Is Obama responsible for Wall Street's meltdown?
Salon ^ | 3/5/09 | ('LIl) Bob Reich

March 5, 2009 | Is Obama responsible for the meltdown of the Dow? The consistently wrongheaded Wall Street Journal's editorial page says so, as does Republican Fox News, CNN's reliably demagogic Lou Dobbs, and now CNBC (where, full disclosure, I frequently appear as a token liberal). CNBC's Jim Cramer, who bloviates nightly about stock picks, says Obama is pushing a "radical agenda" that's destroying investors' wealth. My friend Larry Kudlow, who rants nightly about nearly everything, says Obama is destroying capitalism. CNBC reporter Rick Santelli's ballistic nonsense about Obama's mortgage plan made him a pop-populist icon for a week or so.

Obama is responsible for nothing?...

"See, it's you capitalists that are destroying everything. We socialists only build. And we never incite. And we never lie. And we never cheat on our taxes...."

I don’t think this administration in into that old “The Buck Stops Here” thing. “We’re Communists! It can’t be OUR fault!”

Obama inherited nothing. He WAS part of Congress while all this was building up. He voted for all the spending that lead to the deficit. Now he likes to pretend he inherited 1 trillion deficit and all the problems from Bush

So Reich discredits everyone who blames Obama for the meltdown because they are from this or that angle (both left and right—Cramer’s left-oriented on most issues). So why doesn’t Reich announce himself as “former Clintoon left-wing apologist”?

This is encouraging. Look at his list and it’s growing. Cramer was on the Today Show. This is hitting the MSM and getting legs.

Very encouraging.

0bama’s DNR order on the economy will cause more people to rely on gubmint. This has been his plan all along. If someone could hack into his teleprompter this could fixed this without him even knowing.

Robert Reich is afraid of whitey uprising...

He should be scared of whitey getting pissed. When that sleeping American giant is up and angry, entire nations and cultures disappear in blood and fire.

Ask the Germans, Italians, Japanese, and Amerindians.

You hit the nail on the head. obozo then adds a trillion or two to the budget deficit like rahmbo indicated earlier that it’s built up spending that never got authorization until obozo was elected.

Yeah it was Obama who forced Investment Banks to leverage 30 times of their balance and not regulate Derivatives.

Get a grip. This has been building for a while. R's and D's have been running the country into the ground.

Obama sucks, but he's not the total blame.

Make no mistake: Angry right-wing populism lurks just below the surface of the terrible American economy, ready to be launched not only at Obama but also at liberals, intellectuals, gays, blacks, Jews, the mainstream media, coastal elites, crypto socialists, and any other potential target of paranoid opportunity.

uh... Bobby... You're damn right about some on this list - the rest is just YOUR paranoia.

Obama is responsible for nothing?...

No, he's responsible whenever the market goes up. Remember a few days ago when he encouraged people to buy stocks and the market went up something like 40 points? The MSM swooned.

Just so you understand the rules, market goes down, Bush's fault, market goes up, Obama's success. Never mind the Dow was at 9,000 when The Messiah took over and before he announced all those wonderful programs . . . .

Obama and company have made it clear that their intent is to destroy the private economy in order to make everyone totally dependent on the government. Why would any sane person not get their money out?

The stock maket started into overdrive — going down — in early August 2008, shortly before Obama’s official nomination on 25 August.

In other words, Obama is the probaBle cause of what soon will be called a depression.

Zero wasn’t elected to worsen the economic slide. He was supposed to stop the slide. Bush even left him half the TARP funds to use. Can’t play the Bush card. Wall Street is voting on Zero’s moves.

Baby boomers were hoping to retire soon now they are screwed big time. All this down turn has lots of people scared and very upset. Look out Mr REICH.

Same goes for Congress.

I would like to see a 'Year Without Incumbents' movement for the 2010 election. Rs and Ds should defeat incumbents at the primary level, then hold the general election as usual. That would open a few eyes in D.C.
