial crisis bailout didnt hurt real bad, it did. But Iraq, high gas prices, the crash, the debt are all tied together in many voters minds.

Problem is everywhere I look I see and hear people wanting to protest but are afraid to break a law.

Especially here at FR.

A truly honorable protest WILL be breaking the law, a peaceful “kumbaya” series of protests won’t make the MSM blink.

It takes protests and initiatives that will demonstrate the will to deny key parts of the government from achieving certain goals.
